The administration argues that relying on imported metals could reduce demand for American-made materials, leaving the US with less domestic production and fewer critical supplies in the event of a national emergency.

And because brass instruments are made mostly from copper and zinc, they have been swept into the same net as fire extinguishers, floor safes, electrical cables, welding-machine parts, and tanker trailers.

He's paranoid someone will hide a gun in one. He's lived most of his adult life afraid and the older he gets, the more afraid he is. It's the same reason he eats fast food. He thinks it would be harder to poison him that way.

trump does something stupid film at 11.

Goldfinger have been real silent since this dropped

[-] Mk23simp 1 points 6 days ago

To be fair, I do see a potential point to this. After all, cartridge cases are made of brass, so if the domestic supply of brass is too low, that could actually be an issue in a war.

[-] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 78 points 1 week ago

the tariffs that, again, the courts already ruled were unconstitutional. Trump doesn't have the authority to levy taxes/tariffs. And yet, he keeps ordering tariffs around for bullshit national security reasons.

[-] CaptainMan251@lemmy.world 46 points 1 week ago

I cannot understand why Trump just says "Do these things that break the law" and everyone just fucking does it.

I was actually shocked that he didn't just coerce everyone into halting birthright citizenship

[-] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

I mean, didnt he? He just put out an executive order to attack birthright citizenship immediately after and in response to the supreme court upholding that its a constitutional right. He doesnt give af what courts say, or the law says.

Because all the pedo-enablers are currently in power because they entertain the pedo president, specifically. Hence they do whatever he says because that's how they stay in power. You can see from some recent movement in the Reps that they do know they need to offboard at the right moment, and they're starting to prepare for that, but right now it's how they stay in power.

And, it adds that since Trump is constantly extracting the money of american taxpayers for his personal wealth via the control the presidency gives him, this system enables Republicans to largely get away with the same thing, hence they probably not only gain power but also massive wealth from it.

[-] DomeGuy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

The POTUS has no power to levy taxes without an act of congress.

There are a bunch of acts of.congress that give discretionary power to the POTUS for certain specific taxes in response to certain international actions.

Here's a plausible sounding website found from a quick web search.

There's a particular trumpet sound that describes this situation perfectly

A national security threat created by Republicans decades ago by ~~allowing~~ encouraging the export of American jobs to foreign countries in order for corporations to take the lazy path towards improving profits via slave labor freely available in other countries.

The entire GOP establishment and their corporate benefactors sold out our futures for a quick and easy profit. They should be held criminally responsible for destroying this country for their own gain.

[-] luthis@lemmy.nz 6 points 1 week ago

I doubt they will ever be held criminally responsible, but perhaps you could hold them gravitationally responsible? Maybe by dropping them off a building?

[-] Melobol@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

Who would hold them responsible? They won't even publish documents thats even steps before actually getting accused and prosecuted and punished?
The kid rapist elite has nothing to be afraid of. The DOJ has no power over them, while genuine US citizens are getting executed in daylight on the streets and human beings are held in worst condition than cattle.

Sorry there's just not enough time in our 24-hour news cycle to cover the pedophile ring holding the richest country in the world hostage. We have to run these stories about Fauci. Then we have to cover every stupid fucking thing Donald Trump says but NOT the fact that he rapes kids

Article on this from Reason Magazine, the only major-ish outlet that's reported on this so far. In fact, it looks like they originated this story: https://reason.com/2026/08/05/trumps-newest-tariffs-could-protect-america-from-the-national-security-risk-of-brass-instruments/

It's not every day that ClassicFM gets to report on issues of national security.

leaving the US with less domestic production

You’re about 40 years late on that one. I know MAGA is just rich people living out their “what the Gipper should’ve done!” fantasy, but you can’t just try and pick up where he left off.

On the plus side, RFK Jr said eating aluminium foil is perfectly healthy. He even offered to teach some abdominal exercises that can help roll the foil around the roadkill in your gut, to help keep it unfresh between digestion cycles, which are totally a thing, too.

Brass Against is a rock+brass band that started doing covers of Rage Against The Machine, they also cover other rock and metal acts. Pretty cool.

[-] kamen@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Yeah, I thought of them, wasn't sure about the name. Shortened like this it could also be a reference to Rise Against.

Trump watched Eagle Eye and thinks Zuckerberg is going to try to assassinate him with a brass band.

God, the ending of that movie was so awful.

They should have realized that the targets were a threat, and imprisoned the war criminals. Instead, they shoved the Intel under the rug and let the criminals continue to run the country. Smh.

You can not make this up. The next person stating that this or that plot line or twist does not make sense needs to stop for a moment, take a deep breath and have a sip of water.

I am waiting for a real life deus ex machina moment next.

Does Trump have any brass instrument investments? This feels like an episode of The Goon Show... (In "Lurgi Strikes Britain", the fictional Lurgi/Lurgy illness is used to boost sales of brass band instruments, which supposedly protect against the disease.)

[-] sfbing@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

John Paulson, a major Trump supporter, has an investment firm that owns musical instrument manufacturer Conn-Selmer. Probably just mere coincidence.

[-] derfunkatron@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Which makes little sense because Conn-Selmer doesn’t just manufacture brass instruments and saxophones, they also exclusively import a lot of the European and Asian “alternatives” (i.e. illusions of choice). The Selmer (not Selmer (USA)) part of Conn-Selmer are made in France and like half of the other brands are Chinese or Japanese.

I mean, regardless of what happens, Conn-Selmer has a practical monopoly, but even though Conn-Selmer does manufacture in the US, they probably still rely on importing metals, right?

[-] biofaust@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Mmm what about gym equipment?

[-] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

What about it? The country is in the vast middle of an obesity epidemic.

[-] biofaust@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

I meant does this touch gym equipment as well since iron and other metals may be imported?
