Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
This is like how mcdonnell douglas bought boeing with boeing's money.
Larry Ellison > Larry Ellison's son > Skydance Media > Paramount > The Free Press > CBS
Larry Ellison is on a mission to control American's through Media manipulation. That is not hyperbole. Larry Ellison is the scariest man in tech.
Let's not forget Peter Thiel
make sure there's space in the rocket we'll be firing into the sun for him too
For sure but Thiel, Musk and the rest of the silicon valley are nowhere near as scary as Ellison. They are loud and clumsy buffoons. Even now there's very little coverage putting a spotlight on Ellison's slow and quiet takeover of American media, even though he's the second richest person on the planet.
100%. Musk is obviously known by everyone at this point. Thiel tries to fly under the radar but is increasingly well known. Ellison is basically unknown outside of tech nerds and people who are terminally doom scrolling
I am personally not specifically worried about how far past the "holy shit they should disappear into the sun" line each of them are, or their rankings relative to that. Just that there are many past that line, and should they be yeeted into the giant blast furnace in the sky, the world would be better off.
Edit: Oh ffs autocorrect. Though if I turn it off I just end up with mpmdrmdr.
From what I've read, Thiel is possibly the most dangerous of them all - in a nutshell, he's a fucking psycho, working in the shadows.
He's currently promoting the dangers of the anti-christ coming to disrupt what he considers technological 'progress'....he's even suggested Greta Thunberg is the anti-christ!
That might sound mad, but I suspect there is method in his madness.
I am less afraid of a raving lunatic than I am a highly intelligent, determined, ruthless and calculating son of a removed. Thiel's Palantir is dangerous but Oracle is far more pervasive.
The right answer is to drop them both into the volcano.
Absolutely!
It's much easier from a delta-v point of view, and has much the same effect lethality wise, to fire them into Jupiter or even Venus.
I'll grant that it would be easier, but as a counterpoint, do we care if it successfully hits the sun? I'm pretty sure they'd die even if we missed.
I'd prefer to just bury them in soft peat for 3 months and recycle them as firestarters.
Oracle = One Rich Asshole Called Larry Ellison
His next quest is buying Warner Bros to get CNN
It isn't just news. The scary part of what Ellison is doing is the potential influence on the media we consume. It is not a far fetched idea to imagine shows and movies coming out of Paramount and Warner Brothers slowly beginning to tilt ever so slightly to the right until we find ourselves beginning to accept things that we once might have found offensive.
Media is pervasive and it has a very real ability to color the perception of the masses.
Don't forget Tik Tok! He is indeed a dangerous man...globally, not just America - he's part of the trump/starmer deal, with oracle building a data centre over here in the UK, and in line for setting up and storing the data for starmer's enforced digital ID plans - fuck that, fuck starmer, and fuck him.
Oh fuck...I indeed forgot. The fact that he has so much reach and nobody's noticed is crazy.
May they be equally successful.
