Nope, he was #44 and if Biden fucks it up, he'll still be the 44th president.

If it was once per term, Obama would be counted twice as well and FDR would be counted as FOUR presidents.

Which is why I said in its current form, not so much

The current form isn't even conservatism, it's just full blown fascism.

Having a dissenting voice can at times help ensure whether or not you’re on the right track.

True in principle, but not when that dissenting voice drags you further in the wrong direction you were already heading, as is the case in a to party system where both parties are right of center and the one closest to the center is pathologically obsessed with compromise for the sake of compromise and the other one is ideologically opposed to ever compromising.

That’s why I said conceptually it’s good, or at least it can be.

I still disagree. The concept of an opposition party is good. The concept of a center right to right wing led party having an opposition party to the right and none to the left isn't.

None of those sources substantiate why they would want him to win.

Nobody's saying that the Hillary campaign wanted Trump to be president. As for why they wanted him to be the nominee, there's no way that none of the sources say why.

Especially since the Dem party leadership apparently learned nothing and are still using the same pied piper strategy to support far right candidates in Republican primaries for the exact same reason.

Conceptually, a conservative presence in American politics is a good thing

Not really, no. The entire philosophy of conservatism is sticking to/going back to the old ways AKA standing in the way of progress. The US has plenty of THAT from the economic elite who want to keep calling the shots without politicians helping them.

All you've done is try to argue that it makes perfect sense using false logic. If you think that's you somehow "helping me" and not an argument, I agree that there's no point in continuing.

Disagreement ≠ lack of knowledge or understanding.

If I don't put on a decent to good movie I've already seen several times AND brown noise (not to be confused with the theorized Brown Note), odds are I don't fall asleep for several hours if at all.

Sleep advice and other such "lifehacks" are seldom very ADHD-friendly and can be borderline ableist at times.

There's tons of disinformation being spewed onto social media and all other online platforms leading up to an election.

That disinformation in the form of paid ads and engagement-driving viral posts is officially against the rules everywhere, but if the rules aren't enforced, they're meaningless.

TL;DR: less effective enforcement against disinformation = more profits for the platforms

Yes. Her campaign elevated him to the nomination and ran one of the worst presidential campaigns in history, alienating tens of millions and leading to one of the lowest voter participations in presidential election history.

If they hadn't done both, there's no way that he'd ever had come within cheating distance of the white house.

looks at Biden's poll numbers in states he can't afford to lose and stubborn insistence on not changing the unpopular course of action that caused them

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 15 points 20 hours ago

It was the Hillary campaign's decision to help elevate Trump to the nomination and give him as much media exposure as possible, thinking that it would make it easy for her to win.

It was also them that ran one of the worst presidential campaigns in history, including telling people not to vote for her and neglecting to campaign in key swing states out of pure arrogant hubris.

Inescapable conclusion to anyone who isn't a Hillary stan or otherwise a blind Dem party loyalist:

Hillary and her campaign are more culpable for Trump infesting the white house than anyone else outside of the far right echo chamber and foreign agents.

To those not familiar with the hilarious Fern Brady: there's probably absolutely miniscule overlap between people who like her style of comedy and those who like hacks like Iglesias and Dunham.

No clue about Gilmore Girls fandom overlap, though.

That's like saying "oh, you like gummy bears? I bet you also like pasta carbonara!" 😄

Republican defends child marriage: I'm "pro-choice"

A New Hampshire Republican lawmaker who has been under fire for defending child marriage has lashed out at his "haters" while insisting that his stance is "pro-choice."

State Representative Jess Edwards inspired outrage last week after describing underage teenage girls as "ripe" and "fertile" while arguing against a bill to raise the age of marriage in the Granite State from 16 to 18. The bill passed by a vote of 192-174 despite objections from Edwards and others.

Edwards described critics of his underage marriage stance as "an army of control freaks that want to entice a pregnant woman into an abortion rather than allow a marriage" in a Facebook post on Monday.

Zoo defends ‘panda’ exhibit after criticism for using dogs dyed black and white

On May 1, the zoo drew large crowds of excited animal lovers as it prepared to unveil a new attraction.

When the zoo revealed the animals, visitors were met with the sight of little four-legged creatures, with white faces and black spots around their eyes and ears - not unlike the colorings of a panda.

The only thing is, these creatures weren't pandas. In fact, they were Chow Chows - a dog you might recognize from real life or social media, since they're very much the opposite of a wild animal.

The spitz-type dogs originally come from northern China, and were presented at the zoo because the owners said they didn't have any actual pandas to show visitors.

The owners were accused of trimming and dying the dogs to look like pandas, causing some backlash as locals accused the zoo of animal cruelty.

However, a spokesperson for the zoo hit back at the criticism as they pointed out that 'people also dye their hair'.

Ron DeSantis bans 'global elite' lab-grown meat

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has banned lab-grown meat, saying he will "save our beef" from the "global elite" and its "authoritarian plans".

"Florida is fighting back against the global elite's plan to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs," Mr DeSantis said in a statement.

The first-in-the-nation law prohibits anyone from selling or distributing lab-grown meat in Florida.

Similar efforts are under way in Alabama, Arizona and Tennessee.

Lab-grown or "cultivated" meat was first cleared for consumption in the US in 2022.

The process of making cultivated meat involves extracting cells from an animal, which are then fed with nutrients such as proteins, sugars and fats. The end product is genetically indistinguishable from traditionally produced meat.

Studies have suggested that eating cultivated meat can cut carbon emissions and water usage, and free up land for nature, compared to eating traditionally produced meat.
