This is EA we are talking about, I'm not sure how much worse the Saudi ownership can make it.

[-] tetris11@feddit.uk 6 points 1 hour ago

Reminds me of that Ricky Gervais golden globes roast, where he looks at the actors in the face and says something like "half of you would happily work for Al Qaeda if your production company demanded it"

[-] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

In 5 years someone will publish an article about how the representation of minorities in EA games fell off a cliff starting this year.

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 hours ago

so leave. let shitty and/or immoral people join up. it's not going to get better — why are you still there?

Then fucking quit?

Better yet, form a union and wreck their little purchase.

[-] West_of_West@piefed.social 18 points 5 hours ago

Saudi: "Hey you know that part in Mass Effect where you punch a reporter? Can you expand that to a whole game?"

[-] cheat700000007@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

In fact take it further and cut em up

[-] FilthyHands@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 hour ago

BONESAW IS READY

[-] nullspace@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Doing the big racist speech to your crew about humans being alone, but without all the awkward cuts to your non-human crew members.

[-] dylanTheDeveloper@lemmy.world 13 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

"Hey remember Tali in Mass Effect? Yeah make all the women dress like that"

[-] dylanTheDeveloper@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

EA gonna be paying the Meta tax soon so atleast people will get a pay bump while they work at Evil Arts unless they were brought just for the IP's, then nobody gonna work there soon.

[-] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 55 points 13 hours ago

EA has been dead for over a decade honestly. With the new Saudi owners they are just being turned into a zombie.

[-] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 25 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Holy shit you aren't kidding!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Electronic_Arts_games:_2020%E2%80%93present

I'm looking at the releases and honestly none of those games are Day 1 must buy for me.

I think the Saudis bought it for the sports games. And those games are pretty cookie cutter and they sell well thanks to the chuds.

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 3 points 2 hours ago

Everything is just a remake of something good from 20 years ago, an expansion pack for The Sims, or a sports game. Although in slight fantas to them Star wars squadrons actually was good. I think the leadership forgot about that that one because it never even had micro transactions or loot boxes or anything.

[-] datavoid@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

If you like strategic fps, Battlefield has always been the best game in my eyes. I bought it right before news of the purchase came out... Let's just say I wasn't impressed. Fuck the saudis, but Kushner is the real ghoul.

Also skate doesn't exactly have any competitors. I have always loved skate, and would consider the new one quite enjoyable (if its code wasn't 50% computer-crashing kernel level nonsense).

[-] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 5 points 10 hours ago

Most of it seems to be remasters, sequels and EA Sports Game .

[-] orenj@leminal.space 39 points 13 hours ago

Isn't EA mathematically doomed to die off due to the absurd amount of profit they need to pay off the debt the saudis put on them so that they could own them? Like, who cares about actually working there, you're as good as already laid off. The sword of damocles is swinging.

[-] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 8 points 6 hours ago

A tale as old as time. Hedge fund buys a company. Company has too much debt from the buyout. Hedge fund strips out assets of the company. Company dies.

[-] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 hours ago

I think the sword of damocles more dangles menacingly than swings.

The pendulum in The Pit and the Pendulum is the sharp object that swings.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 24 points 15 hours ago

I mean, you were working for ea

[-] mriormro@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 hours ago

You dorks are so funny. Guess there’s no worker solidarity when it comes to your stupid games.

[-] Malyca@lemmy.zip 1 points 19 minutes ago

It was just a joke, I have family friends fired from the FIFA games. It's good to laugh once in a while, especially at yourself.

[-] drmoose@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago

EA was relatively progressive no? You can disagree with their market strategy but it was a liberal, western company.

[-] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)
[-] khaleer@sopuli.xyz 7 points 10 hours ago

Even "baiting with progressiveness for profit" matches the pattern of western company.

[-] drmoose@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

Good for profit is still good, no? Now you got no good for profit - which seems much worse.

[-] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 52 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Despite assurances from management, some workers believe the company will be subject to censorship by its new owners.

Assurances from anyone with an MBA are worth less than nothing. They are professional liars. They pretend they aren't with the bullshit "optimism isn't lies", except it absolutely is when you KNOW your optimistic interpretation is bullshit. It's like that Dr. Nick bit.

Dr. Nick: "With my diet, you can eat anything you want, any time you want!"

Marge: "And you'll lose weight?"

Dr. Nick: "You might! It's a free country!"

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago

Assurances from anyone with an MBA

What about assurances from MBS?

[-] treesapx@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago

If it benefits the company to lie about impending layoffs, then management will lie. It's baffling how many people have difficulty with this concept.

[-] TBi@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

I don’t know why you got downvoted. This is a valid point.

It’s almost as if people who will “toe the line” are more likely to get promoted to management. Until the leopards come for them as well.

[-] Davel23@fedia.io 93 points 19 hours ago

When has EA ever been in alignment with progressive society?

[-] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 22 points 16 hours ago

They’re in alignment with a sense of pride and accomplishment, I guess?

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 49 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

June 1st to June 30th. They highlight the lipsevice to LGBT stuff in dragon age

[-] UpAndAtThem@lemmy.world 37 points 18 hours ago

I've been 'fuck EA' for a long time, but this buyout has guaranteed I'll never touch another of their games again under any circumstances.

[-] GolfFoxtrotLima@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, I will stop buying, will continue boycotting and avoiding ea games
