I'm unfamiliar with this concept and trying to understand. Does boymoding here refer to a trans woman choosing to present as male? I feel like I'm almost but not quite understanding this comic and thread!

Sometimes when you don't think you can pass, it might feel safer to present male or ambiguous. Unfortunately, it's also common for those transfems to underestimate how feminine they still are and fail to pass as male. For example, I tried to boymode when traveling through a conservative state, yet still "malefailed" because I had fully transitioned to using a feminine voice and couldn't revert it on the fly. Looking androgynous enough to have family friends think I was always a girl for years didn't help either.

Thank you for the explanation! This makes a lot of sense, I never considered that someone might choose to tactically adjust their gender presentation like that, in retrospect it's not surprising.

If it wasn't obvious I'm a cis person, I imagine there're a lot of negative feelings like anxiety or even dysmorphia associated with doing that kind of thing but on the bright side it seems like it could feel like pulling off a heist as well.

It's an unfair burden but it's also kinda cool that you engage with and think about gender identity in a critical way, using it as a tool almost in addition to a core part of your identity.

Thanks again for helping me understand, I hope I haven't come across as rude in finding this a little fascinating.

When I came out after boymoding what I thought was successfully no one was surprised, I was so obvious that they had in fact thought I was transitioning in the other direction 🤦‍♀️

I failed so hard there were multiple people in my extended friend group who didn't realize I hadn't actually started transitioning. Mind you, I hadn't even admitted to myself that I was trans at that point and was repressing it super hard. Mfers saw me as a woman before I did 🥲

Pretty much me lately at work. Pretty much just trying to coast off of people either oblivious to the changes or being to worried about being impolite to say anything about it. Honestly curious how many are in each camp. Everyone seems to he/him/sir me without hesitation except the person who I'm pretty sure is a chaser...

trans women should develop boymoding into an Olympic sport

I'm jealous :/ I get misgendered by strangers all the time although I've started transitioning over 5 years ago :'(
