As Judith Butler said: “Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you are operating within a Fascist mindset”

[-] mienshao@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago

As someone who seethed at leftists who fucked over Kamala and either didn’t vote or voted for the fat fascist—this shit has me damn near done with the Democratic party. If Dems continue to move rightward, they will lose.

MMW, if Dems pick gavin or buttigieg, I’m voting third party in 2028. I sincerely, truly, wholeheartedly believe that it is worse for America in 2028 to have two fullblown conservative political parties than for Dems to lose in 2028 and MAYBE have a come to jesus moment where they realize that, regardless of bullshit noise online, the People want leftist policies (like healthcare for all, vaccines, free school lunch, affordable rent).

Fuck buttigieg. The LGBTQ community is a community — NO FUCKING LGB WITHOUT THE FUCK T. PERIODT.

A lot of people want the US to resist fascism, but this kind of thinking might be the reason fascism will win in the end.

If you can't put aside your differences to fight a common enemy, you'll lose.

[-] mienshao@lemmy.world 24 points 2 weeks ago

Put aside our differences by throwing a vulnerable minority community to the wolves? And pray tell, who exactly is the “common enemy”? You’re the one in engaging in fascist thinking by assuming that sacrificing minorities will somehow help you. See “Then they came for me…” poem.

[-] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

I don't see Democrats putting LGBTQ+ people in concentration camps, but I think it's just a question of months before Republicans begin to do so.

Also, Buttigieg saying trans women might have an advantage in sports is very very far from throwing a community to the wolves, like you say.

The US is in its current state because its citizens are more focused on what divides them than on what unites them. Social media is to blame I think, creating an infinity of echo chambers where people get less and less tolerant to contrary opinions, argue less, and insult more. And while the people are fighting among themselves, the ruling class can sleep peacefully.

What unites us is easy, Luigi is the most popular man in America for a reason.

The problem is that the people calling the shots are same sort of people who Luigi Luigi'd. Actual political progress in this country would require divesting the rich and powerful of their lofty status, something the people who own this country will never accept.

If you can't put aside your differences to fight a common enemy, you'll lose.

You're absolutely correct here. It's just that Democrats and Republicans have spent the last forty years putting aside their differences to fight leftists.

Yeah let me just put aside that that the dems apparently also want to discriminate against me. Seems like I'm lacking a political party that isn't my enemy.

[-] Soulg@ani.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

The other option wants to kill you

[-] knightly@pawb.social 11 points 2 weeks ago

Does that make discrimination acceptable to you or are you just doing a whataboutism?

[-] Rose@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

Unless you're extremely naive, you recognize that no politician is perfect, but in a de facto two-party system like that of the US, not voting for the lesser evil is a vote for the worst. Acknowledging that is not saying that some discrimination is okay, but it's easier to ask for more protections and protest when you're not in a concentration camp.

Unless you're extremely naive, you recognize that no politician is perfect, but in a de facto two-party system like that of the US, voting for the lesser evil is still a vote for evil. Acknowledging that is not saying that some compromise isn't okay, but that it's easier to ask for a government that doesn't suck when the lesser evil can't assume it has your support and must service your needs rather than those of campaign financiers in order to remain relevant.

[-] Rose@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

So what's your approach to politics? If you choose not to vote at all, and voting for someone outside the two parties is practically the same as that in the US, how do you effect change? If you protest as a means of that, who's your target or audience? Is it the same politicians? Is it the people who would then have to choose between the same politicians?

[-] knightly@pawb.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

Change is effected by people working in concert toward a common goal.

My target audience is corporate Democrats, who need to see that actual democracy is incompatible with unfettered capitalism before they can change.

[-] Zorque@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

They'd have to be willing to put aside differences as well. The problem is they're more than willing to throw their "compatriots" under the bus to get easy points for right-leaning fence sitters.

Compromise only works if everyone is willing to do it, otherwise it's just retreat.

[-] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

I agree, but there is a difference between trying to compromise with an enemy and making enemies of potential allies because you don't 100% agree with them.

[-] princessnorah 2 points 2 weeks ago

Three* fullblown conservative political parties 😭

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

That's where all the donors are, if your not playing ball with the gop most of the time they will find someone who will, and yes the doc does work with gop. Buttitieg wasn't electable in 2020, he won't be anytime soon. Being gay is already enough to turn people away from him

[-] princessnorah 1 points 2 weeks ago

I genuinely think a gay man will be elected President before a woman in your country. Just a personal prediction.

[-] Keeponstalin@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

Pete Buttigieg is an opportunist, not a sympathizer. He will turn heel and throw whatever marginalized group under the bus at the most convenient opportunity.

Fuck this guy, he also worked on price fixing bread in the past.

[-] possumparty 2 points 2 weeks ago

~~opportunist~~

fascist wearing blue

[-] belated_frog_pants@beehaw.org 20 points 2 weeks ago

Fuck him. He wants to be the cis-het palatable gay and will kill us for the scraps under their tables.

[-] RedSeries 17 points 2 weeks ago

Well Pete, do you want to consider the opinion of homophobes who are worried about people like you in their changing rooms?

No? Because they're homophobic?

I wonder what that makes you, kettle.

[-] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

makes you wonder if he'd think we should consider the feelings of the kkk when talking about civil rights

[-] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago

do dems just not want people to vote for them?

[-] Zorque@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

They want the center to vote for them. The problem is the center is disappearing faster and faster. So their strategy of playing it super safe is working less and less.

[-] knightly@pawb.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

The problem is that the actual center is increasingly far to the left of the Democrat party establishment, which has been chasing the mythical centrist vote to the right for so long that they are now where the Republicans were a generation ago.
