We see a lot of posts here which are obviously referring to a specific gender or certain wants for transitioning, yet nobody seems to be using the CWs that the rules say should be used.

Why is this exactly? Should we be trying to point this out when people posting here don't? If they aren't ever used why do we have them as rules?

Most stuff on here doesn't have to be content warned. The warning is for assuming the gender of the viewer not for the target audience for the meme. For example, a meme saying "you are a girl" needs a CW while a comic about a girl saying how much she loves being a girl doesn't. The posts needing those warnings are fairly rare.

I don't think I've seen anything that would need the other CW posted here to begin with.

I'm also not a very active moderator. I'm only checking here about once a day and I'm usually more concerned with comments since that has historically been where the issues have been. This community doesn't have a lot of activity and has largely been supplanted by others on this server.

Thanks for clarifying what the rules mean. 🙂

Content warnings, per the rules:

  1. Posts that assume the viewer’s gender and/or contain potentially triggering content must be spoilered and tagged at the beginning of the post title. Example content-warning tags that you can copy include the following:
  • [CW: Assumes Viewer is Transmasc]
  • [CW: Assumes Viewer is Transfem]
  • [CW: Assumes Viewer is Nonbinary]
  • [CW: Transphobia]
  • [CW: Violence]
  • [CW: Weapons/Firearms]
  • [CW: Disturbing Imagery]

I'd say its a moderation issue, but I also think its unwise to remove otherwise fine content on a community with so little of it.

This largely needs to be a cultural shift. If you want to see more CWs, post frequently with them used appropriately to set an example.

We aren't asking for them to be removed as that would be needlesly harsh. We just want them to be encouraged to use the CWs, even with an edit.

Posting ourselves with good examples is a good idea and as soon as we find or can think of memes we want to share we will. In the meantime, we hope this post encourages the rules so that perhaps folks here will feel less uncomfortable (we know we have felt uncomfortable sometimes).

Content warning

I content warn more than most, but again, I'm not from your lemmy instance.

There should be more CW training tbh. It took my community a little more training to get it right: https://www.queer-spark.org/

What client are you using? How are they supposed to be used here? They seem to work on the client we're using.

[-] will_steal_your_username 2 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, I'm using the default web frontend. Might indeed be a frontend/client thing then

[-] oftheair 2 points 2 weeks ago

Ah, could be. Still, thanks for pointing it out! 🙂
