It's winding down because Putin is considering pleading for peace soon. Ukraines infrastructure hits are getting more and more costly.

Putin needs 5 or 6 years to rebuild his arsenal for his next invasion. Unless he loses and is deposed, any peace treaty is just a delay to recover until the next attack.

That sounds about right. Every single "ceasefire" has was just a ploy to reposition troops and try to hit Ukraine harder. He better call for peace and leave, otherwise there can't be "peace". If they do agree on peace, it'll still be disastrous for Russia though, because Ukraine will immediately join NATO and the EU.

Interesting it's coming from Putin. What does this mean? Is it a lie, or is it Russia noticing an opportunity to sell more oil? Maybe Putin thinks if he stops the war, other countries will be open to trading with him again. Considering the economic situation in Russia is supposedly not good, Trump may have done Putin a favor with the Iran War and Hormuz blockade.
