Maybe that specific tweet was fake (or bait), but I do remember it from back then. There was a whole slew of easily misinterpreted posts on all social media around the release of the cyberpunk game and then again around the release of the anime.

Breaking Bad had too much family drama and slow pacing for my taste
Imo, it being slow and very much deep diving into characters is what makes it phenomenal instead of just a shallow action flick.
It's also a rather litmus test for maturity imo.

I think knowing where it's going makes a big difference. Like, first time in going in blind Walt is a sympathetic for the first bit, and for most of the story is dealing with the unintended consequences of raising funds for his treatment. Knowing where it's going it's a lot easier to see him in a lot worse light earlier in the story.
Nah man, Walt makes some egregiously selfish and egotistical calls even in season 1. For an obvious one, he turns down his old friend's money, money they say is effectively Walt's, just so he can rub his own ego even more. Then he goes on to use them as an excuse for where the money is coming from.
He robs his own school of supplies, too. There are many, many many selfish piece of shit things Walt does. From the start.
He also starts off being a judgemental piece of shit to Jessie even while he's trying to use him to do the same shit he's judging Jessie for.
Walt is purely a piece of shit that kind of sort of starts to redeem himself after he already created the whole mess to begin with.
Well yeah, that might be a factor, also that on a a second watch you can start picking up on things better, because it's much clearer from the get go that while his very initial intention to not leave his family behind poor, it really quickly becomes about his ego.

Those who loved it, and those who haven't watched much or any of it.
My ex got me into it, and she's kind of.... Well, shes not brilliant. So I didn't take her recommendations too seriously most of the time (I really don't enjoy Teen Mom or 90 day fiance or 600lb life). But this? This show hooked me. It takes quite a few liberties with the sciency bits and lawyer bits, but it's fun even with a bit of knowledge cause it starts with something being "technically correct." It's well written more than anything.

Sometimes that's true. Not all times. But many shows have a weak season 1 but then get amazing. And you can't really skip it without losing context.
I finished up to season 4, wondering when it was supposed to get good. I know there's a lot of hype around it, but I guess it just wasn't for me.
You gave it a generous amount of your time. I'd say if you don't like it in the first few episodes it might not be for you. I was hooked almost immediately.
I made it like 3 episides of season 1 before I threw in the towel lol
I got to the bathtub scene, said "wow that's amazing television" and stopped watching. I get it, he sucks and he's going to get worse.

That was my second watch so not a huge deal to me, but damn she could not stand him.
I've never managed to watch the whole series. There's great bits but I get super uncomfortable with Walters bumbling, flagrant dishonesty with his wife and family. I get the same thing with a few different shows and I just don't enjoy it. To the point where I find myself just switching the TV off mid way through a scene and going to do something else without even really thinking about it.
If I had to describe the sensation it would be "extreme toe-curling cringe".

My personal anti-suggestion is always the office. Too much cringe. I'll watch compilations of Jim pranking Dwight on YouTube, but I can't watch the show as a whole because of Michael.

Idk man, as a science communicator, I watched it and thought it sucked. I know enough about any science field to explain to laypeople, but not enough to properly engage experts usually. I try, but my specialty is breadth, not depth.

The whole point of the show is that it is his pride and greed are ultimately what drive him to do worse and worse things no matter how much he tries to blame his actions on external circumstances. There are multiple instances where he does things that are completely unnecessary because at his core, Walter White is a bad person. He is not truly driven by desparation or by love of his family, but by his pride. He wants to earn his own money, and he enjoys being above the law and feels that he deserves all his money and power because he is smarter and superior to everyone. As he gets deeper and deeper into crime, it becomes clearer and clearer that his moral decay is entirely his own doing and not primarily driven by circumstances, even though Walter certainly tries to act that way. I can provide specific examples but I wanted to keep this post spoiler free.
