I frequently have all of my work completed, and I am unfortunately not allowed to work from home. This means I spend a lot of time sitting at my desk scrolling social media, because there’s nothing that needs done. I feel like I’m wasting my time, even more than work already wasted the best hours of the day. How do you fill that downtime with something that is personally valuable, but not disruptive or noticeable enough that you’d get in trouble?

I’ve hated myself for long enough, no more. If people hate me because I’m trans, that’s a reflection on them.

Oh, fuck off Ted Cruz, you’re not fooling anyone

I’ve recently become the owner of a home that was constructed in the mid 1950s (in the US). As such, not all the outlets are grounded, three-prong receptacles, since that wasn’t code-required at the time. It looks like a few have been added or upgraded over the years, but there are still many that are ungrounded. What is the best way to go about converting those receptacles to be grounded? Will that require a professional? It seems like probably the kind of electrical work that I am capable of doing myself, but I am also very much not an electrician.

Chapel perilous (en.wikipedia.org)

As used in psychology

"Chapel perilous" is also a term referring to a psychological state in which an individual is uncertain whether some course of events was affected by a supernatural force, or was a product of their own imagination. It was used by writer and philosopher Robert Anton Wilson in his 1977 book Cosmic Trigger. According to Wilson, being in this state leads the subject to become either paranoid or an agnostic;[5] in his opinion there is no third way.[5] The term "chapel perilous" was used by Antero Alli, in his 1986 book, Angel Tech: A Modern Shaman's Guide to Reality Selection which is based on Timothy Leary's eight-circuit model of consciousness. In Alli's book, chapel perilous is a rite of passage, when moving between the four lower circuits of consciousness to the higher circuits.

Yeah, I’m probably addicted to cannabis. That doesn’t particularly bother me, as it doesn’t negatively impact my life. I keep it to nights and weekends, and I don’t spend more on it than I can afford. I honestly have a much harder time quitting coffee than I do cannabis. If I go on vacation, I never have a problem leaving my weed at home, but I’ll be damned if I don’t have my caffeine. And that doesn’t seem to be a particularly harmful addiction either.

It’s funny, because they clearly have the idea in their head that Wikipedia is a single organization capable of an ideological bias. When if you take a single look at some talk pages, it would become clear very quickly that Wikipedia is built on people vociferously disagreeing and bringing sources to make the information presented ever more credible and unbiased.

I’m pretty over shaving constantly, but I don’t think I can afford to go somewhere to get laser or electrolysis done professionally right now. How effective are at-home options? Which models of devices are recommended, if any?

Cool. Elections are administered by the states though, and my state guarantees mail-in ballots in the constitution. Sooooo, good luck with that, I suppose?

It’s funny, but I feel like I strive to be kind because I’m aware of how the world really works. Like, I’ve been let down by reality and know the world can be a nightmare already, so why would I want to pile even more on someone and make their life harder, you know?

I mean, correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t Nature and its subject-specific varieties considered some of the most reputable and prestigious scientific publications?

[-] compostgoblin 161 points 4 months ago

Yes, but that would mean that logic has any bearing on what the Supreme Court decides to do

There is a dedicated ICD-10 medical code for “eye pecked out by a chicken”. They’re vicious little fuckers.
