Once marriage is viewed as an equal partnership there is no structurally distinct role for men and women.

Therefore a man could just as easily fill the wife role and a woman the husband role. So why limit marriage to man and woman? Man and man or woman and woman is equally valid structurally

If men and women are interchangeable and replaceable what function does gender have in a society?

Who's to say anyone can't be any gender they want to be?

This is the roadmap to societal destruction that monogamy-only causes

We were so close!

Holy shit, this meme template was invented for this insane post.

Therefore a man could just as easily fill the wife role and a woman the husband role.

One of my wife's only regrets in our marriage is that she doesn't make enough to allow me to be a full time house husband. I guarantee I'm traditionally more masculine than all of these chuds. I would also love nothing more than to keep the house clean, cook, keep up the garden, finish remodeling the house, and pamper my beautiful wife. I unfortunately am just the main breadwinner, and we wouldn't be very comfortable without my salary.

I just never got how some dudes are just so fixated on their jobs being their entire identity, going as far as to base their masculinity on having a 9-5.

I actually thought this was a god tier shitpost until I realized this is unironic

[-] andros_rex@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

Pretty much every time I open Facebook, I am getting at least one post that is unironically advocating for biblical polygamy. Usually with shitty AI comics.

With how rapidly the U.S. is turning into the Handmaid’s Tale, it feels like this is a botted attempt to shift the Overton window into deeper christofascism.

biblical polygamy

TIL, I had no idea this was a thing. wow.

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

It's polygamy for one gender only.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

sounds mormon to me lol. wait is that considered biblical even though they have their own fanfic?

[-] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

More specific would be "historical polygamy from Biblical times." Like, "kings and stuff did it back then."

Anybody who thinks that means the Bible is for this need only look at the actual Biblical accounts of the many kings therein: Occasionally wise, fatally flawed, ultimately lonely and empty despite having the world of men in their hand.

It is not the role of man, to rule over other men (or women).

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

man I wish we could all just leave the abrahamic fanfic fights behind the species.

[-] nickiwest@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

According to the Bible, King Solomon (the wise king) had 700 wives and 300 concubines.

His father, David (the one who killed Goliath), had 8 wives that are mentioned in the text.

So "Biblical marriage" could be monogamy (like Mary and Joseph) or a wide variety of polygamous options. Either way, the most important part is that women must be faithful to only one husband.

[-] RoquetteQueen@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago

I'm not convinced it's serious. That last sentence sounds like a joke.

[-] Signtist@bookwyr.me 80 points 1 month ago

I've never seen someone get so close to realizing that gender is a meaningless social construct while still being on the complete opposite side of the map. This person would be perfectly set up for the ultimate full-court shot if they'd ever actually reassess their preconceived beliefs.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

theres a sub for that, selfawarewolves, basically its when the OOP are almost selfaware.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago

Is there a more frightened creature on the face of this planet than American conservatives?

[-] historicaldocuments@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

It's not fear, it's a mindset that starts with the idea that what they personally want is how the world ought to work. People don't generally make public arguments that go against their own self interest. Dudebro from the OP's screengrabs obviously has his sights set on multiple women, so he's going to say whatever dumb shit that can drag that mindset into whatever group he considers himself to be a part of.

Or it's satire and this is Poe's law in action. Dude should've had a winky.

Don't feed the drama. It only makes it grow. There are bigger fish to fry.

[-] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Ok who's trying to convince their wife of an open relationship? I hope they know the men usually don't get with as many other partners as the women do. And then they get butthurt their wife is sleeping with other people even tho it was their idea in the first place.

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 month ago

They don't want an open relationship. What they want is a relationship like the kings in the Bible had: one husband with multiple wives. The men get to be polygamous, but the women are still monogamous.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

they want trad wives, and brood mares.

[-] JackbyDev@programming.dev 6 points 1 month ago

Well, based on what this post is saying, they aren't trying to convince their wives to be in an open relationship, they're trying to pursue polygamy. It says "if you limit men to only one wife," it doesn't say "if you limit people to one spouse." They want it one sided.

[-] andros_rex@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

These are the type that would believe in killing a woman for having sex with multiple men. Not something they would say out loud yet, but they view marriage as a husband-master/wife-slave thing.

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 9 points 1 month ago

Theologically speaking, he's not wrong:

[-] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 month ago

Except all of those examples are from the Old Testament, which most Christians tend to pick and choose from, largely believing that it's effectively been wiped away by the New Testament. They treat it mostly as historical text about the lead up to Jesus's arrival, generally not as any active set of laws or rules. But it is very much a pick and choose source of hypocrisy for what different Christians consider as "still counting". Tons of examples like this to garbage person using it to justify their bullshit.

Also worth noting that the Christian Old Testament is from the same source text as the Jewish Tanakh, except that Jewish interpretations/translations are based off older material/translations closer to the original "source" text where Christian ones tend to be based off early translations into languages like Greek and Latin, and the Christian take on it reorganizes it roughly chronologically.

All this to say, most Christians see this shit as the horrid backwards ancient shit it is, and these examples are mostly present in Jewish canon as well despite the ever present edgy internet atheist brigade's hyperfixation with exclusively taking on Christianity.

Still awful, still worth calling out, but being more informed helps everyone make better criticisms.

