It depends what you mean. Individual instances have their own approach to moderation, which influences what you will see and have access to. Some are more hands off than others. But if your "free speech" is really just looking for a free pass to hate on folk, then you won't have much luck with lemmy. There are instances that allow that, but most other instances block them.

I've never been in love with nail polish. I've had my nails done twice since I transitioned nearly a decade ago. I don't love makeup either. I basically stopped wearing it around 5 years ago. I also don't have my ears pierced.

I'm still here, still doing fine, still being me.

You'll be ok :)

We are defederated, because hilariouschaos is the reborn version of exploding heads and wolfballs. It's toned down compared to them, but it's still the home to communities dedicated to Turning Point, and communities trying to replicate "The Donald" etc.

It's a factor, but not the whole story. Social norms also influence things a whole lot.

There is no tolerable amount of ads, because not only are they an awful experience, they explicitly drive user hostile growth and decisions in the future (ie enshitification).

I used to pay for YouTube to avoid ads, before I got sick of Google and refused to give them any more money. Now I use a pihole and a browser based adblocker, as well as 3rd party front ends, because fuck Google. I don't give a shit if I'm denying them income.

That's what I'm saying though. He dropped it, not because his mind was changed, not because he had suddenly become less transphobic, but because the people around him, who hadn't really thought about this much, suddenly had to think about it, and that social pushback forced the bigot to change course.

Being in a straight appearing relationship with a guy. I felt like my queerness was completely lost, and I hated the assumptions that people started making about me and the relationship.

Only openly queer relationships for me thank you!

like madlad, woosh, etc

I haven't used Reddit for years, and I have no idea about those terms. If they're a Reddit thing, I don't recognise them.

Lemmy is also less tolerant of debate bros.

So yeah, they're different

In my experience, ADHD meds make it easier to stay in task rather than getting distracted, but they don't make it any easier for me to actually start tasks!
