Antivaxer DeNiro, sometimes enabler of Robert Fucked-up Kennedy, complicit in putting I don't know how many thousands of children in peril, lauded for supporting one...

My respect for the guy took a huge bump in 2016, when he vocaly stated that trump was racist bully and a huge piece of shit. Great guy.

My respect for the guy took a huge bump

Uh oh. This could go either way.

Great guy.

Phew

Their birth name is Aaron. She clearly wanted to keep it similar.

[-] TheDoozer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Like... Erin?

[-] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

LMAO I'm sending that to my fellow trans friends

Atleast when you let people pick their own names it's actually interesting and isn't just "Jeff" or something (no hate to Jeff tho <3)

Mildred is a fucking great name. Airyn is a bit rougher, but in general I feel that us trans femmes have absolutely nothing on trans mascs who really do go wild with their names or end up as one of the 75% of trans guys called Ryland, or a variation thereof.

I think Mildred is too much like mildew to be a great idea buuut that's my opinion so do what you want with it

[-] DimlyLitFlutteringMoth 2 points 1 day ago

Mildew is clearly a trans femme non-binary name though

[-] DimlyLitFlutteringMoth 1 points 1 day ago

(I know this because it strikes me as neat - swamp witch vibes)

[-] MBM@lemmings.world 5 points 1 day ago

Not Kai?

[-] DimlyLitFlutteringMoth 4 points 1 day ago

Ahhh, I knew I was forgetting the third in the trinity of trans guy names

Trans guys please stop bullying me because of your taste in names 😭

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago

Is Mildred old enough to make a come back yet? In my mind it's lumped in with names from about 70-100 years ago, along with Gladys, Ethel, and Phyllis. I guess Millie sounds ok, but Airyn sounds way better to me

[-] aeshna_cyanea@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

There's a very famous (in certain circles) trans singer named ethel

[-] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 3 points 1 day ago

Airyn sounds like Aaron though.

It’s funny because I’ve seen almost the exact opposite; Trans femmes are choosing beautiful gorgeous names that fit them perfectly. Then trans mascs are just like “oh hey, I’m Steve.”

[-] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

To be fair, when someone's a Steve, they're a Steve. There's just no faking it. Good on those trans-men for recognizing it.

I know several females who should definitely be called Dave

[-] zippo@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

"I... Am Steve."

[-] DimlyLitFlutteringMoth 8 points 1 day ago

I would love to know a trans masc called Steve. I do know multiple Haydn and Rylan though! Most of the trans femmes I know either pick a perfectly fine normal name or they are a flower. So many Rose.

[-] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 32 points 2 days ago

For real, if you have a chance of picking your own name, workshop it.

[-] StarlightDust 14 points 2 days ago

I think its actually quite cute but I do suspect its going to get annoying when she is trying to tell a cashier her email.

[-] Zorsith 9 points 2 days ago

You use your name in your email address???

[-] oftheair 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

WTF?! Why get judgy over other's names? Also Mildred is a great name.

[-] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

I took that as tongue and cheek supportive. As in, the friend is totally cool with their friend coming out as trans, but cants get over the choice of name.

Is there a name for that type of swap humour? Where you set up a joke and the punchline plays off the less obvious point in the lead up?

[-] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago
[-] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah. I guess that probably covers it. Seems almost mundane now....

Thanks.

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

it's a bit of a meme that trans people pick weird ass names. this one falls on the better side imo; usually it's a name you'd only hear in a bingo game

[-] oftheair 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

"Oh yes?" hides our names behind our back "you don't say." "Interesting..."

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I think it's cute. I'm cishet so don't have authority here but I do think the joking about it is fine because this particular joke usually comes from a place of understanding, as opposed to the attack helicopter joke that's clearly made from a place of ignorance and othering.

It's like Jewish comedians making fun of themselves vs what nazis think a "joke" about Jewish people is.

So sad when just common decency counts as good news.

[-] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

Right

"Supportive father continues to be supportive."

Riviting stuff....

[-] leaf 29 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Every parent needs to be like this!

[-] ploot 3 points 1 day ago

Many of us are, but we don't make the news because it's just ordinary parental love. It's good to have high-profile examples for the media to report on, or people may only hear about the bigotry of terrible parents like Elon Musk.
