I have seen a lot of tesla vandalism online the last few days and I'm kind of on the fence about it.

I've seen several examples locally here in BC, Canada.

I think totally warranted at newly purchased teslas going forward. Also it serves as a deterrent for potential future buyers.

But vandalizing a car that is a few years old I think is lame. Those driversare already being punished enough by driving something around that's worth less than scrap.

the hypersuck swasticar is a death machine that should not be allowed on the road to begin with (and isn't in relatively sane countries). vandalism is getting off too easy imo. the appropriate response is to total the car but that's not practical. or maybe you can just spray some water on it and it explodes or something idk

Older Teslas- no, Cybertrucks - absolutely yes.

Everyone who bought a Cybertruck knew exactly the kind of person they were buying from and made that concious choice

[-] BigDanishGuy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 35 minutes ago

TBF There's a small portion of cybertruck owners that didn't know it when they bought it. We're talking about the initial pre-orderers, like Hoovies garage https://youtube.com/watch?v=mNXhq4dWClY

Granted Tyler's brand is making stupid decisions, like a Nikocado Avocado but with cars. That he later got the model S plaid must be on him, but at the time the cybertruck looked cool and Elon seemed like a real life Tony Stark. Heck, I wanted one. Good thing I didn't have the spending cash for a pre-order.

[-] Kalysta@lemm.ee 3 points 34 minutes ago

Absolutely moral. Convincing owners to not drive them may save a life as well

[-] TechAnon@lemm.ee 1 points 14 minutes ago

I'll just pose a question: What has being moral done for us lately?

[-] Iceman@lemmy.world 2 points 40 minutes ago

If you think you can stand up to fascism and perfectly respect property and act nice an moral all tge time you're bloody useless.

It's not nice, but it will hurt Musks so it's good thing. I won't shed a tear for any one with Tesla money either.

[-] Reygle@lemmy.world 1 points 23 minutes ago

I'd say no, it's not moral, but at the same time, I wouldn't be upset to see it happening more often. Get photos.

[-] blueeggsandyam@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

This is stupid. If you are going to vandalize a car for ideological reasons at least pick one you know what the person is thinking. Not every Tesla driver agrees with Musk. Most actually do not. There are plenty of jacked up MAGA trucks with hate stickers that can be vandalized if you insist on vandalizing a vehicle.

IOS 18.3 has starlink connectivity so don’t forget to destroy all the iphones you see. Clearly all those iphone users support Musk.

[-] hsakaa@lemm.ee 8 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

If you want to get punched in the face or face legal consequences, sure go ahead!

As far as morality is concerned, no it's not moral to vandalise the private property of a person who bought it through his hard earned money because you don't like some billionaire.

[-] vxx@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

I side with you but disagree with "hard earned". We don't know that.

[-] FangedWyvern42@lemmy.world 27 points 2 hours ago

Personally, no. Most people probably brought their cars before Musk went totally nuts, or they simply didn’t know. Plus, not everyone can just get rid of their car because of the CEO of the company that made it.

[-] lukstru@lemmy.world 28 points 2 hours ago

The cybertruck was a douchebag car from the beginning

[-] yonder@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 hour ago

But they why do we stop at vandalizing only the Cybertruck? There are several other vehicles that I would consider to be "douchebag vehicles".

  • Cars that are modified to be as loud as possible. These cars can be going 20km/h and sound like the engine is in a race.
  • Lifted pickup trucks.
  • Pickup trucks that have only their bed used once.
  • Any vehicle blocking a bus stop, bike lane or bus lane.
[-] itslilith 5 points 1 hour ago

You raise good points. They deserve it too

[-] Teppichbrand@feddit.org 2 points 1 hour ago

But does that allow you to vandalize it? What will it accomplish?

[-] Poem_for_your_sprog@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

He's always been insane but his PR team seemed to keep it kinda quiet.

[-] MithranArkanere@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

There was not a second in history in which Musk wasn't nuts.
Remember those crap flamethrowers?
Didn't even compress the fuel . They were shit. Can't even deal with a nest of human-eating ants with that crap.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 9 points 1 hour ago

TBH, you're only really hurting the owner, and you don't know their situation necessarily unless you're in close contact with them all the time.

Plus Teslas have security cameras.

It's generally a bad idea.

[-] bananaa@lemmy.world 2 points 55 minutes ago

You’re hurting both the owner and Tesla. Car buyers will avoid their products if they have a reputation for being vandalized.

Is it a good idea? I don’t know. Maybe targeting the dealerships is a better use of efforts.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

As in spray paint? My opinion, no.

Slapping a swastika decal on it that is technically removable without damage. Yes.

[-] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 22 points 3 hours ago
[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 10 points 2 hours ago

Oh look, $400 million of waste and corruption, DOGE should get right on that..

[-] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 3 points 2 hours ago

An armored tesla is an oxymoron.

[-] hardcoreufo@lemmy.world 21 points 3 hours ago

That's just writing in dirt. A prank as old as cars. Totally fine.

If you want to go further that's up to you.

[-] sem 7 points 3 hours ago

I agree with the first part of your statement but I don't think damaging other people's property is justified in this case...

I understand people wanting to do anything that can stop the attack on our government and rule of law, but not seeing how destroying cyber trucks is a tactical move.

[-] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

I don't think that there is a tactical thought to people wanting to vandalize Teslas. I think that there is a true sense of helplessness on not being able to do anything to stop these fuckers. So in in the place of something more substantial the anger and frustration is being taken out on something associated with musk

Is it right? Probably not. Is it understandable, yes

[-] kat_angstrom@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

Only Cybertrucks. Someone who got a second-hand car four years ago didn't buy-in to the current trend of fascism. But the cybertruck is new enough that if you bought it, you know what's going on

[-] Crampi@sh.itjust.works 46 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

ITT: americans who are way too much into private property

Also you put way too much money in your cars, wtf ????!!!

[-] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Many of us drive a lot. Half-decent cars that don't need regular repairs are going to run at least 30k, sometimes more. I really don't understand the 70k trucks, but I may just not have the perspective. I don't know what you consider too much money on a car, but I have two kids and need something safe for local travel and visiting family hundreds of miles away.

Edit: If there was better public transportation, I would take advantage of it. We were supposed to have high speed travel in Florida--the people voted for it. The Republicans stalled it because there wasn't a funding portion to the law and refused to fund it.

[-] MilitantAtheist@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Would you be ok with me pissing on everything you own? Sounds like the time and money you spent on stuff is of no consequence to you.

[-] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 3 hours ago

if you like what it's doing to the Tesla brand, then maybe it's justified. you need to make that decision for yourself. I think public shame goes a long way to fixing social problems

[-] tehWrapper@lemmy.world 23 points 3 hours ago

You never know what another person is really going through in life, so don't be a dick to a stranger..

[-] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 15 points 3 hours ago

Feh! They made their choice.

[-] stephen01king@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 hours ago

What choice did you assume they made?

[-] yessikg 10 points 2 hours ago

They bought a Swasticar

Its already pre-vandalized from the factory with that awful design. No need to kick a car when its down.

But no, doing damage to other people's property is not okay

[-] menemen@lemmy.world 9 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

My father was always going on about how stupid it is to buy a car designed by computer scientists and electrical engineers. He himself is an electrical engineer who has a PhD in computer science. He might have been on to something.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 50 minutes ago

If you guys put us mechanical engineers in charge, we'll give you your physical buttons back.

[-] assassinatedbyCIA@lemmy.world 7 points 3 hours ago

I will not lose sleep over a vandalised cybertruck
