Thr problem is that there is supposed to be criminal prosecution for this felony so the courts won't entertain request for an injunction over it. Meanwhile the responsible authorities aren't willing to arrest and prosecute.

I fucking hate America.

A billionaire can hold a multi-million dollar lottery, where the only way to enter is to vote for who he wants; but you can and will be arrested for handing someone a bottle of water while they wait in line to vote.

[-] courageousstep@lemm.ee 70 points 2 weeks ago

Im so fucking pissed no one stopped this!!!

[-] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 54 points 2 weeks ago

Voting lines that can take hours too... it's so fucked

[-] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

Don't forget, last time he did this it wasn't given to some random person. They were hand picked to 'win'.

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

Only a billionaire can do that though. Ask Dinesh D’Souza how I know.

[-] spirinolas@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I'm not familiar with Wisconsin voting system. Isn't the vote secret?

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 119 points 2 weeks ago

Literal "Soros Bucks" in broad daylight.

Crickets.

It was always projection.

We have been in psychological warfare for a long time. A long con... The dots should be connecting for people but I think that American culture has been purposely dumbed down and that people just care about escaping real life.

It's like most Americans are a product and get bought and sold, used and written off. There's no integrity of self and their humanity. The issue is broad and a method used by all sides, although it's most evident in the right right now.

It's sad watching this collapse. It's sad understanding it's been a game, a war, within our nation and that the pride and nationalism was just a gimmick to use us.

There isn't anything to go back to because essentially what were told it was ...never was.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Then let's go forward to it.

So...

  • Musk made the offer.
  • it was established it was illegal.
  • he did it anyway.

Republicans paying for votes.

There, fixed your title.

... escapes prosecution due to the blossoming american oligarchy?

[-] Count042@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 week ago

Blossoming?

This isn't oligarchy. This is fascism. This is what oligarchy turns into when left unchecked.

[-] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 58 points 2 weeks ago

Musk’s attorneys argued in filings with the court that Musk was exercising his free speech rights with the giveaways and any attempt to restrict that would violate both the Wisconsin and U.S. constitutions.

Right, because money is speech, according to Citizens United. Utter horseshit since the day of the ruling.

[-] prole 16 points 1 week ago

Meanwhile, I just came from a thread about Musk calling for crackdowns on anti-Tesla protests because a woman pointed at a Cyber Truck.

[-] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 5 points 1 week ago

Maybe she should have thrown money at the Cyber Truck instead of pointing at it.

Legacy media and dem politicians need to stop pulling punches and get to the bottom of WHY Musk needs Wisconsin. I get that the AP is hyperneutral, but the reporting, political, and public response on this issue has been irresponsible and feckless. The outrage is so wholly insufficient. This needs Benghazi and Hunter Biden’s laptop energy.

Could it be because it is a critical swing state and they are gearing up for the mother of all power grabs in the next presidential election?

Grow some fucking balls and attack this properly goddamn before the GOP cements their fascist coup of America.

[-] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The leadership of the Democratic party chose to do nothing, thinking they can just let the pendulum swing back in the next election. Rather than actually do anything to help people, they're expecting us to just vote them in because of how insane the Republicans are, but once they're in, they won't actually do anything.

We need a populist party yesterday.

[-] Thrillhouse@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The point is: if they don’t figure out how to do something RIGHT NOW, there won’t be any other party. All parties that are not aligned with Trump will be disallowed. Russia, Turkey, Hungary, is the direction the US is headed.

The window is closing right now and if nothing is done the American people will no longer have a choice. Trump might insist there’s still democracy but it will be a sham like everything else he’s put his name on.

I’ve had so many conversations with Americans online where I’ve pointed out that the second amendment is a joke and Americans wouldn’t have the guts to stand up to a tyrannical government. Well….

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago

Sure, you can blame the Dems for letting us get to the brink like this. But they won’t be our salvation in this moment. Americans have to organize for a new populist party instead.

[-] Thrillhouse@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Oh yeah, I mean as an outside observer they’ve seemed pretty ineffective.

