Had us in the first half, not gonna lie.

[-] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Mormons definitely deserve a lot of the bad rap they get, what with the overbearing patriarchal whatever they've got going. But they can usually be counted on to feed people.

[-] Shootingstarrz17@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Ah, didn't know that. Cool.

[-] irish_link@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Felt the same way too. In fact I think there was a subreddit dedicated to something like "first line/sentence" and thus there should/must be a Community for it by now.

[-] Shootingstarrz17@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I think so too. Can't remember the name either, it's been a while.

how does a 14 year old work overnight i dont get it

[-] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

That's easy: you don't go to high-school anymore.

[-] madeinthebackseat@lemmy.world 101 points 3 days ago

Just a reminder that the LDS Church has $206 Billion in the bank.

A church. $206 Billion.

They also own 2.7% of private land in Florida and 1 in every 550 acres of private land in the U.S.:

[-] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Also a reminder that "Mormon porn" is an incredibly popular genre on Pornhub.

[-] Sporkbomber@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago

Is that just the bubble 'porn' that went viral in the 2000's?

[-] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 3 points 2 days ago

Is it neither for Mormons nor by Mormons? That's a strange kink

I'm 100% certain it is for Mormons, but I don't know if it's by Mormons or not. Based on my personal encounters with them, actual Mormon girls are way hotter than the girls in the porn.

[-] MisterFrog@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Good thing it ends up in the hands of the Belters (at least in the TV show)

[-] 9bananas@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

also in the books!

the expanse is probably the most faithful reproduction of a book series ever.

especially considering it's like, what?, 5 books they made into the series?

it's almost a 1:1 translation into a different medium, which is hella impressive!

they cut some stuff here and there (more and more as the series goes on, for obvious reasons) but seriously, damn near everything about the main story is there!

there's really good reasons for the fans demanding more of it after Netflix stopped production

Neither is terraforming planets for every male member

[-] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

The show American Primeval was the beginning, they showed how they ripped people/towns/indians apart for that land under government control by Brigham young. True or not, I'd believe it given their stake today.

That’s a nice start, but it needs to be free for all kids, like at least my state

[-] Crikeste@lemm.ee 12 points 2 days ago

Yeah, there no god damned reason K-12 lunch shouldn’t be free. Fucking bonkers to add another line item to people’s budgets. Especially now.

[-] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 140 points 3 days ago

Richest country in the history of the planet, and we have "lunch debt" for kids in school.

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

They held my high school diploma for 6 months because I had $20 dollar deficit.

They never got the money because my dad threatened a lawsuit.

[-] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

My school held someone's diploma to the max legal limit (like 6 months) because they did a twirl when walking on stage to get the fake diploma case thing.

Many US schools are more oppressive than some other country's prisons

[-] Technoguyfication@sh.itjust.works 58 points 3 days ago

Well yeah, how are we going to get rich if we aren’t taking money from 5 year olds?

[-] DerArzt@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago

And making them work to repay it!

[-] pdxfed@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

We can't bailout lunch kids, what about my meth addiction debt? Nobody helped me. BOoTsTrApS!

It makes me sad I wasn’t expecting this headline from Utah whatsoever when starting to read it but I’m glad it’s positive in the end

[-] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 20 points 3 days ago

Utah is a little weird in that they aren't so Mich maga as much as they are Mormon, they have progressive politics when it just so happens to suit the church's needs

[-] Unboxious@ani.social 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Sort of. Our leadership have been doing some incredibly sketchy things lately and are very buddy-buddy with Trump.

[-] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah that’s a good point. Mormons are still weird to me but I’ve known some and they are pretty chill people for the most part and pretty rational about stuff. Much, much easier to hang around than fucking southern baptists and can even be fun. I smoke a lot of weed and they never partook but never cared so I always thought that was cool

They're playing the long game here.

1st remove fluoride from municipal water sources, kids start getting more cavities.

2nd give free lunches.

3rd kids stop eating their free lunches due to the pain of their cavities.

4th State government proclaims they've done such a tremendous job with the economy that kids aren't eating and needing free meals anymore, so they are removing them from the budget.

/s

[-] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

Remove the /s cause this is pretty much on the money.

[-] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 3 days ago

Utah. White people helping white people 🤍

[-] Tempus_Fugit@midwest.social 13 points 3 days ago

I've been saying, "oh well" at just about every headline I've read in the past three months as a coping mechanism, but this one caught me off guard. I definitely expected Utah to charge kids full-price. Glad to hear they're looking out for kids.

Love to see it.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

That this is a state-level thing tells you just how much Democrats suck.

[-] blakenong@lemmings.world 11 points 3 days ago

And how awesome republicans are? Let’s look at all the policies in schools on average and decide. This is a great move by Utah, but I doubt the right wing Utahans pushed this.
