“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.” – Party slogan

Touching grass. It's important to remember that the entire world isn't online and the world isn't as dire as all of us chronically online doomers would have you believe. Things are chaotic-shift-in-the-status-quo bad, not civilization-ending bad.

The wheel turns, right now it's in a muddy rut and the people on the bottom (sexually active women, people of colors, and the queer community) are drowning, but all the little people on the outer edge are eventually in the dirt. Fuck the world, fuck the country, the people you have personal relationships with are the only thing that matters because all we have is each other.

Personally I have been trying to be more proactive, which has helped me have a sense of agency amidst the chaos. Everything I own fits in my car in case I need to leave quickly because of a climate disaster or the legalization of hunting trans people. I haven't bought a new thing (used, diy, or do without only) since lockdown because it's significantly cheaper and makes me feel like I'm doing my part to fight final form capitalism. I've also been exploring alternate ways to support myself and live that are more sustainable.

This is more to do with trans erasure and an attempt to denormalize transness. It's limited to schools because Republicans have been slowly destroying the education system in the US for decades in an effort to only allow christian mythology to be taught and any subjects that might question that or offer an alternative ethos eliminated.

Make no mistake, anti-trans legislation is not to protect cis people, it is to drive us (trans people) back in the closet and out of public life. It's clearly spelled out almost exactly like that in the Project 2025 document.

It also is the easiest in point for this sort of activism because the democrats have entirely abandoned trans people and many of them are also (quietly) transphobic. Just look at how many people blamed Trump's win on wokeness and identity politics and the entire "lgb without the t" movement.

Huh, weird. The menfolk have had kind of a loneliness problem for about 15 years...

There are a lot of factors at play that make transness an easy target to be the scary other bigots rally around.

The simple truth is that unless you yourself are trans you cannot understand the trans experience. There is no way to explain the scope or impact it has on someone's life. It's automatically alien and provides essentially a permanent out group. Anyone who is uncomfortable with people who are different or that have different experiences than themselves are almost certainly transphobic to some degree. Right now to the best of my knowledge transphobia is the only thing all hate groups share.

Trans people are the current scapegoats because prior to the pandemic we had an explosion of trans people feeling safe enough to come out online (I blame Obama making us all feel safe). They are particularly effective because both white nationalists and evangelicals use queerness as a scapegoat all the time anyway so it was easy for them to rally around. Which is why conservative politicians fearmonger around trans people.

It's not that simple, but it's close enough for a lemmy comment.

I'm not in denial, I'm scared shitless and heartbroken. You're probably right. That's probably it for American democracy and any hope trans people have of finding safety and acceptance in American Society in our lifetimes. But it hasn't happened yet.

We've already survived a Trump presidency once, we'll do it again, life's just going to suck more than it already has. I can't tell you how to live your apocalypse, I intend to get back in shape, see what parts of my life can be further downsized, and focus on growing my social support network to include as many other women, people of color, and queer folks as I can befriend.

This is probably one of the more tragic results of the mess we're in right now and there is no good solution. Not killing anyone would be ideal, but not enough people feel that way or we wouldn't be killing each other as much as we do.

You can't change a bigots heart unless they want to change. You could kill them, but what difference would there be between you and a bigot at that point? These kinds of problems take generations to sort out, which is unfortunate for all the dead southern queer people who will be murdered legally in the years to come.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but it's not true. All you're missing is self-confidence and self-worth. It may not feel like it, but you are worthy of love and validation. Love yourself because you are alive and trying.

It's not easy, especially if you've built up a lot of myths about how you're broken or unlovable. Find the things you like about yourself and go from there. All you have to do is keep trying.

I'd recommend trying it with a real conspiracy theorist, it's hilarious. It's basically the improv game "yes, and..."

Jeez, you don't need the gun. I would have come willingly if you'd mentioned the numbers stations. Watching some boring Netflix movie kinda sounded lame anyway. Here's an edible, where are your headphones?

Oh no, the guy who will say anything to get elected is saying something different than he used to. How dare he, the scoundrel.

I guess I'm more interested in who the target demo for this piece is. Like everyone who's going to care already has an opinion about him (for good or ill) is this a last straw effort to wear down his base? They live in an entirely different reality, if felony indictments, sex scandals, and the rest haven't been enough him suddenly supporting a popular and controversial app actually might help him with the base.

Is it red meat for the outrage masochists among Trump's opposition? If so, why not go for the juicer Russian psyop story that broke a few days ago about former trump staffers and alt right podcasters being paid by the kremlin to sow misinformation? That's much more outrageous if you're looking to get your rocks off about what Trump has done this time.

I am looking forward to the day the only thing people write about Trump is that he's still alive in Argentina or a look at how the Trump era changed us all.
