Cut it out with this bullshit about things that are “going to happen” “soon” and “imminently” or whatever. It has already happened, quit it with the denial.

[-] MangioneDontMiss@feddit.nl 25 points 18 hours ago

the coup has already happened. He controls every branch of government and most of the courts. Its fucking done.

[-] thepompe@ttrpg.network 22 points 20 hours ago

Why exactly does he need a coup?

The government already does whatever he wants with no pushback.

[-] smeenz@lemmy.nz 2 points 18 hours ago

So he can cancel the midterms

[-] AshMan85@lemmy.world 40 points 23 hours ago

Preparing? Where the fuck have you been

[-] Microtonal_Banana@lemmy.zip 14 points 19 hours ago

The guy firing generals and murdering fisherman?

Looking from outside in I just can not fathom how any country. And that's any country at all, ever. Could fall so low that Donvict fucking Drumpf not only has the option but also the ability, to throw away centuries of law and history away and take control.
It just doesn't make sense.

The guys a fucking imbecile, there's no evil genius inside of him. Evil, yes. Genius, fuck no.
His professor at uni called him the dumbest student he ever had.

Yet this failed reality TV star, and even worse businessman (plus convicted criminal and rapist, paedo, con man, racist etc etc), just bumbled in to politics and is now about to rip up their constitution and wipe his shitty arse on it without much pushback.

Fucking hell, make it make sense. Fucks sake.

[-] 4grams@lemmy.world 24 points 23 hours ago

Because he’s just the personality in front of this shit, this has been brewing for decades. He has no clue what he’s doing, but they let him because it works as a distraction while the millers and voughts dismantle things.

[-] HaveMeOnYourPodcast@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago

This has been in the works for a century and it's just finally happened.

They tried it once already in the 30s when Bush Jr's grandfather Prescott Bush and his pals tried to get Smedley Butler to overthrow Roosevelt.

Fortunately back then they had a general in mind with some ethics and he didn't play along. This time they found Trump.

[-] rayyy@piefed.social 17 points 23 hours ago

You are not wrong. This situation is a reflection of America's greed, ignorance and utter moral failure. A "Christian" country - don't make me laugh.

[-] Machinist@lemmy.world 55 points 1 day ago

Sitting on the inside here. I'm perpetually astounded as well. Very little of this suprises me anymore but plenty of things shock me.

He's a stereotypical conman; so shallow, so obvious. And yet, my family and former friends continue to slurp up his bullshit. It's so fucking stupid. He's so stupid. On paper, many of these people are smarter than the orange used car salesman.

It's difficult to describe how astounded I really am. Black magic or aliens would make more sense. I would find a novel or show with this unrealistic.

I wonder if I'll ever understand?

[-] rayyy@piefed.social 9 points 23 hours ago

And yet, my family and former friends continue to slurp up his bullshit.

Same here BUT food prices shooting up, farmers are going boots up and the stock market implosion is at the door. Ya would think hitting them on the head with this economic baseball bat would get their attention. Oh, the live fire "demonstration" hit a Highway Patrol vehicle .

[-] QuarkVsOdo@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Ey yo. The "No Kings" Protest, people like Newsom, Prizker, AOC, Bernie and Mamdani still give me some hope that your country isn't lost - and with it, the NATO and all free countries.

  • Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West! *

Much like Regan and Bush Junior, Trump is the front man to smarter (but not really smart) people who orchestrate everything. He just happens to be broadly aligned with what they want, and every now and again they throw him a bone with his personal vendettas while allowing his family to make obscene amounts of money via various scams and bribes.

What is truly astounding is how many people voted for the orange buffoon a second time, and still support him now. He has always been very clear as to what he is, what he will do, yet they still vote for him? Racism and hate has to be a powerful perfume that covers up the rancid stench of Trump and his goons.

Fourth Reich Archaeolgy

[-] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 7 points 1 day ago

People still calling him smart is the thing that makes me shit my pants. I don't know how anyone can think that who has just heard him talk for more than 10 seconds. This isn't even hyperbolic. It's like north korea, but they don't want to kiss their leaders ass they have to. Americans bend over to get fucked harder, because they like it.

[-] Grumpyleb@lemmus.org 30 points 1 day ago

It's now or never for Americans. Either step up, cripple the country with strikes, or live in whatever Trumps backers vison for America is.

[-] dandelion 11 points 23 hours ago

ha, I'm already unemployed, they screwed themselves on that one

[-] Grumpyleb@lemmus.org 20 points 23 hours ago

Unfortunately, so many Americans are being held hostage by the fact they live paycheck to paycheck, and health insurance for the most part is dependent on your employers. This republican policies have been a long time in the making and seems to have worked for them. God (s) help you all.

[-] BranBucket@lemmy.world 8 points 22 hours ago

This is what it boils down to. The first person/org that can win their trust and assure them that basic needs will be met and they won't be forgotten after the dust settles will have a massive following overnight.

[-] JackDark@lemmy.world 140 points 1 day ago

No shit. His words and actions are where to look.

