Got a guy at work who gets frustrated when he has to repeat himself because someone was listening to something. Well guess what - even if I wasn't listening to something I'd be so far in my own head you'd have to repeat yourself anyway.

On the plane, I put on headphones without playing anything, just so people will not talk to me

[-] Marduk73@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 years ago

Added bonus if they are active noise cancelling. Really creates a nice quiet zone.

My autism creates an aura that people dare not enter. That and wearing a winter coat in summer

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Can I call you?"

"I have a question about this jira ticket"

Yay, good to see Zach cartoons have made it to Lemmy.

Or you could just... socialize 🤔

EDIT: Assuming it's two people who know each other already. Why would a stranger go up to you, to ask how's it going, when they don't know you at all?

[-] TimeSquirrel@kbin.social 61 points 2 years ago

You're the guy in the orange shirt, aren't you?

[-] kresten@feddit.dk 5 points 2 years ago

The guy asking about his day? Yes.

[-] HikingVet@lemmy.sdf.org 48 points 2 years ago

You are not owed interpersonal interaction because you want it.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 28 points 2 years ago

Or the other guy could just...leave him the fuck alone.

[-] rockerface@lemm.ee 19 points 2 years ago

I don't get paid for that

[-] crossal@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Why socialise?

[-] kresten@feddit.dk 3 points 2 years ago

If I recognize someone, then I'll ask them how's it going, either to be polite, or because I genuinely care about them

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

"Fuck whatever you are doing, I want to talk to you right now for not reason at all" is not a very polite message to pass.

If people make themselves uncomfortable just so they can clearly tell you that they do not want to talk to you... it may be because they don't want to talk to you.

[-] crossal@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

If someone has headphones on, you can wave, and if they take them off then greet them. If they have no headphones in, you can just greet them

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

If you are waving at people that clearly aren't in the mood for empty chatting, it's certainly because you have something important to say.

[-] crossal@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Someone with headphones on does not necessarily mean they wouldn't want to chat. And a wave doesn't necessarily mean the waver wants to chat either (I don't mean waving right next to someone to get their attention)

[-] kresten@feddit.dk 1 points 2 years ago

I completely agree with you, also with the wave and greet. 🤷‍♀️

[-] marx2k@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago

As soon as my job description is updated to professional chitchatter

[-] 2fat4that@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago

YOU just got my very first down arrow!

[-] marx2k@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Don't do it. It's not worth it!

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago
[-] kresten@feddit.dk 4 points 2 years ago

You both go on about your day after a polite exchange

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago

So basically exactly the same as if they left me alone? Except now I'm annoyed that I was interrupted for nothing?

[-] HikingVet@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 years ago

You can't let people be can you?

[-] kresten@feddit.dk 2 points 2 years ago

If I recognize someone I know, and I'm in a mood to chat, then no, probably not.

[-] HikingVet@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 years ago

And you don't understand how that may come off as assholish behaviour.

[-] kresten@feddit.dk 2 points 2 years ago

I have absolutely no idea at all. Completely blank. I'm not American, so it's most likely a difference in culture. Chatting to people I know, has always been a pleasant experience.

/I'm serious, I'm completely oblivious to how it's assholish behaviour to talk to people I know-

[-] explodicle@local106.com 2 points 2 years ago

I'm with you bro. After all that lockdown I'm never going to take it for granted again.

[-] Feirdro@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Nobody wants me to do that. You think you do, but you really don’t. One way or another someone’s getting their feelings hurt

[-] Wololo@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

This happened to me, but it was "have you heard of our lord and savior" rather than just a hi, so I was very pissed.

[-] Onionizer@geddit.social 7 points 2 years ago

"Yes, wanna meet him?"
