It Looks as if they actually did engage in child sacrifice. Really not that shocking in the grand scheme of human history. Idk about the cannibalism tho

I'm sure the national state farm corporation spun off shell companies to reduce liability in these high risk areas.

I have an e bike. Love it! It's my daily commuter.

People in cars are often too impatient and callously ambivalent about anyone's safety who's not in a car. Idk what it is about hopping behind a wheel that makes people so impatient and mean spirited. I mean they're driving around in an environment so comfortable and convenient it would make the pharos of old green with envy.

The infrastructure for biking, if extant at all, is often jammed in as an afterthought and far less useful, and far more dangerous than your average motorist may realize.

Also there's a segment of my fellow bikers who bike not because they prefer it to automobiles, but because they're not functional enough to own an auto, valid license, insurance, etc. This segment of the biking community all too often gives the rest of us a bad look.

And yes, I think a bit of well thought out regulation and enforcement may be in order.

Public transportation doesn't work in the endless suburbs and stripmalls we've built. It's too spread out, and we've been doing it for a few generations now. It's difficult for my countrypeople to imagine living differently, to imagine that our current existence may not be their birthright.

People think nothing of living 20 plus miles from where they work or go to school, can't imagine a world where such a thing is a ridiculous notion. We could have all these nice things. People want a better world, a more functional city.

But ask people to change, to live a smaller life, and be prepared for a deluge of excuses and justifications. We all wake up and collectively decide the world we're gonna live in today.

I just looked and it turns out I do have a tea store in town! Just opened in the last few months. Gonna stop in and sniff around a bit

[-] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Ya, I need to get off the bags. I had no idea about the micro plastics. I'm running by my kitchen store here in the next few days and buying a basket strainer.

How do you brew yours? I've also seen the little baskets on a string. It seems like that could work. Idk the basket seems like the most straight forward easiest thing to do.

I'm not sure how I feel about the flavors, I always hated them in coffee, I'm hesitant to order flavored tea.

I absolutely don't heat water in the microwave! I have a kettle like any other good god-fearing man.

However as a person who recently got into tea I'd love to hear recommendations on tea. I recently got a box of Yorkshire gold that's been pretty good to me

Lol my ex girlfriend had a "karate" teacher growing up. He taught them a few "Japanese" phrases. It wasn't until decades later she learned this dude just made it all up. I guess it was something you could get away with in early 90's bumfuck Wisconsin. Like this dude just rolled into town, started "karate" classes, and just kinda went with it.

El lizardo is a great name for a male strip club tho!

Any "big game". Moose taste like swamp.

Venison can be good if it's properly butchered and stored. It so often isn't though. People will shoot a deer then leave it to hang for a day in 50-60 degree weather. Just gross.

Bears are too greasy. And they're too smart, eating them is just bad karma.

A lot of game meat can be good, people just have no clue what to do with the processing side of it. They'll spend thousands of dollars buying the most ridiculous gear to kill the damn thing, and then just fail at butchering and preserving. Hunting is the easy part.

Tourism is bad. (lemmy.world)

10 of the last 10 years were the hottest on record. It's time. I know so many people that will give lip service to the environment and then think nothing of taking multiple flights per year on the flimsiest of pretexts.

And as all too often happens, people go to poorer countries where they get waited on hand and foot, and then act like they're doing some giant favor to the locals. All too often these tourist sights end up being an unmitigated natural disaster, not to mention locking the locals out of their own back yard.

And then they'll turn around and claim they're "helping the local economy" trying to justify it. It's colonialism by another name. If they paid fair wages to the workers these vacations would become much more expensive, perhaps prohibitively so.

And wtf is wrong with you, you can't relax in your own region? Gonna cook the planet because you can't be happy and relax in your own hemisphere. Y'all need to chill it with the air travel!

The wiki says it was transferred to Europe via the middle east. It seems obvious the Arabic numerals we use today are so much easier to work with than Roman numerals.

Was there a noticeable uptick in trade simply because bookkeeping became so much easier? Was there a noticeable uptick in the complexity and pervasiveness of monied, as opposed to in kind, daily trade in all levels of society?

It seems like the humble zero hit the scene and next thing you know the Renaissance is getting under way.

I left this pic in a comment on another post, but she's so cute I figured it deserved its own post.

Her fur was getting too clumped up. Think she got into some tree sap or something.
