Yes, that's why a socialist was voted in and cuomo was voted out in the primaries. /s

Liberals are not socialists. If people vote for a socialist that means they're not voting for a liberal like Cuomo. Actually Mamdani is a "democratic socialist" and some socialists would distinguish that from socialism proper. But his policies are definitely working for the people, which is great to see. Liberals generally work for corporations before the people.

If you search the web for "Mamdani socialist" you find various flavors of right-wingers and evangelicals in full panic about how he'll end the world. If you look at his own website you find he proposes affordable buses, rent and childcare, and taxing corporations. Apocalyptic stuff.

Honestly, the term liberal, socialist, neo-liberal, etc. are such loaded terms and change constantly. They also are defined on who is hating on me at that moment. I don't have a term I call myself, but I like Bernie's ideas 99% of the time.

[-] prole 5 points 1 day ago

The term socialist definitely hasn't changed recently

[-] itslilith 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Those terms have clear, defined meanings and they only change because Americans have no idea what they're talking about

Bernie is a social democrat, or maybe a democratic socialist, depending on the day

The european VOLT party for that exact reason has done away with these labels for themselfs and their ideas. One word means something different to so many people, despite the ideas being the things you should vote for and not some lable throwing

[-] dacreator@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Honestly? They may change constantly for you, which is why you seem confused by them.

Progressive is probably what you are looking for.

I know, we're agreeing.

For some reason people need to feel like the world is against them. Im convinced they make up 50+% of the hate they claim is against them.
