Been meaning to play skong. I have heard it can be frusteratingly difficult but also i thought that about the first game until i played it again and it felt easy.

It's hard... But like so good tho

[-] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

The first one is a LOT easier. There’s a nice tutorial and it builds on itself. The tutorial for silksong is hollow knight. It’s made to be hard. They did update it to be a little easier a few weeks after launch though.

I keep not finishing the first one.

I just really, really hate the corpse run bullshit. Every time I die, I'm forced to trek back to the exact spot I died before doing anything else, which is a stupid mechanic for a game that's about exploration and discovery.

I know it's a masterpiece and all, and I'm glad it's sucessful, but that mechanic just annoyed me too much, and I spend half the time just stewing over how much I hate that aspect. I realize after a few hours that the frustration over it, even if it's overblown, keeps me from enjoying the game.

I'm glad other people love it.

Maybe you should try dying less

[-] BedbugCutlefish@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

I don't really mind it. But I do agree that it just... Doesn't feel necessary. Mina the Hollower was another game I overall liked, where the soul dropping mechanic was just, superfluous

Yeah that's part of what made me quit the initial time i played it. The second time years later it just didn't bother me as much. I was also dying a lot less too since I knew many enemy patterns already and had gotten better at platformers.

I felt the same way. However I put down the controller and walked away from Silksong much earlier than I anticipated, earlier than Hollow Knight. Gonna have to give it a go from where I left off, which is before the end of Chapter 1.

It does get easier on replay, even if you didn’t get very far. Restarting makes you realize how many of the game mechanics that you picked up and it makes it easier to progress. Completely understandable if you don’t have the time to commit to perfectly executing diagonal pogos until you can get the Hollow Knight adjacent crest.

im very out of the loop on these games. whats so trans about them?

[-] emeralddawn45@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 5 hours ago

This is me just riffing off of trans memes that I've seen online, and the fact that apparently I have a very (egg) state of mind naturally, but it seems to me that trans people really resonate with games that are all about overcoming extreme challenges, in which the player character gradually builds more experience and capabilities and undergoes a transformation of sorts in which you unlock capabilities that don't necessarily make the game easier, but increase the scope of what you're capable of and gives you more tools to work with. Also stories that deal with themes of loneliness, belonging, finding your place in the world, building up allies who can aid you in your struggle. Games like Celeste and silksong are kind of like riffs on the hero's Journey, where the main character becomes who they were always meant to be through a long struggle and a process that's a combination of determination, trial and error, and fate.

Thank you so much for explaining this. Like, fr. I couldn't figure out why all of us seem to have the same set of favourite games (well, except Celeste, of course; that one's obvious).

[-] thoughtfuldragon 1 points 2 hours ago

Celeste is also about those themes

[-] strawberry_enjoyer42 1 points 2 hours ago

It is, I meant it's the only one of those games that I knew why so many of us like it.

The lead programmer. ^/s^

More seriously in the first one you fight the silksong, then in the second you become the silksong.
