You underestimate how many idiots there are in Canada too. Look at the prairies for example. The Conservatives who are basically just lite Republicans pretty much run those provinces and worship Trump too. So probably close to 25% of Canada's population would be ok with America taking over...
Biggest thing is the size allows for a much bigger battery; which means more capacity.

Nor should they because that tips off to the foreign states which of their actors has been compromised. By keeping it a secret all of them will be scrambling.
