Are you telling me this is fake????1??

[-] applebusch 70 points 1 week ago

somewhere before 4000cc. carrying that around on your chest looks like it would cause some serious damage to your body.

[-] birdwing 25 points 1 week ago

my arse at first read it as 4000bc

Damn, an ass with eyes.. Now i didnt expect that.

[-] Damage@feddit.it 15 points 1 week ago

Well, 4 litres of water weigh 4kg of course, I'm guessing silicon must be slightly heavier, so that's 8kg+ of weight on top your spine...

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 12 points 1 week ago

not much, it's not pure silicon but mostly saline caught in a silicone matrix.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4174160/ says density is between 1.03 - 1.07 g/ml, resulting in only 120-280 g more than pure water.

Only gripe with this study seems for me that these were measured at standard lab conditions @ 20°C, while they will be at body temperature while in use, maybe changing density. But the mass stays the same, so for our chat here that isn't that important.

The average dude on the Fediverse probably carries around twice as much weight in moobs.

Seriously though, I've made myself 4000cc breast forms and they weigh about 8 pounds each. Carrying them around is like carrying a weighted vest.

㎤: Correct
㎖: Correct
㏄: Get the fuck out of here. Standards in physics over industry conventions.

(Yes, I'm using the single-character, CJK-fullwidth forms for cm³, ml, cc to achieve vertical alignment)

[-] darvocet@infosec.pub 32 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

My god dude i don't know where it came from but i had a very strong urge to yell nerd and take your lunch money.

[-] quantumgenderino 18 points 1 week ago

Since this is the only other comment about their volume I'm putting this here. Every time I see this image posted, I have to point out there is 0 chance those are 4000 cm³. Those are like, 4x or 5x the size of a 4 L (1 gallon for you americans) milk jug, which actually are ~4000 ml.

That’s actually a good question. I assume that plastic surgeons take one of the modern versions of the Hippocratic Oath.

At what point do large breast implants constitute harm to the patient, and a violation of the oath?

[-] LurkingLuddite@piefed.social 23 points 1 week ago

If only doctors were actually punished for breaking it. Especially if you consider sexist/body shaming assholes that constantly tell fat women (and often even guys) their problems are because they're fat.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 week ago

A lot of problems are because of obesity though, it impacts everything :(

[-] LurkingLuddite@piefed.social 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

rofl good job being part of the problem... Actual asshole.

[-] becausechemistry@piefed.social 28 points 1 week ago

Ideal doc: “Look, your obesity is impacting your other health issues. Let’s treat them but dropping a few pounds would help too. Here are some resources to help you eat better and get some more exercise.”

Real doc: “You’re fat, that’s why you’re sick. Lose weight and you won’t be sick. No, I won’t prescribe anything.”

[-] gh0stcassette 17 points 1 week ago

Yeah, but there's a difference between someone who is severely overweight due to poor diet and lack of physical activity, and someone who just has a slower metabolism and leads a healthy lifestyle. Doctors often don't make that distinction, which leads to fatter people having consistently worse health outcomes, even when controlling for the increased health risks of being overweight.

In lots of cases, they'll just tell the patient to lose weight even if they aren't actually unhealthy in a weight-related way, which is useless if you happen to be fat and have literally any health problems besides being fat (to the extent that that is a health problem, which varies from individual to individual).

dehumanizing obese people for correlating issues isnt a good thing

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Agreed. I actually have a related story. I have a bunch of hormone issues so I used to be fat. I couldn't have a baby and went to the doctor, the lady was very rude and it was clear she found me repulsive. She dismissed me and told me to lose weight and I'll have a baby. She didn't explain why. I was so outraged that I avoided doctors for years and stopped trying to find out why I couldn't have a child. The thing is she was right, it was PCOS and I had a child when I lost the weight. If she hadn't been so rude and dismissive, if she had mentioned PCOS at all, I wouldn't have had my son in my late 30s, he was born with a more debilitating autism than me as a result. It's definitely important to tell patients the truth even if it's hard, but it's just as important to come at it from a place of compassion and not blame.

[-] gh0stcassette 13 points 1 week ago

The thing is she was right

Yeah, by accident. If she genuinely just assumed the problem was because you were fat and didn't actually investigate other potential problems, it was a lucky guess. You do not need to give her credit for that, she's still a shit doctor.

For those unaware (like me), PCOS = Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome.

And yeah, agree, a place of compassion helps a lot! I myself eventually also want a baby but the problem is that as far as I recall, there have been only one uterus transplant for people like me, but hundreds for other gals. Can't wait to get one once I'm ready to be a parent...

If someone with, say, a heart condition is overweight, explaining why that’s a problem isn’t sexist or body shaming. It’s a widely accepted medical fact. I’m against punishing doctors simply for telling people things they don’t want to hear.

[-] LurkingLuddite@piefed.social 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Nope. Totally wrong. Not only are your assumptions about how healthcare discussions go extremely wrong and presumptive, but fatness IS NOT as big of a health indicator as you think!!

Someones' fat content in their skin is NOT an indication of even cardiovascular health.

For an extreme example, see sumo wrestlers. They're fat, but many of them could kick the shit out of you or me without breaking a sweat.

[-] cadmiumsandbox 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

yea clearly thats what the commenter said /s

[-] Arkhive@piefed.blahaj.zone 22 points 1 week ago

Would someone not need like skin grafts or something to actually fit them? Like just the surface area seems really wild to cover with the existing skin of even a larger chest.

[-] LurkingLuddite@piefed.social 36 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They work up to it. Put in big ones, normalize, put in bigger ones... it takes a long time to get to something like what's pictured unless they're already stacked and drooping to their navel.

Source: I vaguely remember a documentary on that one lady that has implants seriously almost as big as the ones pictured.

[-] Evil_Incarnate@sopuli.xyz 16 points 1 week ago

As far as I know, skin stretches. It has a harder time shrinking though so once you get those 4l boobs, you'll never want to remove them.

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
