Whatever you want it to mean!

[-] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 40 points 1 month ago

No one knows. I honestly can't believe the original post isn't intended to point out the absurdity of these anti-DEI assholes.

The "fixed" version also looks transmasc, not that that's a bad thing, just ironic if the post wasn't intended to be a caricature.

[-] hungryphrog 58 points 1 month ago

I'm 95% sure it's satire, like it's making fun of those guys that edit pictures of female characters because they're upset when their video game has women who look like actual people.

[-] deus@lemmy.world 41 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah, I think it's satire, likely referencing that infamous post where someone "fixed" Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn:

[-] sgbrain7@lemm.ee 21 points 1 month ago

listerine commercial looking mf lmao

I mean, I don't find the one on the left attractive or anything (she's not unattractive or ugly either), but she also doesn't have to be. She looks like a person and I can focus on what the game is trying to tell or show me. Every female character doesn't have to be a blow-up doll or something.

Also, the one on the right looks bad. That face doesn't fit at all. People are weird.

[-] hungryphrog 11 points 1 month ago

Exactly. But alas, the incel brain can't comprehend that women, be they fictional or real, are people and not sex objects.

Seriously. I don't mind attractive characters, but they're not essential. Also, if you want attractive or sexual, go find some porn and sort yourself out. Or some adult game if it has to be a game.

[-] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 7 points 1 month ago

I do think the one on the left looks a bit ugly, or maybe “below average” is a better way to phrase it; but why would that be a problem?

Like, your main character can look kinda meh and that OK she doesn't need to be good-looking.

Pretty much exactly my opinion as well.

[-] festnt@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago

yes it is intended to point out the absurdity of anti-DEI, though its mostly intended to point out the absurdity of people thinking its woke to have real-looking people

also what does it mean to look transmasc

[-] Unknown_0671 7 points 1 month ago

what does 'looks transmasc' even mean

[-] festnt@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

every attractive man that looks young is trans and nobody has any proof that they're not

[-] Borger 3 points 1 month ago

The “fixed” version also looks transmasc

?????? Explain

If I understand correctly, DEI is a dog whistle for N-word.

[-] sem 2 points 1 month ago

DEI contains multitudes.

[-] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

In this context, I believe it means ‘non-white.’

[-] cdf12345@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago

Oh you sweet sweet summer child!

[-] yessikg 3 points 1 month ago

The Jimquisition did a video about that ridiculous mess

[-] magnetosphere@fedia.io 66 points 1 month ago

“Anyone who doesn’t look like someone I’d want to fuck is ‘woke’. That’s how that word is used, right?”

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 22 points 1 month ago

and "anyone who doesn't care about my issues but issues of some minority is woke"

[-] negativenull@lemmy.world 62 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)
[-] hungryphrog 7 points 1 month ago
[-] festnt@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

and dont forget about being more less woke :3

[-] gerryflap@feddit.nl 44 points 1 month ago

Why do so many people here in the comments take this seriously? This is clearly satire. Joel is already good looking and the people who unironically say shit like this usually say this kind of shit about female or androgynous characters. Imo Joel also looks way better than the "non-woke" version of Joel they created.

[-] festnt@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

did you know most people find people close to their own age more attractive?

anyhow i agree that that's clearly satire

[-] weeeeum@lemmy.world 41 points 1 month ago

Fuck I can't tell what is satire anymore

[-] MBM@lemmings.world 25 points 1 month ago

It's satire, but the ones with female characters aren't

[-] Flumpkin@slrpnk.net 18 points 1 month ago

I mean it's obviously satire... right?

[-] hungryphrog 1 points 1 month ago

Many such cases.

Woke culture is trying to cancel handsome squidward. Don’t let them.

[-] hesusingthespiritbomb@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Do that same thing to Abby's character and you'll get her live action actress.

[-] Gormadt 9 points 1 month ago

The one on the left isn't attractive ‽

[-] Theonetheycall1845@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

It's a joke. They're taking a dig at middle aged men who talk about dei in games.

That was my genuine first reaction as well. That's a handsome older man. I could only hope to age half as well as that guy.

Maybe it's my 90s coming out but the guy on the left looks like a handsome man, and the guy on the right looks a lot more effeminate to me. If he put on a nice set of clothes people would have called him metro back then.

[-] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Not with that DEI chin of his.

[-] Okokimup@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

That's not Pedro.

[-] Letstakealook@lemm.ee 4 points 1 month ago
[-] Arcka@midwest.social 2 points 1 month ago

I was also thinking this was close:

[-] Letstakealook@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

I'd say that is even more accurate! Wow!

[-] wander1236@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

That's just Matt Bomer

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
