Weeks of research (lemmy.world)

TranscriptionTwo Twitter posts. The original is by Shitheadsteve @shitheadsteve, and it reads “10 year old me preparing to tell my mom at 9pm I need glue and construction paper for my project due tomorrow.” There is an attached picture of Homelander from The Boys exhaling with a fearful expression on his face. The second post is replying to the original post. It’s is by Roy Wood Jr- Ex Jedi O @roywoodjr and it reads “6th grade I forgot the science fair was next day. 10pm in a panic, I find a loaf of molded bread my pops forgot to throw out. Made a study on mold, moisture & air. Got 2nd place in the school. 5th in the city. Bread so moldy I was praised for "conducting weeks of research".

Throw out moldy bread? In this economy?

[-] iamericandre@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Especially with health care costs, can’t throw away penicillin

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 15 points 1 day ago

Wait a fucking minute

We didn't need to do those stupid projects, GPA doesn't matter until high school and no one learns one goddamn thing from doing them

OUR INNOCENT PAST SELVES WERE TRICKED

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

need, no, but it does fairly clearly identify which kids have their parents do their work for them

This deception goes deeper than I thought

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

TIL that's not captain america

[-] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 27 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's an alternate universe where Captain America became tolerant of Nazis, then became one. And also he can fly and has laser eyes.

[-] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago

I think Soldier Boy is Cap, Homelander is capitalist American (whom the Nazis took a lot of inspiration from) Superman. In any case the satire is well and truly lost on the people it’s aimed at.

[-] uriel238 3 points 2 days ago

Superman would have rescued the passengers one by one if that's what was necessary. Just sayin'

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

supes can just rewind time as many times as he needs to get 'em all

[-] MissJinx@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

That's america's dick not america's ass

[-] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

almost same thing, really

also a character with high morals that would do anything to save the population. Truly a role model, you should watch it.

[-] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Ahahah! You gotta watch The Boys now

[-] uriel238 26 points 2 days ago

Then there's us kids who knew it was dangerous to ask our parents for crafting supplies even for a homework assignment... heck it was dangerous to be visible at home, let alone express a need.

[-] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I didn't even have the moldy bread. I just made my entire project up off the top of my head the night before. It was some rubbish about running different batteries down on light bulbs and tracking their life spans.

[-] IDAK_Alpha_12@lemmy.eco.br 3 points 1 day ago

That what internet is for. Show me I'm not alone in this harsh world

[-] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

When my dad remembered his herbarium homework the morning of, Grandma ran into the garden and collected a variety of plants in a few minutes. Using the oven and iron, she produced the best dried plants in his class.

[-] rizzothesmall@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 days ago

That's some life-success level blagging

[-] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Should have been hung and quartered for scientific malfeasance

[-] MissJinx@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

That's why the new generation is week. In our youth there was no internet tk "make a study" at 10 pm. Mom and dad would have to improvise a vulcano until 3pm dor it to be dry in the morning. And all we had were our own parents fact to go on lol

edit: it's a joke. It's great parents have the internet today

[-] RidderSport@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

Well I guess your generation was preoccupied using brick phones to learn how to properly spell words judging by the amount of spelling errors, as well as lack of punctuation.

[-] MissJinx@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

A person that attacks ponctuation and spelling is weak.

btw I had no glasses and was in bed. I don't care about this here, but if you do so much maybe it's not the place for you.

[-] RidderSport@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

Mate it's a joke - calm down, I could not care less about someone's spelling especially since mine would suck much more as a foreigner

[-] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 2 points 1 day ago

Where I grew up we didn't even have science fairs. We just had to learn things and pass tests.
