Old millennial here. Want to drink at home by yourself while I drink at home by myself?

[-] don@lemm.ee 15 points 3 months ago

Late xennial here, you’re a little late, but sure.

Beware of accounts promoting division between millennials & Gen Z. They’re trying to prevent a powerful political alliance.

[-] Sightline@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago

Thank you for calling that out. I've saw them do that on Reddit right after the election.

[-] canihasaccount@lemmy.world 68 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

The Gen Z bit is accurate, at least for current college students. I'm amazed at how little they do, how few relationships they have, etc. I actually feel quite bad for them.

[-] Devadander@lemmy.world 74 points 3 months ago

The kids aren’t alright

[-] gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de 44 points 3 months ago

I also feel quite bad for us.

[-] rambling_lunatic@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago

Older Gen Z here. Getting involved in community organising helps.

[-] newaccountwhodis@lemmy.ml 7 points 3 months ago

GenZ has fallen victim to car culture and commodification of literally everything. There are no places to go and many younger people never even knew different. Life's only affordable or respectable in the 'burbs where there's nothing to do and nowhere to go without a car. Meanwhile inner cities with intact structures are bulldozed for more car infrastructure or unusable because of traffic.

Everywhere people can go costs money. Even the internet is no commons any more, peer pressure pushes people into walled gardens where algorithms push brainrot.

You can't blame the people being affected by our literally unlivable world. It's been getting worse for some time now and in some aspects millennials had it worse than gen X who had it worse than the boomers. No single generation is to blame for losing the class war, however I hold every single person not fighting against the capitalist class accountable.

I don't want a fucken culture war between the generations like what happened with baby boomers. Gen X forward are all fine by me, live your life, be conscientious of other people and where they're at in life, and for shits sakes lets be open to changing our societies based on different generational challenges. The generational wars were always stoked by cynical conservative bread and circuses propaganda, fuck em, stop paying them attention.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 12 points 3 months ago

The shitheads writing the culture war articles and voting for Trump and his kind in greater numbers than the boomers are Gen X.

[-] Banana@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 months ago

And this is why my millennial D&D group invites zoomers to join us, no better way to bridge that gap!

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 months ago

In my experience Millenials are super inviting to Zoomers, but not the other way around. But that could just be because they are literally slightly more mature than Gen Z.

[-] djsoren19 9 points 3 months ago

I dunno if it's maturity or just...

Look I interact with a lotta kids, and they are not alright. If you told me a large number of zoomers literally did not know how to invite their friends to real life activities, I would believe you. I've spoken with a lot of Zoomers who are so socially awkward they don't seem to understand a spoken conversation. I feel like we have an obligation to invite them to stuff, just to show them that there is a world off the net that's worth living in.

I feel called out, somehow by both.

[-] klemptor@startrek.website 10 points 3 months ago

Me too, and I'm Gen X.

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 31 points 3 months ago

I've just spent my evening nit leaving the house drinking wine and playing hell let lose with nt wife sitting behind ne playing the sims.

That's peak millennial in my opinion

[-] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 months ago

I played on my Steam Deck while my SO watched some drama last night, and we ended the evening w/ my SO bawling into my shoulder about something emotional that happened, which I had no context for but still gave some emotional support for.

Seems pretty Millenial to me as well. 😀

Key point here: Millennials still make an effort to hang out, outside of the internet. Hoo boy that birth rate is really going to plummet. Lets see how well the capitalist's infinite growth system works when the next 3 generations are smaller then each other. How does retirement work for the proles?

[-] space_iio@sopuli.xyz 12 points 3 months ago

If you think capitalism is bad wait until you see what's coming next: neofeudalism

Extremely wealthy few who control everything. No more payment, you'll simply be a serf. No more owning, you won't own anything, all in your life will be leased.

In that world, you have kids because your told to, or else. Individual freedom? What are you a lord? A feudal master?

I don’t drink because I don’t wanna, and I don’t leave the house often because everything is too expensive. Home is nice and I have everything I need here. I’m basically a mid-40s zoomer I guess.

[-] rautapekoni@sopuli.xyz 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Same but also I don't have any friends to go out with anyway, to fill out the full requirement I guess.

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 months ago

Gen X here. When I get bored I go out to eat by myself. Without the drinking though. I’m lonely, not gonna lie.

Skip the alcohol and go to a modern laser tag arena with friends. Insanely fun. They somehow got the Halo 2/3 announcer over a massive intercom system, and they have similar games. Feels like a match from when we were kids!

[-] FelixCress@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

Skip the alcohol

No.

Meanwhile me, who is lonely to tears, yet drinks alone and consumes brainrot content at the same time while crying:

Not drinking is actually a very good life decision.

[-] peregrin5@lemm.ee 13 points 3 months ago

As a millennial I share these qualities with zoomers. I wish I had friends to go axe throwing with.

Y'know what? There are people in every generation causing clichés and also enough people ranting about others clichés. As long as it's in good humour, that's fine.

[-] JackbyDev@programming.dev 9 points 3 months ago
[-] Copythis@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

I was thinking the same thing lol.

Me and a couple buddies got motorcycles over the past year. We're literally going to go for a ride tomorrow, then meet at the local axe throwing range. I've been looking forward to it all week!

I'm kind of on the border between Gen Z and a millennial (1994) so I enjoy brainrot content but going out to go axe throwing or going to an escape room and having some drinks sounds amazing too. I wish I had friends to do that with :(
