This is me any time I'm going somewhere. If I have to get on a plane at 1PM, I'm arriving in the airport at 9AM at the latest. Otherwise, I just feel increasingly anxious the longer I wait. I'd rather spend three and a half hours sitting in a terminal than be stressing out about whether I'm going to make it in time.

I could have written exactly this comment

This is me. Last time I was so early there was another flight, going to the same place I was, getting ready to board. On a whim I asked if I could switch to that one since I was there already, and managed to get a seat. I was home before my original flight even took off lol.

I could be at the terminal three hours early, and I'll still feel nervous and anxious until I'm on the plane...

Sorry I'm late, I got distracted by worrying about what if I'm late.

[-] ExtremeUnicorn@feddit.org 11 points 3 days ago

Totally, I related to all but the last panel.

[-] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 days ago

Life hack: forbid yourself from checking the time on the way there. That way you won't be able to keep checking to make sure you'll be there on time (and hurrying as a consequence), and it'll force you to set off long enough in advance.

[-] whaleross@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Pro tip: If you are invited home to someone - do not, repeat not, be one hour early.

[-] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago

If pigeon had a job to keep him occupied & stressed-out all day he could approach the evening plans like a normal ~~person~~ pigeon.

[-] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

As a normal pigeon myself I can assure you that most pigeons do not have a job

[-] JennaR8r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

I'm gonna go stalk through your profile to find out if you're really a pigeon or not. BRB...

[-] lugal@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

On the internet, nobody knows you're a pigeon (except for you because I told you)

[-] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Oh, look, I have extra time before I need to get moving. How much extra time? I dunno, probably infinite.

[-] gerryflap@feddit.nl 8 points 2 days ago

This, but with an extra step where I start preparing 5 minutes too late, can't find shit, and then end up having to hurry so I arrive sweaty ans barely on time or too late

[-] cows_are_underrated@feddit.org 11 points 3 days ago

I have the same problem, especially if I'm riding a bus/train. I need almost exactly 15 minutes to the train station. This means, that I should leave my apartment 20 minutes before departure, which means, that I will leave 25-30 minutes before departure, because I'm stressing out, that I might miss the train. This of course means, that I will be there way to early and promise myself, that I will leave a few minutes later next time, just to repeat the exact same mistake.

[-] Tonava@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

If it's by bus, you have to calculate and take the bus before the one that's on time, so if something goes wrong and the bus doesn't come or dies on the road, you still make it with the next one. This makes things harder when you have to change busses in the middle, because then there's so many things that can go wrong, and depending on the time schedules your options might be an hour too early or betting that nothing goes wrong. And the busses are never that reliable so an hour early it is

[-] kalpol@lemmy.ca 20 points 3 days ago

So did Extra Fabulous start the disconnected other eye style?

[-] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago

Exactly my first thought. Plus it's especially weird on a bird where the eyes are on either side of the head normally

[-] Tortellinius@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I thought this was an ADHD meme, but someone like me would've still been late in the last panel.

[-] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

This is why I try and get all my medical appointments in the morning. Less time my body forces me into 'wait mode'

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Me - "Fuck it I'm gonna be late for work today"

Also me - Shows up a half hour early anyway

[-] Mac@mander.xyz 8 points 3 days ago

Portable gaming is perfect for this.
You fully prepare and even travel to the thing and then you can set an alarm and play games while in limbo until the start time.

I did this with my Steam Deck last week (or was it two weeks ago...).

[-] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

Now she has to wait a whole hour to poop on the CEO's car.

[-] ptz@dubvee.org 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

That's basically what goes through my head when someone compliments me on my punctuality.

[-] negativenull@piefed.world 14 points 3 days ago

My punctuality is always preceded by me getting there way early, and waiting in my car.

[-] Drusas@fedia.io 3 points 3 days ago

I've read that this is common among people with ADHD, but I very much do not have ADHD and I very much struggle with this.

[-] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago

As someone with ADHD the first two frames...maybe, if you're the type to hyperfixate in that.

The latter two...I have never been early to anything ever.

[-] Ashen44@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago

As someone with ADHD, the whole comic is me exactly. I'm never late to anything ever because I literally can't think of anything except the event until it happens, and I'm also super stressed about missing things so I always leave early.

[-] mech@feddit.org 5 points 3 days ago

It's common with people who have both ADHD and autism.

[-] osanna@lemmy.vg 3 points 3 days ago

waiting mode, amirite

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)
