It's so funny to see how macbooks are either super durable, or die from the smallest dust particles. My dad's macbook fell down 3 flights of stairs, and embedded itself into the wood floor boards at the bottom floor. There's not even a scratch on it even though if fell from pretty high up.

And my mother's macbook dies every year because dust ends up in between the display cable which then punctures it when the lid is closed

I usually shut those "I have nothing to hide" arguments by asking the person what's more creepy: you closing your curtains trying to get privacy, or your neighbor trying to peek in, asking you "why do you need curtains? You've got nothing to hide right?"

That usually gets the point across...

It's probably because homedepot doesn't respect gdpr, so they block European ip's to not get sued. I've experienced that a lot when visiting some American websites

So I've thought about making an inpainting tool for removing useless red circles from memes, but your idea might be better tbh.

Sigh...

A couple of years ago there were discussions on how stupid 20+tb harddrives were, mainly because they are so slow that the time it takes for files to transfer to a spinning disk was too long.

Let's say you have a good 20tb drive and it can transfer files at 200MB/s. To fill that drive, it'll take 1 day and 8 hours of continuous transfer. If it's failing, and you're trying to get as much off of it you're screwed.

Now let's think about that micro SD card. It's 4tb, and let's be gracious and give it a v90 speed class. That's 90MB/s. Looking at a calculation for the time it takes to fill it up, we're sitting at about 14h and 14 minutes. Worst part is that SD cards don't have SMART, meaning you don't know when they'll die.

From my experience, even good SD cards die in my raspberry pi running pihole, and the cards runs idle almost all the time.

Also there's this thing that the higher capacity a storage device gets, the more valueable the data stored on it becomes, not directly because it's high capacity, but because it's more trusted by the user.

Guys, gals and anyone in between, please get a proper storage solution, something that won't fail spontaneously. If you need that kind of capacity, go for a Nas with spare drives, or at least get an ssd.

/end rant

I was going on a walk and chose to take some photos of my local air traffic control radar. Also found this buddy, but couldn't take a good picture as i was being eaten alive by mosquitos :)

Both photos were taken on an old Nikon D5100 and edited in adobe photoshop. (adjusted the colors slightly)

Pro tip : if you're on an android phone, specifically a Samsung device, you can download an app called Sound Assistant by Good Lock Labs. Open it, and scroll down to the bottom setting called Multi sound and set it to the on position. That should disable the feature that pauses audio from a previous source when a new source appears, eg: music playing in the background gets paused by an autoplaying ad on a website

I'm on vacation in paris, so I thought why not take some photos. Also here's my obligatory eiffel tower pic:

Both are shot on my phone in RAW and then edited in lightroom mobile

I've seen these all over Europe. Some have simple images of the cross flashing, some have windows screensaver esque animations, and some have 3d renders of various things rotating in all sorts of ways. Why is that? Wouldn't a simple green cross be enough to get the point across, or do they need to be overly verbose? Here's the full video instead of a gif

Some years ago, I saw a neat photo collage centered around power lines by some artist, and thought it was a neat idea. Here's my attempt at making one using photos I've taken on my phone throughout the years. This was a project i did a while ago, and thought you might appreciate seeing, even if it's a bit jank in some spots. I wanted to share the before photo of the power lines, but can't find the original DNG file, nor the Photoshop project file. ~~I'll go for a walk to find the original spot i took the image at as proof :)~~

Found the rough spot I took the base picture in. Yes, I did remove the 2nd tower in the edit

Link to the site

The map contains exact locations of homocides from the 2000s to now. You can zoom in far enough to see the neighborhood the murder(s) happened in. I'm sorry that the site is primarily in Norwegian, but you should still be able to zoom around. Wonder of there's a global map that's that detailed.