But I do wonder how much is exacerbated by, for example: foreign interference/propaganda, sub-par educational levels and engagement of the electorate, 24/7 News entertainment, citizens united, the absolute audacity of the boomer generation to benefit from very generous social policies and then turn around and screw the younger generations on the exact same benefits they themselves received.

The American default (and increasingly, the Western default) seems to be fuck you I got mine (until something bad happens to me).

Now, I’m not American - I just pay attention. My boomer parents in law will sit there and complain about the state of every service - paid or social - like banking, doctors etc. and I have to contain myself when I tell them that capitalism by nature degrades and enshittifies every good thing the middle class had and that Millennials really, truly, do not believe anything will ever be good again. They look at me like I have 5 heads. Truly not a clue.

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

Well as an American witnessing the decline from within, I’d say you are fairly perceptive for an outsider. You’ve identified some of the biggest obstacles we’re facing. The attitudes of the boomers, who simply will not relinquish their grip on power (US Congress is the oldest legislative body in the world), have been devastating for our future. This has surely been shaped by unfettered greed and unbridled avarice brought on by capitalism.

The main point I was making is that the Dems have truly revealed themselves to be controlled opposition. They campaigned so hard with scare tactics of “Trump bad” and “end of democracy.” And now their strategy is to do nothing?! It’s beyond pathetic - it is a betrayal. So many Americans thought Dems were fighting for them all these years, but the insidiousness of the neoliberal machine ensured the only ones to gain since the 1970s had been the ultra wealthy and corporations. The wealth disparity in our country is honestly startling to witness firsthand.

This is why we need a real populist party to rise up and actually fight for the people. I have full confidence that if this happens, the tides will turn within a very short timespan. We are perhaps witnessing the beginnings of such a phenomenon, with Bernie Sanders and AOC’s fight oligarchs tour, but I’m afraid they will simply default to trying to convert the democrats into a useful party instead of building a new one. That path will be mired in obstacles and betrayal, and will ultimately fail. It simply has to be a new party in order to succeed.

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

Completely agree, a new party is our only way out of this mess. The corrupt dems are not it.

[-] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 26 points 2 weeks ago

Someone should stop Musk. With like a piece of metal if needed.

[-] misteloct@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

If you shoot him with a wad of cash, it's legal. His actions in Wisconsin set a precedent that you can hurt people directly as long as you give them some money in return.

[-] demunted@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Or you know. Force him to only travel via his cyber truck. Fate will find a way from there.

If it could be proven one way or another I'd bet the recipients work for or are connected to his companies in some way. $1 million is peanuts to him but he didn't get to be a billionaire by being "generous".

[-] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

So when Dems do all this shit the GOP has been doing, will they say nothing?

Have you met the Dems? Doing even a tenth of this shit would be SO UNCOUTH.

I had a good time in Wisconsin the 2 times I’ve been there but if y’all buy this shit after Louisiana just rejected all the amendments the governor proposed as a solid “fuck you,” you don’t get anymore beer. And we will escalate based on cheeses and how important they are to recipes.

[-] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

The meanest concept in Louisiana culture is “We will not buy your ingredients because you failed.” I’m within walking distance of 4 places that cook swamp animals. Mostly with sherry. But that’s not important. The important thing is that if ~65% of Louisianans can vote antagonistically, Wisconsinites should be able to as well.

I won’t root for the Vikings but try me.

[-] riodoro1@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Americans still not protesting, why would they if mcdonalds is still open?

[-] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 24 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

There's been protests literally every day of trump's presidency, what country are you watching? Seriously, is your main source of news not reporting on them? Because if so you should probably think about switching.

[-] Jarix@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Do you remember France recently? Rioting in the streets all over?

That's what i think the mean and are expecting.

These are the fuckers that want to dictate to the rest of the world about freedom and democracy.

[-] Casteyes@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

For all the people blaming Dems for not doing anything... You do understand a large portion of them are rich as well right? The DNC serves corporations not the people. They are controlled opposition. The whole system is corrupt and that includes the DNC, they won't be saving us.

Bruh, this is the Good Place Committee IRL 🤣
