FYI, Dr. Glaucomflecken is an ophthalmologist and has a YouTube channel full of medical comedy bits. I'd link it but I'm too tired from writing and triple-checking "Glaucomflecken" and "ophthalmologist".

Thank you! Yay, teamwork makes the fediverse go 'round!

I’m a doctor and every time I write ophthalmologist I’m surprised at how many H’s there are and where they end up.

[-] akwd169@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Phenolphthalein is a similar experience, as a chemist

So strange to surround a T with H's like that

[-] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Of you could just not worry about it in any language that spells words sensibly. It's fenolftalein where I live.

[-] akwd169@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago

As if my brain will let me misspell stuff, ever

I know, right? At least it's not otorhinolaryngology.

[-] CrackaAssCracka@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Oh you mean ENT? I refuse to acknowledge the existence of any other term for the specialty.

[-] greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net 26 points 2 weeks ago

He's awesome. And hes doing real activism for the fucked up US medical system.

[-] Manalith@midwest.social 21 points 2 weeks ago

Is his name genuinely that close to Glaucoma or is it a "stage" name. If real, I think that's wild he chose to become an ophthalmologist.

[-] colforge@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago

It’s a stage name. His real name is Will Flanary and Glaucomflecken is a medical term:

Glaucomflecken are small, gray-white spots that form on the front layer of the eye’s natural lens. They are the physical scars left behind when the eye has suffered a sudden, severe spike in internal pressure, typically due to an episode of acute angle-closure glaucoma.

[-] RidderSport@feddit.org 7 points 2 weeks ago

Flecken is German for spots. Glaukomflecken just means glaucoma spots.

[-] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 12 points 2 weeks ago

Oh shit, I know that channel and didn’t pick up who it was until your comment made me look closer at his profile picture. He’s pretty damn funny with healthcare relevant comedy.

[-] deacon@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

I totally understand. Nice work on those words, especially if you’re on your phone.

With a name like "Glaucomaflecken," he was destined to become an opthalmologist.

I'm apparently already subscribed to him, but looks like he mostly does shorts...? I've avoided those things like the plague...

I want to watch his videos but don't really want to open the Pandora box that is shorts, trying to make me scroll forever until I'm brain dead

he is a -3 cuz didn't see it coming

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 108 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, he could have worded that better, lol.

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.today 44 points 2 weeks ago

I had to consider what the joke was... guess my mind is on the correct lens Rx because I wear glasses also

[-] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 weeks ago

Glasses wearing world unite.

[-] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 82 points 2 weeks ago

Hah i saw the "dr" first and knew what he was talking about. Also helps to be a glasses wearer in this case i guess

[-] Lupus108@sh.itjust.works 27 points 2 weeks ago

The rest of his username is the German word for "glaucoma spots" btw.

[-] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

And alas, though he tries to guide others to medical truths, the damage is already done and in one fell swoop he has been cursed to 'die alone'

[-] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 75 points 2 weeks ago

Oh man I love that guy. His vids are great. I esp love his rural medicine bits because I grew up in the boonies and it reminds me of home lmao.

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 51 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Is he the one with the video of the farmer guy who says "my wife told me I should come in" and they all go into high alert? Lol

[-] subverted_per 14 points 2 weeks ago

Same, I love their their horrifying dependence on texaco Mike for modern medical tech.

[-] OleFoFa@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

"did he finish the chore?" "-no, he stopped it and came to the doctor's office on his own initiative!" .......... [BIG RED BUTTON PRESSED] "GET THE CHOPPER!"

[-] greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

That's the guy! Don't worry, he'll get Texaco Mike on the phone! He's got the MRI machine 🤣

Diopter? I don’t even know her.

Could be worse, -12.5 and -16 in contacts for me. Prefer it to being blind though.

[-] greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

I started my contacts journey at +7.5 and +7.75. I've been in +3.00 and +3.25 for about 10 years now. No one knows why I dramatically got better in 3 years but that was a wild 3 years of not really being able to see because it was changing so much.

He has made some hilarious videos about being a doctor, for those who don't know who he is. Can highly recommend

[-] velma@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 weeks ago

At least he didn't double down hahaa

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago

I am guessing we are talking about Cylinder here because those look a little thick for a -1 Sphere.

[-] spicehoarder@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

I still have the same reaction to seeing anyone discus someone else's medical information unprompted like that. Kinda creepy ngl

[-] yucandu@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

He's an internet doctor personality, so he does that.
