The "Bone-petite" is the chef's kiss of stupidity.

[-] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 65 points 4 days ago

Racists like that aren't exactly burdened by an over abundance of book learning

[-] SARGE@startrek.website 7 points 4 days ago

Malcolm Reynolds, is that you?

I aim to misbehave

[-] runner_g 21 points 4 days ago

Does Lemmy have a bone-apple-tea community yet?

[-] Battle_Masker 19 points 4 days ago
[-] tgirlschierke 6 points 4 days ago

this is how i realised bone apple tea meant bon appetit. am i stupid

[-] birdwing 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Doesn't even work, it should be "bonn appetit".

(appe said exactly as in "apple", minus the L).

[-] hddsx@lemmy.ca 21 points 4 days ago

You sure there are two n’s on that Bonn?

[-] seejur@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

Who doesn't eat a German city for breakfast these days?

[-] fylkenny@feddit.org 8 points 4 days ago

[-] sem 2 points 3 days ago

Du ist sounds like du est

[-] hddsx@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago

I prefer full English myself, so that means at least one northern city and London.

🦴🍎🍵

[-] jackr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 105 points 4 days ago

AFAIK these religions(so Islam and Judaism in this case) don't usually care about what non-believers eat, only believers are not allowed to eat pigs. So posting that does not even qualify as ragebait.

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 38 points 4 days ago

As a Jew, I care what you eat. Cuz I'm gonna wanna go splitsies. What else should we get?

[-] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 14 points 4 days ago

we're a food oriented people. we don't ask you to eat like us, but we want to know what you eat so we can know who you are, how you grew up, what you love, and what you think of your grandmother. not from a place of judgement but from a sense of doikyat

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

I've never heard that word before, but now I love it.

Also, I loved my Yiddish-speaking grandmother, but she was an awful cook and would stick her fingers in everyone's food, so I don't love food stories with her. Plus, she didn't like it when I'd eat bacon, but she "secretly" loved the stuff and would often steal some from me.

[-] jackr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 4 days ago

That is fair, but I don't think you'd want to eat with this prick in particular.

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

You're right! I love me some bacon, but hate me some assholes. May the bacon he loves live forever in his heart. And arteries.

[-] anton 5 points 4 days ago

I'm making wraps with lentils, anyone interested?

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

We doing vegan for this meal? I never need an excuse to steam up some idli, and that aught to complement the wraps.

yeah but here's the thing: the right doesn't merely take joy in other people's anger and suffering, it takes joy in the idea of it. That's why Right wing "Comedy" is just "x minority are stupid and bad" and why their audiences lap them up. They're not laughing at the worlds, they're laughing at the idea of people they hate being upset or suffering.

They think that upsets people, and that's where they derive humour from.

[-] JandroDelSol@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

yeah, and most of those rules came about because pork was likely to contain parasites and was overall more dangerous. people interpreted getting sick because of unsafe food as being punished by god

[-] echindod@programming.dev 4 points 4 days ago

No. It's cause its a food for poor people.

Sort of. It's a bit more complicated than that. But religious food prohibitions are never rational. Most religious taboos are formed first and theological justification comes second.

[-] Saint_La_Croix_Crosse@midwest.social 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Eh, that is one explanation, but pigs are only slightly worse than other domestic animals, which also have parasites and whose meat would spoil. The other and I think more likely explanation is formalizing differences between themselves from other ethnic groups in the region and making that division explicit. The early precursors to Israelites and Judeans were inland in the hills and shepherds, and were defining themselves against the more urban and coastal Philistines and other Phoenecian peoples. Pigs are preferred by more dense populations since they can be kept in a pen and don't have to move around to graze, and the coastal element is why there is also prohibitions against shellfish.

i can't believe they thought we'd hate a hot guy who talks about class inequality.

[-] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 17 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

THANK YOU because I have bitches try to tell me that he isn't hot! Zohran is hot, and his wife literally looks like the subject of a Mediterranean fresco! They are such an attractive couple

[-] Gork@sopuli.xyz 39 points 4 days ago

Not surprising this is a take by an actual Klanner.

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 27 points 4 days ago

remember when it was scary and unpopular to be a nazi?

haha haha

yeah…

[-] Gork@sopuli.xyz 11 points 4 days ago

This means we need another Wolfenstein game soon as it triggers them to get all butthurt that people can kill Nazis in video games.

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 5 points 4 days ago

this might be fake news but i read somewhere that consuming media that portrays violence against oppression actually encourages complacency as the desire for justice is quelled by consuming the media? idk how i would find that if it’s a real study tho

[-] lvxferre@mander.xyz 31 points 4 days ago

Relevant to note you can apply the same curing and smoking process to pretty much any other meat, not just pork. (I actually prepared beef bacon at home once. It tastes different but equally delicious.)

[-] TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

Duck bacon is also quite good!

[-] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 days ago

fowl bacon is underrated. goose bacon in particular is special

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 26 points 4 days ago

reported for misinformation

[-] RedSeries 16 points 4 days ago

woah hey now the bacon is just there my guy, it didn't do anything wrong

[-] Cevilia 10 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

That's barely even bacon where I'm from. Get yourself some back bacon, preferably Danish, lean, and oak smoked. Now that's some food worth going to hell for.

[-] latenightnoir 10 points 4 days ago

To be perfectly frank, as a casual bacon enjoyer, my arteries ache just looking at that photo.

[-] dmention7@midwest.social 10 points 4 days ago

As a fellow bacon enjoyer, I've rarely seen photos of bacon that make it look unappealing, but that one does the trick somehow. I suspect I'm more offended by that photo than the average Muslim.

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 3 points 4 days ago

mine too… aching for MORE 😋 🤤

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
