The deal thing is a smokescreen. The real reason he's upset is that he badly and urgently wants to end a war. It's the only chance in hell he'd ever get a Nobel peace prize, and in his delusional mind, he's still competing with Obama.

Riding is unaffected, it's only hang gliding that got removed. But it makes just as little sense in that context. None of this patent trolling is justifiable, Nintendo is just using the broken Japanese patent law system to crush competition from smaller companies making better games.

Evolution doesn't make deliberate, strategic choices. Random mutations result in new behaviors/properties that may or may not be beneficial, and selection removes those mutations that prevent reproduction from the gene pool. Not every mutation will be beneficial, but as long as it's not harmful enough to stop reproduction, it can persist.

If there were two groups of octopuses, one with the self-destructive behavior and one without, then there would be pressure from competition. In that situation, your point would have more of an impact. But without that pressure, there's nothing to drive the selection. And the mutation won't occur just because it would be helpful for it to do so - it's random.

At least, that's how I understand it. I'm not a biologist or anything.

Accuracy aside, I would love to see someone take this idea and turn it into a parody/remake from their perspective in the style of "Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle".

Yeah, the way I understand it, you're not actually a chaser unless you go around chasing people, regardless of what you're into. And just dating trans people wouldn't do it either, you'd have to be objectifying/using them. Correct me if I'm wrong.
