Deploying the same methodology that Republicans used to track cost increases under former President Joe Biden, JEC Democrats found that the average US family is spending roughly $700 more per month on basic items since Trump took office in January, pledging to bring prices “way down.”

Smart to use their methodology. That way they can't call it flawed. Well they can but they'll sound stupid

That way they can’t call it flawed.

So cute that you think this!

[-] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 37 points 2 weeks ago

Well they can but they'll sound stupid

I wish this mattered to them. It hasn't stopped them so far lol.

$700 more PER MONTH? Where do people take the money from?

[-] Bluewing@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

Credit card bankruptcies are climbing.

[-] aesthelete@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Mostly people accumulate debt in the US.

The same place Uber drivers get it from: their existing assets by way of unreturned value, resulting in ever decreasing net worth and increased debt.

I voted Trump because I trust him with the economy over that woman.

[-] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 33 points 2 weeks ago

Average Trump voter would be cold, hungry, and sleeping in a gutter and still not admit they made a mistake.

This quote has stayed with me for years now:

“The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn’t even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it.”

People in this thread are not picking up on the sarcasm here...

[-] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 9 points 2 weeks ago

Kind of a trend on lemmy, I'm noticing...

[-] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

Which is weird, because with Lemmy’s small community, all it took was a glance at the username for me to go, “Oh, I know SatansMaggotyCumFart, they’re cool. Which means that comment was definitely sarcasm.”

I downvoted you because your blatant sarcasm wasn't punctuated with a "/s", so there was a 0.007% chance you were being sincere.

[-] athatet@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 weeks ago

How is it blatant sarcasm when it’s literally what magas say?

Someone is wining, but it ain't you.

[-] worhui@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

That's a lot of money.

I mean that's about 12k pre tax to afford the 8.4k increase in costs. 18% of the median income in just increases, not total costs!

How are most people able to swing that if the median income is 66k ?

[-] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 weeks ago

So you know how there's the story of the underage girl prostituting herself to a congressperson for money for braces?

Exploitation. That's how people are intended, nay, expected, to 'swing it.'

[-] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Invading Venezuela, giving cash to Argentina and golfing are the top priorities. I hope the Red Oblasts get hit the hardest.

[-] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 5 points 2 weeks ago

Like Iraq, like Libya, like Syria, invading Venezuela has bipartisan support. The most you see from the dems are technical nitpicks about the way Trump is pursuing hostilities. Not one said "we should end the blockade and resume trade with Venezuela".

[-] BoloMKXXVIII@piefed.social 10 points 2 weeks ago

No kidding.

we're not the only ones playing that game.

Guys im quite confident this is sarcasm

[-] pumpkin_spice@lemmy.today 13 points 2 weeks ago

We are in a new age of disinformation and crazy people, where the president of the US literally responds to protests against him with AI videos of him shitting on all of them, and where every sarcasm post needs an /s.

I've managed to mostly keep my grocery bill down by buying more raw ingredients to supplement my garden and making stuff at home in bulk.

But I doubt that will continue now that the garden is done. I'm still waiting on the Trump Famine to hit since he's been constantly fucking up the agriculture sector. I'm not sure what the timing of it will be, but he seems to be intentionally trying to bring back the conditions described in the Grapes of Wrath.

In my yard I've planted 7 fruit trees and 8 berry bushes. And I'm building 200 Sq ft of raised beds, and another 400 sq ft of non raised bed garden. (Right now I have 100 sq ft) And I'm still planning arbors to grow Kiwi Berries and grapes. And I'm building a chicken coop today for 4 chickens. But all that probably won't sustain my family for 3-5 years when the trees and bushes finally start hitting fuller production.

I'm still waiting on gas and electricity bills to go up. So far gas is staying steady and electricity has only gone up 10% compared to the 20+% I'm seeing reported other places.

[-] SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

But I'm also probably going without health insurance next year because premiums went up 300 a month, and I fully can't afford that.

Yah, but Biden had the worst economy ever, and Pedonald is just trying to dig out from all the terribleness.