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 13 points 1 month ago

largely believing that it’s effectively been wiped away by the New Testament

Until you ask them about gay people, and then they love to bring out some Old Testament verses...

Nah. You don't get to say "this is my infallible holy book that is never wrong" and then clarify that half of it doesn't count ... unless you want it to count.

[-] hdsrob@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

And trying to put the 10 commandments every fucking place.

[-] gandalf_der_12te@feddit.org 9 points 1 month ago

gold-tier shitpost. i'm gonna spam this all over the place next time somebody brings up monogamy.

[-] Reborn_Mormon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

As someone that identifies as a Mormon now after a fantastic ritualistic shaming session after being invited to a Mormon church because the neighborhood has noticed I'm drinking again, I must say I am offended by the dual implications of this post.

On one hand, I believe in polyamory. People are not possessions and we should love each other equally to form polycules of all gender combinations and permutations to achieve what Jesus Christ gave his life to give us. On the other hand, I feel that if I could not get on my knees to love some black men and bring them into the Mormon Church, then I have failed our prophet, Joseph Smith.

While I'm aware how this may seem funny satire, I am 100% serious. I am forming Mormon Occultism and teaching this as what our Father wanted us to be on this Earth, and I guarantee my congregation will be more diverse than the one I was shamed at. Wonderful people though. Don't know the sword they're wielding, being in semblance dharma. They ain't The Sound of Gravel, but they ain't all there in the Jesus department. So, I'll be as audacious as our lord was.

Speaking as an ex-Mormon? Dude, you need therapy.

[-] Reborn_Mormon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Speaking as someone who gets continuously harassed by the intolerant, prejudiced members of society because I am different than them, stop calling me a n*gger, please and thank you. I love you. I'm by default subhuman in your eyes. Your default response to me is, as I've heard it a thousand, billion times before, because I'm a disabled person:

"Dude, respectfully, you are an inferior, subhuman mongrel that is upsetting me in my doomscrolling. Please take the medicication you're already taking and go see professional who won't meet woth you because the medical industry believes cutting you off from therapy is best for you. I don't care about your specific suffering, you make my experience on social media worse, therefore I, like thousands and billions of others, are going to make your experience worse by goading you into submission."

Like, fuck you. Just straight up fuck you. You are the billionth person to say I'm an inferior human being because I'm schizoaffective n autistic with PTSD. I'm ALWAYS a n*gger in YOUR eyes, by how you treat me.

ALL of you idolaters say the same things. Devoid of actual love. I'm a problem in your eyes, BY DEFAULT. Meet me halfway here. What does that look like to you? I want to see what you think "meeting me halfway" is.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

You're the only one calling yourself that.

You're just a projection machine on overload. Dude, seek therapy please.

[-] Reborn_Mormon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I was raised in the church. I read church history for years, and spent my entire childhood having the dogma and apologia drilled into me until I could recite entire passages from rote memory. Every argument and counterargument. Every reason to never question the ones in charge.

It was never about horses, elephants, steel bows, and stones in hats. It was never about Smith's running list of legal problems and narcissism. It was never about Brigham Young giving a very enthusiastic green light on ethnic cleansing and genocide.

It was always about defending the lie that all of that was true, that all of it was done with good intent. That all of it was sanctioned by God himself by his living mouthpiece.

It was always about money, control, and keeping people in line. And you deserve so much better than to be exploited like that. You deserve to be happy.

[-] Reborn_Mormon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I was raised secularly and wound up having a breakdown in college where I told my ROTC cadre that my nonexistent sister got me pregnant because I judged my father's wrath more of a threat than the US military.

If I had a spiritual community, all would have been well in my life.

I went to a Mormon church recently. I had an experience similar to the main character in Office Space watching the therapist having a heart attack in front of him has, where they showed they cared but half-assed it, fumbling the ball completely, and it made me realize, when they tried shaming me and cross-talking me, that this was LITERALLY the best they can do.

They were/are in Semblance Dharma. This is a term from Mahayana Buddhism, along with True and Degenerate Dharma. The Sound of Gravel is Degenerate Dharma; a preacher preaching hate has lost Jesus from Jesus' spiritual teachings. Semblance Dharma gets the surface of truth, but True Dharma is able to replicate the depth of wisdom contained in a great teacher's pedagogy.

Buddhism likewise has been subject to decay, y'see? But the church I went to did so much right. I think it wiser to fix what is broken than to start anew, now. I already have my "cult," which is my educational art project. I teach philosophy, spirituality, and mental health skills to help people heal and self-actualize. Now I realize I must be the founder of Mormon Occultism to be the left hand of God - while the right hand leads the flock on the path, the left hand goes into the tall grass and helps those who are very lost - and I believe this will fix all that you know in your heart is wrong.

[-] SunshineJogger@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago

Those things shown aren't even directly related.

This world is too full of people who don't bother to train or use their brains appropriately

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 3 points 1 month ago

Wait... Someone actually posted this unironically?

[-] olenkoVD@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

The three first paragraphs are actually correct and thought out. I'm surprised they got this far but then finally concluded that this is the "destruction of society".

[-] SayJess 2 points 1 month ago
[-] arcine@jlai.lu 1 points 1 month ago

Monogamy is indeed destructive, but polygyny is even worse. We want true unrestricted polygamy, and the end of marriage, in any form.
