Nobody wants to be in that shape, nor to be photographed and mocked online like this.

My heart goes out to those folks, and I sincerely hope they can find the help they need to turn around their unhealthy lifestyles.

[-] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 1 week ago

Speaking as a disgusting fat bastard myself, feel free to criticise and mock me as much as you want.

Maybe it'll finally motivate me to do something about it.

[-] misteloct@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Right, that'll work.

You'll probably make more progress when you learn to accept and respect yourself. Losing a lot of weight is extraordinarily difficult and it'll take as long or longer than the amount of time it took to put it on. You'll have regressions and make mistakes. Your key will be neck breakingly slow but constant progress and being gentle on yourself, plus being surrounded by supportive people. I'm sorry you feel that you're disgusting but I don't.

My mom lost 70 pounds and then gained back 20 in the last 5 years. That's less than a pound per month, a 100 calorie deficit. She still eats a lot but I think that's what makes her successful. She has a long way to go but I never forget to tell her she's kicking ass because she is. You'd tell her that too. Now tell yourself.

My heart goes out for them too since their own is probably about to stop

[-] Zorsith 33 points 1 week ago

Imma be real, those things full of ice and water are godly on a hot day

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

A camelback is cheaper, less pathetic, and much more likely to have water in it than coke. This isn't normal or ok for humanity.

[-] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Water? Like in the Toilette?

[-] paraphrand@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Camelbacks taste funny, and I suspect they leech into the water. (Thus why they taste funny)

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Oh I'm sure they leech microplastics... But so do megagulps. The only difference is that camelbacks are almost entirely used for water (and probably some college kids alcoholic beverages) the difference is that these massive jugs usually contain soda, which covers up the plastic taste, and most are acidic, so they also contribute to the deterioration of the plastics in the container on top of that.

Y’all make fun of these folks. However they are living their life but adding walking into it.

We as a society should not be putting down those trying to better themselves. They are clearly working towards something.

[-] ook@discuss.tchncs.de 38 points 1 week ago

I applaud your positivity, but those two are more likely to just walk to their car right now than walking for walkings sake.

[-] Asswardbackaddict@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

You're judging them. They're minding their business. And implying moral failure for how they treat themselves. This is very much your problem. Nothing to do with them.

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

These are the same people that block my way when I go to generic 4th of July celebration they're not minding their business when their issues effect others. They're causing my insurance rates to go up and dragging their insolence with them in front of us is insulting.

[-] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 36 points 1 week ago

The bar is really low when we praise people for walking

The calories burned walking are completely offset by those consumed from the beverages. Walking in this case is probably pointless.

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

And likely the walking wasn't a choice. This is disgusting.

Walking is a normal thing that every able-bodied person should be doing plenty of every day - assuming that this basic act must be "trying to better themselves" is condescending and infantilizing IMO.

It's a depth-charge sized drink made by the 7-11 convenience store chain in the US. The biggest Big Gulp is the 128oz (or 3.5 liters).

It's just what you need if you're planning to hike through Death Valley or walk on the surface of the Sun.

An obscenely large soda from 7-eleven. The cups in the image aren't Big Gulps technically, but they are very large drink containers, and OP is using the term Big Gulp loosely

[-] salty_chief@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

A very large enclosed cup to hold liquids.

wow these replies are landmines so i will just be confused about how you even get a picture from that angle. the place doesn't look urban or like it would have any high-rises, and the USA (assuming this is it) also doesn't really do tall parking garages. and it very much looks like the photo was taken from outside.

[-] brisk@aussie.zone 63 points 1 week ago

Taken from the driver's seat of a new pickup truck?

[-] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 12 points 1 week ago

Drone in a parking lot, I'd say.

As a fat person, 300lb+ lbs, i think its fine to call us out and make fun of us. Mostly we either dont give a shit and will do what we want, or might just be on the verge of change and 1 more person calling us out could jumpdrive our selfrespct enough in order to make a difference.

[-] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I appreciate that. Personally, the photo kicks my sense of empathy into overdrive instead.

I don't see two targets of ridicule. I see two cases of metabolic syndrome, with type II and heart attacks waiting to destroy their bodies, and over 6000 calories of raw sugar in tow on wheels, because they're too weak to carry their snack around. And they likely got there from self-medicating with food for what's likely trauma, depression, and/or other mental illness. They need a rescue party.

[-] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 week ago

Just needs some 1/4" plastic tubing to make some extra long straws

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago

Holy shit this comment section is a train wreck.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

IN USA BIG GULPS YOU!!

[-] kadaverin0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 week ago

This is why I laugh when people try to paint Lemmy as the more nuanced and broad-minded alternative to Reddit.

I sincerely doubt any one of you needledick motherfuckers would spit shit like this to their faces.

[-] salty_chief@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Yeah, first 24hrs I was hopeful this social media platform was above Reddit. It felt like this one was more supportive of peoples right to expression. Now, I see it is just the same/similar to Reddit. Oh, well. At least I know what I am dealing with now.
