Pedro stays based

Reminder that Pedro Pascal is related to Salvador Allande, democraticly elected communist whom the US overthrew and replaced with a fascist dictatorship.

The coup involved flying a plane into the Capitol on 9/11, 1971

Edit: 1973, and a plane flying missiles into the capitol building.

1973 Chilean coup d'état

I assume you mean 1973.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/50CTJnPn0RC2tXg18zfcXxy/the-scots-who-stopped-air-strikes-by-a-violent-chilean-dictator

By flying a plane into the capitol you mean using military planes to fire rockets at the La Moneda Palace.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

LOL. I guess history doesn't have to be accurate.

[-] LavaPlanet@sh.itjust.works 33 points 1 month ago

This man becomes more and more irresistibly hansom the more he speaks.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 32 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Dude is aware of what it's like living in dictatorship in his ancestral country of Chile.

Hang on, Brazil rebuffed Trump's strong arming to go easy on Bolsonaro. And Pedro having the big balls to stand up to Trump. There seems to be pattern of two countries that suffered under a dictatorship. Who again supported the dictatorship in these countries before?

[-] qualia@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Yet despite all the posturing we've yet to hear a single peep from Mon Mothma. 🤦

[-] Batman@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago

Maybe Disney didn't expect the subscription backlash and it's trying to reduce losses by asking it's spokespeople to give them a reason to "cave"

Maybe it's just Pascal being a good dude. Hard to know sadly, hope it's the 🪜.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 56 points 1 month ago

He's spoken out on sensitive issues before I have no reason to doubt him here.

[-] Batman@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago

Alright, then I'm glad. Good for him saying what needs to be said. Dont follow celebrities. Probably to a fault.

[-] Kalothar@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 month ago

Thank you, Batman

[-] prole 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Thanks Bruce, er.... Batman. Fuck.

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

If you zoom in on that emoji, you can see in the background where The Undertaker is throwing Mankind off Hell in a Cell, and plummeting 16 feet through an announcer's table.

Might as well just change the headline to say: "Pedro Pascal is on the right side of history" because like most others here on the federated internet he knows what's up and for him it probably started with his sister coming out.

All it takes is a little wake up call.
And now I'm thinking of the movie The Matrix again..
And if you're looking to support Pedro Pascal, may I interest you in this little (scifi-western) independent film he made with Sophie Thatcher?

Give a spoiler warning next time.

[-] Scallops@ttrpg.network 2 points 1 month ago

Oh, Prospect is great!

[-] etherphon@piefed.world 18 points 1 month ago

He's already a millionaire and there are other studios....

[-] shplane@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

You can get blocklisted in Hollywood very easily just by pissing off one studio. These tv executives definitely talk to each other.

[-] etherphon@piefed.world 6 points 1 month ago

I suppose, though in these days there are a few more options if that happens. He's quite beloved though, so I think it would be a mistake for any studio to do that since backlash is realtime nowadays.

[-] huppakee@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago

He's talanted and well known and there are other countries

[-] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 month ago

so were other people before

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

That was when America was powerful and their media companies weren't circling the drain.

At the current rate things are deteriorating, I reckon Pedro Pascal has about 3 months left of being a US citizen :(

the only way to hurt disney is people cancelling thier disney+, espn, hulu plus subscription. it will be hard for marvel and SW fans to cancel it, since thier so addicted to the franchises. there is a reason why disney is shoveling so much MARVEL garbage to the streams, its keeping ti afloat.

[-] SCmSTR 8 points 1 month ago

"They are" doesn't have an "i".

To conjoin those two words, you delete the "a" from "are", replace it with an apostrophe, and push them up together, getting: "they're"

They are

V

They re

V

They 're

V

They're

Can they keep going to the parks, watching the movies in theater, and buying the merch?

Cause streaming isn't a significant part of their business.

[-] tetris11@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

If a number goes down, even a little, on any one of their ever increasing revenue inputs, it's enough to panic investors

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

People have been saying that since Biden. But so much of the capital is tied up in Hedge Funds and at such a high price point that there's not a lot of people to sell it to.

Dumping stock only makes sense when there's someone to take your bags. If you don't have a designated mark (the US Treasury during the '08 collapse, for instance, or the recent 10% stake in Intel that the government just took) then all you can do is hold.

[-] tetris11@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

hmm, good point!

I'm a bit tired of seeing him in so much so suddenly, but if it's going to be anyone I'm glad it's someone as moral as Pascal.

[-] Ulrich@feddit.org 7 points 1 month ago

LOL if he cared about Disney ethics he wouldn't have been making movies for them in the first place.

[-] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 13 points 1 month ago

My wife bought a fun shirt not that long ago.

Thought I'd share it.

Is this guy ever anything but awesome?

I don't want to see him in all the things, but I'm damn not complaining about how much he's in.

[-] princessnorah 6 points 1 month ago

what the fluff is up with the picture of kimmel they chose in the thumbnail??

[-] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago

He's out of a job so he needs to look slobby and disheveled!! News articles have always gotta choose a picture that fits the way they want to portray the person's response to the situation, even if it's actually from years ago. It's one of my favorite things to see because it's just so funny.

[-] locahosr443@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

As someone who got to this level of fame later in their career he's probably also been smart with his money and is now set for life freeing him up to act like a normal person.

[-] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah he´s boldly making them billions
