well, the people did vote for the Democratic successor. and then the Republican-controlled Supreme Court butted in and said "actually you're not allowed to check the results of how the people voted, we declare our guy won"

While the 2000 election was undeniably stolen, it's kinda hard to argue the people voted for Gore. The reason the Supreme Court was able to declare Bush the winner was because the election was close enough to be decided by a single state. Gore only ended up receiving like 50k votes total more than Bush. The meme is still accurate and Americans are still generally idiots.

I mean, by your very own definition, people DID vote for Gore. It wouldn't have been an overwhelming victory by any means, but they did indeed vote for him

ig but the meme is about Americans voting against their best interests, and the point is that a majority of them did in enough of the country such that the election came down to a single state.

It's just wild to see people always putting 100% of the blame on the SC and not realizing Americans are also just really incredibly awful at selecting their leaders. In a sane and just world, the 2000 election would not have even been close.

Entirely valid reasoning, I see your point now

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 day ago

I mean Gore did win.

[-] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

But Gore was boring! And Dubya was entertaining!

“I could see myself having a beer with this guy!”

We never would've gotten the shoe "terrorist" with Gore

Why settle for a campfire, when you could have a wildfire?

How many countries could or does this apply to?

How many countries have a Republican party?

Name two besides the US.

I can only find the Dominican Republic.

[-] MohamedMoney@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Germany, Chile.

But tbh I thought we talked about the political story told in the meme, not about the exact name.

Brazil has a "Republicanos" (lit. Republicans), which used to be Republican Party until a few years ago. The party is more or less controlled by the Universal Church (Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus, IURD), a massive criminal organization that scams people out of their belongings and somehow still passes as "religion".

I have no idea.

I'm guessing a high percentage.