[-] SnotFlickerman 118 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

He's been telegraphing it since 2016. In 2020 he literally tried to stop the peaceful passing of power between Presidencies and made it a very not peaceful passage for the first time in US history.

Like, if you haven't noticed, you haven't been paying the fuck attention (not you OP, you're obviously paying attention). I'm so sick of our media downplaying it like they're just figuring this the fuck out, like he isn't the most transparently bad liar in fucking history.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago

He's not even a bad liar. That would mean he's lying. He literally said in 2019 "If I win the 2020 election, I will accept those results. If the results say I lost, then you'll know just how rigged it was, and I will refuse to accept it. We'll change the rigged elections and show them how you can't rig elections anymore."

He straight up said, long before a single vote could be cast, that he wasn't doing any part of the election process in good faith.

Then in the 2024 election right around the time of the debates, he said "Last time they rigged the elections. We're going to show them how to rig it so the good guys win. It'll be the biggest election you've ever seen. It'll be such a big election with such a turnout, that you won't need a recount. You won't need anymore elections after this. This will be the last one we do, believe me."

He's straight up saying that he's rigging elections and will refuse to hand over power when his term limit expires.

He's not lying. He's straight up telling you he's going to be a piece of shit, and then he follows it up by being a piece of shit.

[-] Dragomus@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

This ...

He will not just step off the stage, he can not.
Regardless of his mental state, he is so ingrained in Project 2025 that they do not let him until a working solution is found, perhaps after an official declaration of kingship and he appoints a successor will he get to step down.
Next to that if he would now just lay down his title and maga crumbles down he's absolutely certain he'll be drowned in lawsuits again and perhaps actually given jailtime.

Oh, and the coup ... yeah that is already ongoing just in a sneaky way...

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago

I think as his dementia takes hold more and more, he's going to become more erratic and it will be cunts like Steven Miller who step up to push for things. My suspicion is that the GOP is staying silent because there are many senior legislators and connected friends that ran with Epstein and why Trump isn't releasing those files is because it's "compromat" that he can leverage tons of people with. This is EXACTLY the kind of thing Roy Cohn would have taught him to do.

[-] rayyy@piefed.social 4 points 23 hours ago

our media downplaying it like they’re just figuring this the fuck out

Like they are a little bit in/for on it too?

[-] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 123 points 1 day ago
[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 24 points 1 day ago

That was an attempted coup kinda

[-] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 50 points 1 day ago

Just because he was bad at it doesn't make it less a coup

[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 12 points 1 day ago

Kind of not "attempted" because he scared congresspeople into silence.

Also, kind reminder that without a constitutional amendment, NOTHING can legally dissolve Congress, nor require it to assemble in DC or really anywhere specific. Maybe a court will say it must assemble only in U.S. territory.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago

Don't think he knows about second coup, Dew.

[-] _stranger_@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

You don't need evidence, he's said as much several times in public.

[-] MrSmiley@lemmy.zip 37 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Hate to break it to you but we are well past the coup stage. The journalist badge stuff the other day was an important milestone.

Regardless of the pervasive reach of interpersonal social media and of the Internet … control over the mass media emanating from the political center will still be our most important weapon in establishing our authority after the coup.

Coup D’État: A Practical Handbook, Luttwak

[-] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 20 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Autocrats & dick taters usually tell us what they want. We should listen.

I already knew it in 2017, when both Mary Trump and Tony Schwartz said "He won't go willingly", but whoever didn't get the memo after Jan 6, 2021 should get their brains examined.

That said, I do believe this can still be turned around. How complete is their control over military & law enforcement, justice & legislation, voting machines etc? It is very clear that they are aiming at 100% but they aren't quite there yet.

[-] prole 21 points 1 day ago

A coup? He already has complete control? The fuck you mean?

[-] freebee@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

No there are still some more or less independent judges and media (even mainstream look at south park) and the hope is very much still there that there will be new elections in 2028. Only after there are no new elections by 2030 or when they are a clear smokescreen with Stalinist scores or if trump himself personally appoints a successor will the coup process be complete, imo. Military on the streets are not yet doing Prague spring or Tianmen square style complete sweeps of entire protesting populations, ICE is still "only" individual cases mostly. They're getting there, but I don't think the control is complete yet.

[-] Flisty@mstdn.social 1 points 1 day ago

@freebee @prole they didn't even manage to keep Kimmel off air.

[-] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 2 points 19 hours ago

Keeping an opposing party out of the system is actual destruction of the US.

[-] aesthelete@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Who could possibly see this coming?!?

Oh well, I'm sure this guy that got away with everything will somehow face consequences when he does this next horrible thing.

[-] modestmeme@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Rawstory locks my lemme app (Mlem) and I have to close the app to get off their subscription page…

[-] vividspecter@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago

There might be an "open in browser" option that can workaround issues like this.

[-] modestmeme@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Thanks. I just found (on iPhone) that “show reader) bypasses paywall on that site.
