I'm guessing there's just so much money (and power) in that kind of thing that it's simply here to stay.

We have a rather extreme voter apathy epidemic combined with the resultant diarchy, where the main objective is not solving problems, but ensuring the top two dogs are always on top followed by winning the next election against the other team.

You wrongfully assert 100% of Americans don't care and don't do anything; it's more that a large enough percentage of Americans don't care and don't do anything such that the powers that be know they can do whatever awful thing they want to do for their donors.

Which one is the guy who announced we're going to pave over Palestine to open a resort?

Did you think he was going to give the Palestinians American visas and comp their moving fees?

Evidently the sentiment isn't having a wide enough reach, as people are crawling into their echo chambers to avoid not having to deal with the fallout of their apathy, handing elections over to the nasties.

Not everyone was German/Italian/Japanese in the 1930s-40s either. Pretty sure those countries still affected others, though.

"No politics please" sounds like a great rule until the results of politics kick down your door and black bag you.

Fighting to remove as many posts as possible on Lemmy when we barely get any posts at all doesn't make sense; ignore the people requesting you take a popular post down for some potential technicality.

Democrats are just as racist as the Republicans

No way.

There's a massive difference between being proud of being actively racist (MAGA), defiantly believing it's not possible to be racist in 2026 because MLK ended racism (garden variety Republicans), forgetting about certain invasions and genocides based on (social) media coverage (which is based on expected viewership for ad revenue, which is based on skin color) (garden variety Democrats), and someone who I would describe as generally "not racist," i.e. you, I assume if for no other reason than expedience of this discussion.

Pretending all three of the other groups are identical is not productive, intellectually dishonest, and makes fighting or educating them harder.

I reserve the right to feel guilty, embarrassed, sad, etc. for inappropriate reasons in much the same way I reserve the right to feel positive emotions for similarly nonsensical reasons, but I appreciate the logic of it and you for dispensing it.

Unrelated but is there a way to convert someone else's instance+community link to your own?

Obviously not faulting you for this, but when I click on your link I get taken to lemmy.zip, where I do not have an account so I cannot participate. I spent some time manually searching for that community on my own instance, which of course is a bit annoying for newbies and I would think there is a way around that I haven't found yet.

Until now I honestly thought I'd have to host an Instance to create a Community, for some reason. Now I'm a bit embarrassed.

Thank you.

Edit for visibility:

This answer is the direction I chose to go in, mainly for simplicity's sake.

If the fediverse gods are watching, it might be worth considering automatically making communities associated with people's usernames. Maybe reserved automatically, but invisible unless you opt-in? That way nobody can create harassment communities targeting your username on your home instance. Just a thought.

Seems like a good community ~~but sadly doesn't fit my use-case for reasons I haven't yet stated.~~

Thank you for the referral ~~, though~~.

After poking around it does actually seem relevant, though it's always against my nature to try to grab someone else's limelight.

Yes, but definitely not proper form, as my left hand rests on WASD+CTRL/Shift+Space.

I'm around 100 wpm, so maybe it doesn't matter.

While I completely understand people who can't get to 100 wpm (much like people at 110+ completely understand me), I cannot fathom young adults who cannot touch-type (barring disability, obviously).

30

I can't find any specific Yes / No via search and my understanding is that's not really possible due to how federated websites work, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can give me a straight answer.

I had something I wanted to post that wasn't very relevant to any particular community, but more specific to me, kinda like a blog post.
