(And I use "Free" loosely because I do pay for Prime Video, so it went from paid to much more expensive)

Adding to the rant

Like many countries, France has an near infinite number of charging stations, all of which require a different card and paid membership.

All of those companies used state funds to build their infrastructure.

Every waking day of every waking use of the devices I have, I find myself constantly fighting a lot with the shitty input and recognition of said input. Things I swore I clicked once but having to click twice or sometimes three times. Such lag input between the last time I clicked and to the time the function of whatever I had to click fucking functioned.

With phones it is obviously worse, with finger input being either too sensitive or too dulled to register, inquiring more touches just to get somewhere or to type something, along with the separated frustrations aside trying to type on awful keyboard interfaces.

Edit:

For clarification's sakes, people are bringing up old computers and how you've had to go extra steps to make it work. That's not what I'm talking about and I thought I had made it clear as possible.

I'm talking about with the way things have been with technology over the past 15 years. You would think with all of the millions and billions that get invested into making things snazzy, crisp and shiny, that they would function similarly. Except, no, things got lots of wrenches thrown into their design phases to make them laggy, drag and otherwise shitty.

Phones, Tablets, Site Interfaces .etc

Looks like I'm spoiled for choice. Temu has exactly the same for 11.29. Not that I'd be purchasing from either place; it's just another example of Amazon's enshittification.

I read a news story about a guy who died from rabies after receiving a kidney transplant. Although nobody was aware when he died, the donor of the kidney had contracted rabies after being scratched by a skunk several weeks before he died and his organs were harvested.

I got curious about how the donor got scratched by the skunk, but instead only found this article from August, which informed me that the U.S. has a rabies outbreak, and has more deaths from rabies in the last year than several previous years...

Not sure if people were already talking about this outbreak, and I just missed it? It's been a bit of a weird year, and there's been a lot of crazy shit to keep up with.

Anyway, this is also how I ended up reading the sentence informing me some people are worried dogs are getting autism from vaccines.

Outbreaks of rabies seem to be rising across the U.S., CDC surveillance shows

Can't wait for ads to be grotesquely injected into any video on big streaming sites. If you don't want reruns of Cheers to have distracting ads for Rings of Power you better spring for Prime Platinum. Even the heroes at uBlock Origin are going to have a hard time filtering out injected ads on some YouTuber's bedroom wall.

I was browsing for a game and came across this site, which immediately prompted me to select an option. If all you did was read the top part, you’d think “Platinum” would be the best choice. But no. It seems they’re deliberately trying to trick people into giving away the most information by making it seem “superior.”

I'm sure anyone reading that has used Android in the last year has some gripes about the media control "tool" too. You cannot get that thing to operate in any sensible way. Screw me for using a music player, an audiobook player, playing videos on Firefox, and a podcast app. I don't want every one of those to live there forever!!!!! The only way to get the various apps to disappear is a long press and clicking hide, only until you use the app again. The buttons fail to work all the time. Then it glitches out, gets stuck ⅔ of the way through a swipe and is completely unusable. Maybe I'm missing it but it's not able to be turned off - I don't even want it off but it shouldn't break every single day. I hope someone else is as sick of this part of the UI as I am.

Yes, I know that I should move to Graphene before someone tells me.

Context: the red pavement line means "no parking".

E: context:

  1. There are a stretch of no parking zone behind the frame that looks pretty much the same
  2. This is also the bike/motorcycle lane
  3. There are enough room in the parking slot, so extra room for maneuver is not necessary
  4. The parking slots are not free
  5. The parking slots are next to a intersection

E: imo, the parking slot shouldn't be there.

Went to enterprise and rented a car that had literally 4 leaking tires and they filled them all up to 55 psi before handing the car over. This photo was taken after the 30 minute drive home.

Called and took the car back in for service only to get the same car, same 55 psi on all wheels, and same major leak in the rears. Went to another enterprise location to get a normal car instead 2 days later. Really took me back to my first car, but it's a lot less fun when it's not even yours and the "fix" is just dangerous overpressure.

See box that looks like it's 3/4 ripped in half from stacking damage:

"Looks good to me, send it off."

Ended up ordering it from Phillips for cheaper on sale, turns out it's not too hard to avoid Amazon altogether and a bonus for the company's reputation being important to the ones picking/packaging the product. Hard to blame the Amazon worker though, they don't get paid enough to care.

The ad and the linked terms don't say anything about the deal being available only for new customers and accounts. It's the lack of transparency that really gets me.

Christiano Ronaldo elbowed an Irish player during Irelands win over Portugal, earning himself a red card and an automatic ban.

In an unprecedented move, FIFA lifted the ban allowing him to play.

So I recently got a Blue Brixx set and needed to download the manual as it is not included in the box... Now that requires an account, which is just stupid... At least I can supply absolut garbage information, which is a plus. However I wanted to delete the account directly after downloading what I needed... Now that requires you to fill out a contact form (like that is legal in the EU...) and now it tells me that the throw away email I could use before is not a valid email (likely because it has numbers in them)... WTF IS THIS GARBAGE

I used to comment frequently on a very niche hobby subreddit with fewer than 2 000 subscribers. After the Reddit API changes and the rise of AI-generated posts, I got sick of reddit and deleted my account.

Before deleting my account I made sure to obfuscate all my valuable contributions (for example as long term reviews of products and detailed analyses with pros and cons) so that if reddit somehow managed to restore them, they would be of no use. I thought this should have done the job, but it wasn't.

Today I decided to google my old reddit username. Found some comments because other users had mentioned/pinged me in their comments. I don't mind that. I couldn’t find any of my posts or comments on reddit and was happy.

As I scrolled through the Google search results, I stumbled upon a blog I had never heard of before. My Reddit username appeared in the search result preview which got my interest.

Could it be that another user that coincidentally chose the same username? I wanted to see what this other person had written.

I opened the blog post which discussed a product related to that niche hobby. Of course the post was infested with Amazon affiliate links everywhere. I continued scrolling to the comment section to see what "I" had written.

To my shock, it was the exact review I had posted on Reddit before editing and deleting my stuff.

The blog owner had copied my original reddit post and used my reddit username as the blog comment username. I felt upset because I hadn’t given anyone permission to reuse my posts elsewhere.

I don't want to name the blog, hobby and reddit username so that blog don't get more undeserved views.

This whole exchange (lemmy.world)

Please keep your racist comments to yourself, this is about these 2 people as individuals.

They're both just arguing semantics, but 1 refuses to elaborate at all and cries about bullying and antisemitism for the slightest pushback.

The other has a point, but on being called antisemitic he has to point out him being a proud Zionist.

If they didn't deserve each other, this would be actually infuriating.
