[-] iveseenthat@reddthat.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Top rated comment? Lisp? Are we all nerds around here?

[-] YoSoySnekBoi@kbin.earth 51 points 2 weeks ago

Hmmm...seems too ambiguous - gotta use standard syntax, hold up...

^(s|t)?hey?(?!m)$
^t?h(e|i)(m|r)$
^t?h(e|i){1,2}r?s$

Much better.

Yeah I gave up on narrowing the scope, I ain't that dedicated to the bit

[-] kibiz0r@midwest.social 9 points 2 weeks ago

You’re not necessarily wrong for it. The source material is nonsense to begin with, so who’s to say what the right test cases are?

[-] death_to_carrots@feddit.org 7 points 2 weeks ago

I don't see the problem.

[-] not_IO 16 points 2 weeks ago

^(they|he|she)$

[-] Yoddel_Hickory@lemmy.ca 33 points 2 weeks ago

Fork bomb as a gender when?

[-] tyler@programming.dev 25 points 2 weeks ago

Both himer and therm are valid pronouns with how that is written lol.

[-] hobovision@mander.xyz 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

But them is not valid.

[-] knightly@pawb.social 17 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The operation order here is extremely easy, because the only operator here is multiplication.

(S)T(HE)Y = THEYS

[-] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 7 points 2 weeks ago

I fuck with theys ngl

future where singular they becomes more common than plural they in English, so people append -s to they to distinguish it (like what's happening in many dialects, such as mine, with yous/youse)

[-] knightly@pawb.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

As a former Texan, I can confidently say that y'all are alright and I'd love to see that future.

As a They, I can confidently ask "How you doin'?" =3

[-] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 weeks ago

Lets just use regex at this point.

[-] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago

Pronouns will go full circle back into geek code

[-] i_dont_want_to 13 points 2 weeks ago

[-] meh@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

My gender is Space

My gender is also Noodle

[-] hansolo@lemmy.today 5 points 2 weeks ago

So then in relation to you, the really tall building in Seattle is....?

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

No, that's me. People just keep spelling it wrong.

[-] JayDee@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Aren't the optional parts supposed to be in the parentheses? Like the portions you know are going into the pronoun should not be seperated from the text. So it'd be (s)(t)he(y) I think.

[-] criss_cross@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Are my pronouns supposed to be sty/sthey?

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

The one thing i will agree with some "they" haters on is that it can be quite confusing that it's the same as the plural pronoun, we really need one of them to be different.

[-] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago
[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago

great, unfortunately looks like the name of an alien so no one is going to seriously use that.

i think probably the most realistic thing is to make the plural be something like "theyse/themse", it's a little awkward but i wouldn't feel dumb saying it in normal conversation since it just sounds slang-y

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
