Source (Bluesky)

Alt text from source01: A girl labeled 'Artists' is holding a drawing tablet and pen under her arm. She is wearing round glasses and a blue sweatshirt. She has messy dark-brown hair and a brown skin-tone. She says "We don't really wanna MAKE A.I. art."

02: A guy labeled 'Art Enjoyers' holds his hand out while speaking. She is wearing a purple and yellow hawaiian shirt with a floral pattern over a white t-shirt, and has red hair and a light skin-tone. He says "We don't really wanna SEE A.I. art."

03: Behind them both, there is a cute girl in a business suit with a pink tie. She is blushing a bit and has pink eyeshadow, and looks upset. Her messy shoulder-length hair is parted in the middle, and held by two hairclips: one that looks like a red arrow pointing down, and one that looks like a green arrow pointing up. She says "Um ... I-Isn't there someone you forgot to ask?" She is labeled 'Shareholders'.

04: She puffs up her cheeks and pouts, a tear is on the verge of falling from one of her eyes. 'Artist Enjoyers' Guy is now in front of her yelling "AH!! SHAREHOLDERS-CHAN!!" while 'Artists' Girl is in front of her yelling "WE'RE SORRY WE HURT YOU!!!!"

The thing this comic misses is it should show like an untalented every man declaring I totally want to use this to make art that I don't have the ability to create. Because that's exactly what happened making the artist value massively decrease.

If you think that there's even a remote chance you'll be able to discern what was AI generated within a year, you're fooling yourself.

AI replacing artists like crossbows replaced archers.

[-] bier@feddit.nl 3 points 2 days ago

Exactly, when that AI music thing came out I really enjoyed making weird music. Like I would ask give me banjo techno with a digeridoo and I got pretty cool stuff out of it. I never pretended to be gifted at making music, but I'll definitely use the tools to experiment.

It is not so much the "I want to use it as a toy regardless of the environmental consequences" crowd like you that is the main problem. That would be the "I want to use it to create profit regardless of the environmental and artistic consequences" which is the main problem. They will eventually completely replace actual art, because it profits them and they have no limits to how much slop they can produce.

[-] bier@feddit.nl 1 points 1 day ago

I thought about this for a while and I'm not convinced.

Either AI makes slop, the "ART" is soulless, misses that creative spark we humans have and is more like in imitation of art than actual art.

In that case it will not replace human artists.

The other case is it will make thought provoking works, things that evoke real emotions and has the ability to help humanity forward. In that case I don't really care the art is not made by humans.

But so far I'm not convinced AI (LLMs) can do this. If at some point AI makes all the art and humans stop making art. The AI doesn't get any new training data, so it would only improve by actuall creativity and coming up with things never done before. The current state of AI feels a lot more like mixing what it knows.

apparently they are pushing so hard with this shit because that bubble is propping up their economy.

[-] ghen@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago

I thought the bubble had popped when we had AI energy drinks, jokes on me it's just a bigger bubble now. When that thing bursts it's going to be way worse than the dotcom crash

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago

these guys are getting better at inflating bubbles way bigger than they ever would.

I dunno how many times I need to say it before anyone hears this, but....

Nobody gives a shit about the shareholders.

[-] uienia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

The problem is that the people in power do care a lot about the shareholders.

[-] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Except the corporations. They only care about the shareholders.

[-] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

Corporations are not people.

“The enshittification will continue until the morale improves”

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 82 points 3 days ago

This is what I keep saying. NO ONE WANTS THIS. Its purely slop so ad companies can fire all their artists and give you unlimited targeted ads. Its the ULTIMATE enshittification.

[-] theUwUhugger@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I mean fuck me, but as long as the content is good I really don’t care about its origin!

I wasn’t the guy who downvoted you btw

[-] WarTowel@lemmy.world 28 points 3 days ago
[-] theUwUhugger@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Its not like they are good enough for commercial use? What else are they used for aside from meme making?

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

Umm, most commercials you see now are already ai. Most movies (esp. The superhero genre) are ai as well. You can't escape. Unplug.

[-] jonathan@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago

You're full of shit.

[-] theUwUhugger@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

doubt.jpg

Which movie was made with ai?

[-] VeganCheesecake 6 points 2 days ago

There's the Eternaut, an Argentinian production that used AI for one effects shot. That's the only big one I've heard about, and I feel like there would have been some stirr if any larger production had used it.

[-] ieGod@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Disagree. Midjourney pumps out a ton of good stuff.

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

Well, it will be in 10 years. No one will be able to tell ai video or music at all. They already can't (Spotify is full of ai slop music and people gobble it up). You'll need to go to theaters or concerts to see anything human. Which could actually be a total renewing of live performance!

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago

Im conflicted. I mean good for you. But I have a deeper caring of art and media than that, so I care about the creator. The gibbity that Elmo told to make a nazi musical doesn't appeal to me.

[-] Honytawk@feddit.nl 2 points 2 days ago

So if you encounter art that you don't know its origin of, you can't like it?

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

No, but I will learn more about it and make more decisions based on that. Just like how some people wont listen to kid rock even if they like the music (which i can't imagine but whatever). Or wont buy a product because nestle kills babies. I think its called actually having principles.

[-] Donkter@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Hopefully the lesson people learn from this is that the Internet was never as genuine as it presents and we can leave the people who want AI art to their devices and emphasize private, personal art including the social experience of it.

[-] tgirlschierke 45 points 3 days ago

unfortunately shareholders-chan is really cute

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 22 points 2 days ago

This means she should be the first one to bend over and get fucked ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[-] MagnyusG@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Wouldn't be the first time that's happened to the characters in one of Shen's comics, maybe it's on purpose this time.

It's quite sad how AI could've been a tool to ENHANCE an Artist's workflow, but naaaaaaah corpos aren't about making lives better

[-] Valmond@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Well it can and does, lots of artists use it for making interesting compositions for example. Lots of graphic designers use it too.

[-] Honytawk@feddit.nl 7 points 2 days ago

Shhh, most people in this community will start fuming and calling it slop if you mention that.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I've heard about some actually usable frame interpolation tool getting cancelled in favor of promt machines once the latter became more apparent

[-] Evotech@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

You can use it to upscale your drawings, inpaint, add detail etc etc

Lots of stuff to enhance
