mm/dd/yy be like
That'll cost $100 at a fancy French restaurant.
ISO 8601 date formats be like:
No they say you should use the things from big to small. So: bowl, then cereal, then milk. Which sounds reasonable
Not just reasonable, that's the very definition of reason.
For those keeping score, that's ordering files by date and cereal confusion it's good for.
For everything else, DMY is the way to go.
Also anything that may be viewed by someone who doesn't already know what year the document is from.
I'm trying SO hard rn to resist the urge to be militant about my favorite datetime format
DMY is good. YMD is also good. Anything else is stupid
Is it D(ay)M(onth)Y(ear) aka the best one for 99% of all things?
Year, Month, Day, which is better because it's sortable
Sure.
And I like to sort by month.
That's one of the weirdest kinks I've seen, but I guess you should do you... thumbs up
That's ISO 8601.
While I'll concede that it's the best one for sorting thinks that span more than a year, such as the photos on your phone, DMY makes much more sense for everything else.
Okay I totally see your perspective and I could stop there but I love arguing so let me play devil's advocate here.
The year is most important, especially if you assume it's the current year but it turns out not to be:
The important party is tomorrow, next year.
Your last doctors checkup was three weeks ago, ten years ago.
Seriously DMY is the way to go.
I forget what day it is, generally I know the month and year.
When looking at things older than 6 months the year is immediately more relevant to me than the day.
Reminds me of when Kelloggs asked people in the UK to share on Twitter how they ate cornflakes and put the results in an ad. The results were: put the cornflakes in a bowl, pour on milk and then eat them. Like nobody could have foreseen such a result.
Similar to when a Disaronno ad told people how to make Disaronno and orange juice. Put Disaronno in a glass, then pour in orange juice.
At least the bowl is clean?
Not the underside tho
Nononononono you have the break the bowl up into little pieces too.
okay but Frankenberry > Count Chocula > Booberry and I will fight about it
Count Chocula. I'll be out in the parking lot.
Transitive Law does not apply.
How do I unsee this?
This has "why I season my cutting board instead of my steak" energy.
Did The Grinch post this?
Then who put the spoon there! And when!?

Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Donât be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Donât waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but donât tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Donât perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we donât want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they havenât been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like âthis statement can be considered transphobicâ rather than âyou are being transphobicâ.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You donât get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
