mine is, ice cold beer and simple grilled cheese, its always good to have that after hard day. pardon my english :)

I hadn't read a book since I left Japan in 2019 and my depression set in. The other day, as I was reading up on electric fields, it came to me, out of the blue, that I want to practice my pronunciation of Hungarian, one of my first languages, and to increase my vocabulary thereof, so I decided to check out my library's collection of Hungarian novels to read out loud.

I settled on A Pál Utcai Fiúk, since it wasn't too long. Has anybody here read it? What did you think?

I just finished reading the whole novel out loud, one chapter at a time, sitting outdoors in a quiet street or park or the likes. Well, all but the last three pages, since I was crying like a child and I couldn't produce a single word.

I cannot recommend this book enough! It has been translated to tens of different languages, so give it a shot! 😊🇭🇺

Hey all, I'm visiting Sapporo through August 5 (solo trip, driving around Hokkaido) and figured I'd test whether the fediverse has enough density here for an IRL meetup.

About me: maker, business systems, homelabber. Happy to talk travels, crafting, homelab, nightlife, or whatever over beers.

Plan: I'll be at the language exchange event at Bar Ocho this Sunday (Aug 2), 6:15 to 8:15pm. It's ¥600 plus one drink order (drinks from ¥700), 6F of the Dai-2 Kanko Kaikan Building near Susukino Station. Join the event if that's your thing, or swing by after and we can grab a drink. I'll be the white guy in a beanie. If Sunday doesn't work but you're around before the 5th, comment or DM and we'll figure something out.

If literally nobody is in Sapporo, feel free to use this thread to tell me what I should eat while I'm here instead.

It appears the meetup 6 mo ago has lapsed and the bar is currently closed. Oh well, I'll hang out for a bit and see if anyone shows up.

I'm going out with my daughter to look at a car for her. She's an adult, she's buying it, I'm just along mostly for moral support. Doing the dad thing. However, it's out of my wheelhouse, and I want to make sure we don't miss anything.

What sort of things to you look for or check when shopping for a used car?

Do you have any suggestions?

I don't really have many people to talk to about this but I finished my run with my run club and as I was leaving to go back to my car when I saw a Shiba Inu run towards me. I thought to myself: "that is a beautiful dog". Then I noticed no leash on the dog and then I saw two young adult men (I'm 40, everyone younger than me looks like a teenager so I dunno) run as fast as they could and they screamed, "STOP THAT DOG!"

I've never owned a dog so I knelt down to the dog running towards me (behind me is traffic) and I spread my arms to block it and slowly wrapped my arms around the dog trying not to spook it. I put my fingers into the hole in the collar (where the leash hook would go ... I don't own a dog ... so I don't know what the names are) while trying to comfort a dog that wanted absolutely nothing to do with me.

The two boys eventually caught up and I noticed neither had a leash and both kept a distance from me. One of them keeled over and the other one was trying to catch their breath while making a phone call. I said, "where's the leash?" They were like, "it's not our dog we're door-to-door salespeople". Apparently, they knocked on a door and the dog darted out and they tried their best to catch it. The one not keeled over in pain phoned the owner (I have no idea how he had her number) but she eventually arrived and picked up the dog.

The owner didn't really say thank you or made eye contact with me at all. She took her dog and put it into the back of the car. I didn't really blame her for that. I can just imagine the shock and everything not really registering.

I just thought it was a funny incident on my side and I was just happy to help.

Title basically. I love how this disease is just bad enough to make you miserable. But not enough to get you any sympathy points. So you are just stuck rotting in bed while having people around you judge you🫡.

So I am by no means a music nerd. But I have always loved anime rock bands. This year I will be going to college and I think I can finally convince my parents to lend me enough money to buy an electric guitar.. which I have tried saving up for but I am too broke🤷 and part time jobs are not a thing here. I have saved up enough to get an acoustic but I want electric.

My parents are conservative (who hate Rock) and certainly wont take my request gladly, but oh well I will try. If not then in a year I will have enough to buy an entry level squier and learn some riffs without needing my parents permission.

So anyway this post is a lot of rambling. Well to tell the truth I recovered from a bad depressive episode so it has been turbulent past few days and yesterday I got a cold so now I am pissed off. And I have been listening to the “Thats Why I Gave Up on Music” album by Yorushika. I even created my own playlist on youtube of the whole album subtitled lol. It is a wonderful album.
