Femboys are boys who dress, act, and/or look feminine.

Trans girls are girls who were assigned male at birth and identify as girls.

I hope this clears up any misconceptions on the subject.

Sorry to confuse the issue, but I'm an AMAB enby that fits both and neither of these categories. =3

Ruka is probably my favorite trans character in media for the fact she tried to alter time to "become a girl". Someone just needed to let her know about the magic of estrogen

[-] PowerfulTurtle@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 week ago

Maybe she just wanted more than what Estrogen and bottom surgery could provide her?

[-] parmesan@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Maybe, it just seemed to me that she didn't consider or know about the possibility of transitioning

[-] PowerfulTurtle@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

It's possible I guess, maybe she also just didn't want to wait for changes that would never be as good as if it had always been (yesterday is way faster than 2-3 years after all), and also when you change history, you change all people's memories too.

And here i am, waiting on y'all to drop the sauce so i can binge content about this character 😜

[-] parmesan@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Steins gate! It's one of my favorite TV shows of all time

[-] Zorsith 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Oof, i tried to get into that one years ago but for some reason couldn't; think it might've been the animation style?? I should give it another shot at some point.

Edit; also any sauce for the top right girly? Not often i see an art style include bags under eyes

I don't think Astolfo is a femboy cause they never refer to themselves as a boy and the japanese games use neutral pronouns. Big non-binary energy.

[-] PowerfulTurtle@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 week ago

Maybe, I don't know. He certainly does give off femboy/femby energy. Maybe he might be both.

[-] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

femby

Learned a new word today, I'll just paste the definition for others to learn :)

Femby, also known as femenby, finby, fenby, or finenby, is a gender identity for those who identify as feminine and non-binary.

I thought there was a scene where he acknowledges he was a boy and just wears the clothes he wants?

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Grand Order uses they/them and their gender is [Redacted] in the stats.

Things change, eggs crack, etc

Plus they're not real

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 week ago

astolfo is real in our hearts, shut up!!

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 6 points 1 week ago

You should get that checked out by a doctor

[-] festnt@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

am i not supposed to have anime people inside my organs? i think i did something wrong

[-] shani66@ani.social 4 points 1 week ago

That's not an uncommon thing for that kinda archetype. There is a reason there was another word for it back in the day.

You decide on who you are and anybody telling you who you are can ef right off.

[-] anothercatgirl 19 points 1 week ago

I'm a gender fluid trans girl except on Femboy Friday when I'm a femboy. My pronouns depend on the day of the week, but I always am okay with she/her.

[-] sneezycat@sopuli.xyz 24 points 1 week ago

What pronouns do you use on logsday?

Assassination classroom femboy, excellent choice.

[-] flicker@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago

Yeah but he was a male forced to dress as a girl by his Mom (and on one occasion, the classmates). I don't think he would want to be included as a femboy.

[-] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah, that's why I found his inclusion odd. There are a plethora of better choices of actually femboys who dress and act like girls uncoerced.

[-] AllBiMyself 10 points 1 week ago

Love em both though

[-] felykiosa@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago
[-] PowerfulTurtle@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago

I agree that they're all very cute, but still the differences should be acknowledged and respected.

[-] Smorty 8 points 1 week ago

oh no - "learn the difference" god that phrase still makes me mad

[-] PowerfulTurtle@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 week ago

Sorry if I offended anyone. I was actually very upset when I posted this because someone had been arguing that I'm an egg and trans girl in denial and that femboys are just trans girls who haven't gotten HRT and bottom surgery.

They said a lot more evil shit that I don't want to repeat. So I felt the need to make this post here and on !femboy@lemmy.blahaj.zone and I was kind of still upset when I came up with the title.

[-] ChaoticCookie@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with an 🥚joke every now and then, but you shouldn’t argue with someone about their gender! That’s a very unsilly thing to do D:

[-] zea_64 6 points 1 week ago

A single egg joke now and then, when it's very clear it's a joke, might be okay as like an in-joke, but if everyone says it every so often then OP's gonna see that joke from someone constantly.

If you hear an ironic joke too often, it starts to lose its irony, and in this case that would probably lead to feelings of invalidation. So don't make the joke towards people you don't know.

Top left - Astolfo (Fate/Apocrypha) (artist is pas / paxiti - https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/3208688) (NSFW site)

Bottom left - Nagisa (Assassination Classroom)

Top right - Lily Hoshikawa (Zombieland Saga)

Bottom right - Luka Urushibara (Steins;Gate) (artist is foge - https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1271211) (NSFW site)

[-] Goretantath@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

One of these is someone being forced to dress as the opposite gender because their mom is a nutcase btw.

i.. disagree? surely the only difference is what they identify as?
sounds pretty shitty to only let people qualify as trans when they've actually transitioned..

[-] PowerfulTurtle@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

That's not the message or takeaway from this post, it is that boys can be feminine without being trans.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 week ago

right but then why define being trans as having transitioned? why not just say
"femboys are boys who dress, act, and/or look feminine. Trans girls are girls who were assigned male at birth and identify as female"

[-] parmesan@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Transition can refer to a lot of different things, not just medical transition. if you start to ask others to call you by different pronouns for example that's a form of social transition even if you've only chosen to come out to a few people

edit: To clarify I'm not saying you need to have even done that step to be valid as a trans person, it's just likely that no one would know you're trans unless you've at least taken that step

[-] PowerfulTurtle@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

That is a better one and I should've written that from the beginning.

[-] chocosoldier 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

surely the only difference is what they identify as?

sounds like you already know the difference, where's the disagreement? dudes can be fem without being trans gals

  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
