Sending this to every Dutch person I know

[-] SARGE@startrek.website 97 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

If there's two things I cannot fucking stand, it's people who are intolerant of other's cultures... And the Dutch.

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 34 points 3 days ago

But you repeat yourself.

Apart from the joke, I think everyone should be intolerant of intolerance

[-] Kenny2999@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Exaxtly. Please stop tolerating your own intolerance. It is intolerable.

All languages are fake...
If its a functional language then its a language like any other.

[-] lennee@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago

i will accept this argument for high valyrian and klingon… but dutch, rlly?

[-] lena@gregtech.eu 6 points 3 days ago

Yeah, imperative languages suck anyway

[-] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Dutch spelling makes more sense than English spelling and English speakers have to live with that fact

[-] blinfabian@feddit.nl 7 points 2 days ago

we hebben een serieus probleem

Not if I don't know Dutch

[-] bobs_monkey@lemmy.zip 17 points 3 days ago

Today's challenge: is it Dutch or Klingon

[-] Safeguard@beehaw.org 9 points 3 days ago

To many throaty sounds to be Klingon

[-] Shelena@feddit.nl 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Grachtengordel. Scheveningen. Qapla'.

[-] tja@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago

Okay, you convinced me that this is indeed a fake language.

Aardig? Really?

[-] Shelena@feddit.nl 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Als we Nieuw Amsterdam niet hadden gegeven aan de Engelsen hadden jullie allemaal Nederlands gesproken! ;-)

[-] TotallynotJessica 2 points 3 days ago

We all probably would've been better off for it.

[-] DJDarren@sopuli.xyz 16 points 3 days ago

Any language that has 'stroopwafel' cannot be a serious language.

Man, they're good though.

[-] mauubunzie_Kittyroll69420 5 points 3 days ago

don’t forget “ we hebben een serieus probleem ”

[-] Blubber28@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

Learning Dutch can actually be really useful! For example I, as a Dutchman, like to use my own tongue whenever my Warlock communicates with their devil patron in our D&D games.

[-] Cevilia 7 points 2 days ago

Given Duolingo is increasingly full of AI slop, it doesn't surprise me.

[-] blinfabian@feddit.nl 10 points 2 days ago

they had fake languages before AI..

[-] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 days ago

GEKOLONISEERD

[-] glitchdx@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

constructed languages are still languages. They may not be as well fleshed out as languages that developed naturally over time, but you can still learn and speak/write them. Some constructed languages are more complete than others.

[-] tgirlschierke 1 points 2 days ago

yeah, those are real. dutch isn't

[-] khaleer@sopuli.xyz 8 points 3 days ago

How could you forget about Esperanto, you...

Ah because it's a real one. Fine then.

[-] BrundleFly2077@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago

And somehow still no Slovak.

[-] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 days ago

Klingon is a better constructed language then most.

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 4 points 3 days ago

Dutch sounds cool to me, though. I can see why people want to learn it even if it's not real language.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
