Fem-Shen Rule (piefed.cdn.blahaj.zone)

Alt TextPanel 1: Shen is sitting at his screen tablet, holding his tablet pen. He looks at you, smiling, and says "Wanna know one cool thing about being a comic artist?"

Panel 2: Shen is now standing upright, the tablet pen having become giant in his hand. How gestures outwards with his other hand and says "You can draw yourself however you want!"

Panel 3: Shen magically "ting"s his forehead with his tablet pen, changing himself into a Sol Badguy-esque buff dude with a belt and a ponytail. He says "For example, I can draw myself like THIS!"

Panel 4: Shen again magically "ting"s his forehead, changing himself into a girl with a sweatshirt-dress, gym shorts, and choker. He says "OR like THIS!"

Panel 5: Shen winks, does a peace sign, and sticks his tongue out, saying "Bet THIS makes you feel some funny new feelings about me, huh??"

Panel 6: Life now has to hold a raging and frothing-at-the-mouth Shen as he yells "Bet THIS would make it easier to get you to go to my PATREON!!!!" and points at you, trying to fight you. Life is saying "Calm down, man!!"

Or they're taking their first steps on becoming the f1nn5ter of webcomics. We'll see how it plays out in a few years.

[-] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Oh god

Just to be clear, are folk in general anti-f1nn5ter, as it seems he only transitioned to femme with HRT for the popularity? Or is the consensus that he's cool? I've been out of the YouTube loop for a while

[-] TotallynotJessica 11 points 13 hours ago

as it seems he only transitioned to femme with HRT for the popularity

This might be the consensus on certain corners of the internet, but it's absolute transphobic bullshit. He got so much less hate before she transitioned, as being "just a cishet femboy" was far less controversial than the truth. The real problem with F1NN5TER is all the ragebaiting on Twitter to promote their OnlyFans. She relies too much on bigots who secretly simp to ever back away from the toxicity that's the real source of these bigoted theories.

Thinking that someone would transition while living in the UK for "popularity" is kinda an unhinged take, she transitioned for similar reasons as other transfemmes.

The only real reason to dogpile on her is that now she has some very fucked takes about femboys.

Life looks surprised but it should know better

Sidenote: I like how manga author Nakatani Nio draws herself as a ~~pigeon~~^[1]^ bird.

^[1] Apparently, I can’t read…^

[-] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 7 points 16 hours ago

You son of a bitch, she says she's a Little Grebe right there 😂

[-] verdare@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 15 hours ago

Really should have read that closer. Fixed.

[-] brognak@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 14 hours ago

Added a silly layer to the silly joke 😂

I'll never say it on her account or more mainstream social network... But oh, the egg vibes of shen are off the charts. It's basically an open secret

That sheep and wolf comic ? It was so on-point that it had a role in breaking MY egg

[-] kopasu22@lemmy.ml 80 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

If Shen wants to come out as trans, that's great. But I think it's inappropriate to be making assumptions based only on vibes until then.

Trying to preempt someone's egg cracking is either misgendering or goading someone to out themselves before they're ready.

[-] TotallynotJessica 18 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

This is all generally true, but omfg does Shen not make it easy. At this point they're egg baiting rather than simply getting called an egg for unintentional behavior. I'd be kinda upset if they aren't trans after these last few posts.

[-] verdare@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

I forgot about the sheep/wolf comics! Just went back to re-read them, and deer^lol^ god… This shit seems scientifically formulated to crack eggs.

[-] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 11 points 1 day ago

Reminds me of when the Penny Arcade guys drew themselves with hair and chins for years and years.

[-] pmk@piefed.ca 6 points 23 hours ago

What does the "> o" eyes mean? I saw it in the OpenBSD logo recently on their website.

[-] verdare@piefed.blahaj.zone 17 points 23 hours ago

It’s just winking, isn’t it?

[-] pmk@piefed.ca 4 points 23 hours ago

Oh, ok. Thanks. I still don't really understand, is it supposed to be the ">" symbol or is the eye doing that literally?

[-] FishFace@piefed.social 7 points 20 hours ago

The symbol is used in emoticons like this: >_o to mimic the wrinkles that show up when you're scrunching your eye closed. Nerd artists use the same symbology in comics.

[-] pmk@piefed.ca 2 points 19 hours ago

I see. Would you say that the banner picture of this: https://www.openbsd.org/ is an example or is it just similar?

[-] Carrot@lemmy.today 1 points 13 hours ago

It's the same I think, in the picture you linked, the pufferfish looks strained, causing it to close one eye. At least, that's my interpretation

[-] FishFace@piefed.social 2 points 18 hours ago

Uhhh possibly? I think it's clearer with Shen because the open eye is just a circle like a letter "o". Here's an example of Hobbes squinting

you can see it's similar, and presumably not inspired by the symbols, so there's a precedent :)

[-] verdare@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Sort of both, I think? I’m guessing it started out as an emoticon, literally represented by a > character, but comic artists started mimicking the look of it.

Unresearched speculation on my part; Take it with a grain of salt.

[-] pmk@piefed.ca 6 points 23 hours ago

I will accept your speculation as absolute truth. The matter is decided in my mind.

[-] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 7 points 1 day ago

They’re not wrong.

Not gonna lie, still looking quite masculine (hairstyle perhaps?) Most trans women IRL end up passing better than this.

Edit: Nothing against people who aim for an androgynous or non-binary look or just want to crossdress, but if exploiting the supposed "femininity → Patreon popularity" correlation is the goal, he could have gone even further and still stay realistic. And of course, it's a good idea to remind people of the great transformation powers IRL transition offers.
Do I need to remind you that how this character looks is fictional? The comic is playing with hypotheticals, so I have no ethical concerns about criticizing the style (like you're allowed to say a movie costume does not represent a role as well as it could) even though I find it disgusting to look for "flaws" in an actual human's sincere representation of their identity.

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
