Whose money goes into socialism? Which government has ever shared said money with the general public. Y'all haven't watched hunger games and it shows.

Mice die in mouse traps because Capitalists have turned their natural environment into a prison where the abundance of food is locked up to control the workers. Mice are just collateral damage.

Men die in work traps because they do not understand why the cheese is NOT free.

[-] Quadhammer@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Well if the rats had abundant food we'd get "A plague tale"

[-] plyth@feddit.org 1 points 17 hours ago

Only if you move the corn around and thus spread the fleas.

[-] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 8 points 15 hours ago

Let's consider what's happening in Gaza with the hungry being shot. Let's then consider those in the US needing healthcare. Underying similarities and the opposite of socialism

[-] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 17 hours ago

Tell me more about this mouse economy.

[-] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 151 points 1 day ago

It's not free. It comes from our taxes. School lunch is free for the kid, and paid for by taxes.

And if you think that's a bad thing, then why does the military give free lunches to its soldiers?

[-] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 7 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

I feel like soldiers are a not great analogy here as they've literally signed over their lives and autonomy.

[-] dellish@lemmy.world 15 points 18 hours ago

Soldiers are a great analogy because the American military is one of the most socialist endeavours in the world. Everything they need is tax-payer funded. It's incredible really.

[-] Juice@midwest.social 1 points 2 hours ago

Socialism is anti imperialism. Just because something is socialized doesn't make it socialism. If the military was socialists it would have cut the head off the military and formed a workers militia. No wars for oil or opium, no military bases all over the world.

The military itself isn't run for profit, but profits flow from military imperialism, which opens the door for financial I action and mass extraction and forced austerity for less developed countries.

If anything the military proves that such mass socialization is possible, which makes capitalism obsolete. But the military is not an example of socialism, don't muddy the water with goofy opinions. Words have meanings, politics has consequences. Stop trying to have takes, fight for worker internationalism instead

[-] Taalnazi@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Fascists hate socialism for others, but greedily extract from others.

Actual socialism is equal for all.

[-] bus_factor@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

Whereas the children are just missing their autonomy without signing it over?

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 54 points 1 day ago

They get free clothes and free housing too.

[-] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago

My brother in law is an ex-marine, no college and now easily makes 4x what I do. Free network, free training, free career, low-interest loan on his house. I promise I'm not bitter... But if that's not socialism I don't know what is.

[-] CH3DD4R_G0BL1N@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 day ago

Believe it or not, there are a subset of us that understand this and want those things for the citizenry (we're now part of) too. Seeing taxes tangibly invested back into you is a wonderful thing.

[-] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

If anything, being in the military keeps driving me further to the left

[-] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Yeah I get it, he's a good dude and you sound like one too. The only real resentment I harbor is towards our government. Because the military seems to offer the only real path to a life like that if you don't have the means to get on that track yourself. Plus, it's such a perilous one, not for everyone. My bil was lucky enough to serve at an allied base during peacetime - he still ended up half-deaf from all the live-fire drills.

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

But if everyone got it no one would have a reason to join the military

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 4 points 12 hours ago

The most desperate wouldn’t join, but plenty still would.

The bigger question is; if we were a smarter more generous country, would we need such a big military?

[-] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 16 points 1 day ago

I know a handful of military folks who are now doing so much better in their lives. Came from a shitty background, and now work IT or management.

Unfortunately, I also know a lot of military folks who didn't make it. Some are in prison. Some suffer from issues in society. Many still work for the military/government because they have no other skills.

The most common bond: they tell their kids not to join the military.

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 7 points 19 hours ago

Somewhere, a cow is mooing at the metaphor

[-] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 183 points 1 day ago

I don't think mice understand the concept of something not being free tbh. It ain't like they go around with little mouse wallets filled with little mice money and little mice credit cards.

[-] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 88 points 1 day ago

Nothing is free to a mouse. Everything comes with risks. Deadly risks lurk around every corner. That’s why mice dart around so quickly and act so cautiously, like tiny thieves.

[-] Kellenved@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

And they’re right. Little buggers best not let me catch ‘em in my chicken feed

[-] bigboitricky@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

Hi do you accept MousterCard

Yes but we don't accept American Express

[-] derry@midwest.social 25 points 1 day ago

Damnit now I picture a little mouse in a 3 piece suit, hat, strolling down the street, only to be conned by some rat with a goatee. But in the end he wins by getting the rat trapped in a cage.

[-] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

And now I just converted that little scenario into a random encounter for my d&d session on Monday.

You think the satanic panic was about occult imagery? No, it's about loot distribution! Why should the druid get an equal cut when the rogue is going all the damage?

Socialism is where the mouse gets the cheese. Capitalism is where the cheese looks free, then you try to get it.

[-] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 4 points 12 hours ago

Capitalism is where the mouse pays for the cheese and then gets killed anyway

[-] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

The cheese isnt real cheese but 'cheese product' created from industrial waste and artificially priced to maximize profits for the shareholders.

[-] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 53 points 1 day ago

Just pull yourself up by your cheese traps, bro.

[-] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 20 points 1 day ago

Capitalism: If it’s free, then you’re the product

[-] zea_64 27 points 1 day ago

If it's paid, you're actually still the product

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago

Enshitification

[-] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

The cheese has a subscription and cheese payments will slowly bleed you dry. You can try to quit cheese but the capitalists know that you have eat. Under capitalism, all the mice die poor and hungry except one.

[-] lunarul@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I know many people who were the mouse in this story by going to the hospital in the US, not conceiving that it won't be free, only to get hit with the trap of huge bills when they get out.

[-] Sergio@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Socialism is when the mice make their own cheese.

Yeah when you are about to join a workers collective Karl Marx is waiting to hit you on the head with a comically large flyswatter

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Dear corporations, is this why we can access your apps websites for free? You are not stealing our information, selling them to data brokers and advertisers, and weaponising our interests to vote against our own interests, do you?

[-] roguetrick@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago

I dunno man, when I do a critical theory examination of the mousetrap system, it doesn't seem to involve the cheese at all but the fact that some powerful bastard wound up a spring.

[-] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

The mouse trap is capitalism, the cheese is your retirement.

[-] Eq0@literature.cafe 16 points 1 day ago

Somebody really not understanding what free means…

Social protections are not free, we all pay into them. Europe has much higher tax rates than US. These tax rates are there to pay for healthcare, public services, education, and a host of employee protections (infinite sick leave, significant maternal leave, various forms of care leave, protections from exploitation and unfair dismissals…)

Our grandfathers fought for it, so we can live a healthy work life next to a healthy personal life. And every day we fight to find the correct balance to maintain this system.

Unless… are taxes the trap??

[-] ideonek@piefed.social 11 points 1 day ago

All what mouse eat is free.

[-] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 day ago

All what mouse eat is THEFT. If they weren't so LAZY and got a job they could pay for cheese like the rest of us. Ratatouille was one of the good ones.

  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
