Califournia would be fine. The state has its problems but it's not a shit show like Florida

[-] perviouslyiner@lemm.ee 9 points 10 months ago

Suddenly 8 major ports in the country

[-] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

Probably great sailing in those bays.

[-] Landmammals@lemmy.world 25 points 10 months ago

If California were a country, it would be the 5th largest economy in the world. Califournia would be insane.

[-] akincisor@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

Imagine how many more houses you wouldn't be able to afford!

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

20th largest. Easy peasy.

[-] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago

If it were just created via simple copy-and-paste, Califournia would have a population of 159 million people, which would be just under half of the current population of the entire country.

If it remained all one state and were not split up, it would certainly turn into a case of the tail wagging the dog. Califournia would be able to split off into its own country with a population and economy rivaling that of the entire remaining 49 states.

If Califournia was a country, it would have the third highest GDP in the world, behind only the US and China.

If Flourida was a state, it would still only have a GDP about 10% higher than a single California

Take Oregon and Washington with you! The dream of Cascadia

[-] brown567@sh.itjust.works 15 points 10 months ago

I love it when maps of the USA just replace Canada and Mexico with ocean XD

[-] RogueBanana@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 months ago

There is only 1 land that matters, everything else may as well be just ocean

[-] Aliendelarge@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

We needed a lot of land for the additional Californias and Floridas. CA --> CA ya know.

[-] Moosely@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

I love that Califournia looks like its moving fast because of the length of text on the map

[-] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 5 points 10 months ago

Like it's winding up to slap Hawaii

[-] Silverseren@kbin.social 8 points 10 months ago

So, in the former, we'd have a massive population increase, but also a massive increase in overall tech manufacturing and output. In the latter, we'd have way more old people, but four Disney Worlds.

[-] ivanafterall@kbin.social 4 points 10 months ago

Dare I say: Mar a Lago x 4

[-] GentlemanLoser@ttrpg.network 1 points 10 months ago

Four Epcot food and drink festivals!

[-] Blackout@kbin.social 6 points 10 months ago

1 Florida is too much

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Either would displace too much seawater and damage coastal developments across the globe

[-] superduperenigma@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Yeah but look at all that NEW coastline just waiting to get developed to hell and back!

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Would you have four penises? I'd have four penises.

[-] Rubanski@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

Uh oh, North and South Dekota

[-] pezmaker@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

Yikes. Both are terrifying
