on this note: we recall reading that some nikon lenses will mount onto these old kiev rangefinders! it may not be true and that one ukrainian forum was wrong but maybe give it a try :)

You're going to run into compatibility issues trying that. Its doable for sure but you'll probably have to shoot full manual which is not fun on a modern camera. I've done enough mixing of equipmemt from different eras to learn its really not worth the effort and annoyance.

When using an old F mount lens that has no electronics a modern camera assumes you have no lens at all. Manual shooting only. No light metering, no focus assist, you're entirely on your own.

You can do it, and its worth doing if its what you need to do get a special picture, but its not fun.

I have 4 lenses 2 of them modern mirrorless lenses, the other two are AF 35mm film lenses. Im trying to source an adapter to use the old ones on my modern cams, cause thats cool. Unfortunately the z6 came body only, so i have no full frame lenses for it. Want to get that next, but an adapter will work for now to use the old stuff lol

Nikon lenses:

AF nikkor 80-200/4.5-5.6

AF nikkor 35-80/4-5.6

DX 50-250/4.5-6.3

DX 16-50/3.5-6.3

I want a 28mm full frame lens next. Then i want the 28-400mm(!!!!!) Full frame lens nikon makes, what a range lol

I basically only have prime lenses. I have a 28mm, a 50mm, 135mm that needs work, and I intend to get a 300mm in a few months probably. I love old manual focus lenses. They feel so nice to use.

which cheap solid 110 and 16 can you recommend for me? i was last in photo class in 86. i know camera basics but need a film camera now. also, since ama, do you play with any skill toys? like yoyo or juggling?

A cheap solid 110 im not sure of, is a form factor i dont personally own, so cant really speak to deals

110 and 16 film is gonna be tougher to find honestly, but there 35mm film cams on ebay all day. Fairly cheap too, you can get the n60 i have for around 40-50$

Im lucky enough to live somewhere where developing film is no challenge, but thats also a consideration

I fidget more than i actually play with things, like twirling pens and stuff. Always wanted to learn juggling tho, maybe ill try cant be that hard lol ❤️❤️

juggling is indeed easy to pick up if you hang around yoyoers, throwers, you'll pick that up too. easy. both are hard to gain expertise with, like skateboarding, but its not difficult to play. camera folks often love the machines that are modern yoyos. thanks for the n60 recommendation. affordable!

I was going to ask about film because that's the only real reason I don't use my analog cameras. Half tempted to spring for a diy kit and develop them at home just to help make sure the medium stays alive

Absolutely can do that! Thats a whole rabbit hole im looking down myself honestly 😅

From what ive heard, B&W is easier to handle so most guides say to start there. Color film is more easily reactive, and if the chemicals temperature fluctuates it can have huge effect on pictures.

I definitely wanna start developing my own too, but theres no shame in getting them developed to start with. Walgreens still develops film, its just mail order now. Most places are mail now, which makes it more convenient if you dont have a place to go but also a bit more expensive❤️❤️

Edit: havent done it yet, but place near me still develops film in house with a 24hr turnaround time and only for 5$, atleast according to the website! Cant wait to go there lol

That's about where I'm at with it. Nowhere conveniently close that'll do it for cheaper than Walgreens. The only real thing stopping me is the understanding that I've already got too many projects going that I need to finish. Such is the ADHD life of chasing dopamine

That said, I did dabble in cyanotype and if I do pick up film developing, I'm totally going to combine the two

It's a printing technique that uses photosensitive chemicals and the sun to create images. The final result is a ghostly blue image that people have done really cool things with. Generally you'll see flowers or collages using semi transparent items. Fairly cheap to get into and mess with

I go to a community film studio and it costs $12 ish to diy develop one batch of film. If you have 8 rolls you can put them all in one big tank and dev and scan them all for $12.

B&W is easier to start because it is developed at room temperature. Color needs precise temperature control. The studio has a special sink and the chemincals in a waterbath sousvide machine for color.

Film is fun I like film!
