It wasn't odd, it was very normal. For a Nazi.

CNN be like:

Outrage? His cult is "praise be", overjoyed.

Jesus Christ, Liberal Media, just call a spade a spade. "Odd-looking?"That was the angriest Seig Heil since 1945 wtf

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 hours ago

There is no mainstream liberal media. It doesn’t exist and never did, only Republican propaganda.

[-] MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Are you going to cover the costs of the libel suits filed by Musk? If you aren't maybe understand what they are doing when they call it odd and mention the historical significance.

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 160 points 1 day ago

They're sanewashing a literal nazi salute.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 7 points 10 hours ago

That's what happened during Nazi Germany too

[-] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 12 points 23 hours ago

We now know that racism is a very bad thing. Unfortunately, realpolitik ensures that the main consequence of this is that it is absolutely unacceptable to accuse anyone of racism unless they’re already serving several consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole or otherwise have no clout. Therefore, this is “odd-looking” or perhaps “awkward”. Press them and they’ll scramble for explanations to do with obscure medical syndromes or the esoteric corners of history (could Musk be obsessed with ancient Rome like Zuck is?). It won’t even get to “racially charged”, as that’s for peons who let a slur slip.

[-] MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

The libel suits would come very fast for anyone claiming someone is a Naxi without evidence of support for Nazism.

[-] Subtracty@lemmy.world 62 points 23 hours ago

Batya Ungar-Sargon insisted. “This is a man with Aspergers exuberantly throwing his heart to the crowd. We don’t need to invent outrage.”

This is a man who has been in the public eye for decades. He has given speeches to crowds before. At no point has he spontaneously seig heiled as a means of expressing emotions before. He knew exactly what he was doing. He felt secure surrounded by this crowd and took the opportunity to make a statement.... and they fucking cheered.

It makes me want to throw up. I am exhausted by these articles. It reminds me of the narcissits prayer. -That didn't happen. -And if it did, it wasn't that bad. -And if it was, that's not a big deal. -And if it is, that's not my fault. -And if it was, I didn't mean it. -And if I did, you deserved it. They give him an inch and he takes a mile.

[-] MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

No news organization will call it a nazi or fascist salute as they will get sued for doing so. Instead they will call it odd and mention historical significance and let the reader put two and two together.

[-] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 94 points 1 day ago

IT'S A FUCKING NAZI SALUTE! STOP PANDERING TO THE FOURTH REICH!

[-] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 97 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The headline currently seems to be:

Elon Musk accused of giving ‘Nazi salute’ at Trump inauguration celebration

Which, I mean, isn't really much better, as you can clearly see he is indeed giving a nazi salute.

[-] Catoblepas 40 points 23 hours ago

‘People with functioning vision have reported seeing Musk give a Nazi salute. As the news, we’ve decided to not investigate this any further.’

[-] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 5 points 23 hours ago

Just out of curiosity, what do you expect them to investigate? We have the video of what happened. We know (more or less) what his response is going to be. And any deeper story of his previous Nazi-like actions have already been published.

[-] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 15 points 23 hours ago

Not them, but I expect them to do the most cursory of investigation: looking with their eyes and saying what happened unambiguously, and without weaseling about it:

"Elon musk gives Nazi salute at Trump's inauguration."

is what the headline should be, because that's what happened.

Instead they're playing this "we're not saying he gave a Nazi salute, but others have said he did" bullshit games.

[-] Catoblepas 9 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

I was mocking the company that published the article for not titling the headline to reflect what it is (a Nazi salute), I agree it’s not a big mystery what he did or why.

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 38 points 23 hours ago

There is nothing "odd looking". Everyone who has ever seen a documentation about Nazi Germany should be able to identify the gesture.

Remember the times when real Americans shot at Nazis instead of voting for them?

[-] silence7@slrpnk.net 57 points 1 day ago

That headline is why I prefer actual liberal media

[-] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 47 points 1 day ago

Nazi punks fuck off

[-] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago

What the fuck is "odd-looking" about a Nazi salute?

[-] jonne@infosec.pub 19 points 1 day ago

He did it like he's never been in control of a human body before.

[-] dukeofdummies@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

Oh god don't tell me it's another case of Elon getting carried by a hire to level him up.

[-] Theoriginalthon@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

It's like a cross between a nazi salute and a dab, I shall call it the nazi-musk salute or the elofacist salute

[-] rayyy@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Give the guy some time. He probably hasn't done this in front of a crowd this big before and was a bit timid. Practice, practice, practice.

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 8 points 19 hours ago

Capitalism enters end stage

[-] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 23 points 1 day ago

The white dude from apartheid South Africa whose father owned an emerald mine there is a Nazi? So surprising.

[-] LostWon@lemmy.ca 8 points 23 hours ago

*and whose maternal grandparents were nazis

[-] ATDA@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Odd looking Nazi salute, yeah but it's Elon he always looks like the skin wearing badguy from MiB

“Odd looking salute” for fucks sake to be more blatant than that you’d have to start talking enthusiastically about ovens

[-] LostWon@lemmy.ca 6 points 22 hours ago

If it's true he was on the outs with the online neo-nazi crowd because of the H1B visas thing, this might have been a way he was trying to get back in their good graces.

[-] sxan@midwest.social 8 points 1 day ago

"I stay on X because it's a safe space!"

[-] xenomor@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

America has a long storied tradition of killing Nazis. It’s like a national pastime. It permeates our film and literature. We have been celebrated the world over for decades because of our talent with killing Nazis. We have monuments about this. Just sayin’.

[-] flicker@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 22 hours ago

I know it isn't going to happen, but can we see if Harrison Ford is busy? I can think of nothing I'd enjoy more right now than Indy doing what he does best.

Actually, I think I'll enjoy it more because he's old. These nazis are weak.

[-] hOrni@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

Very odd looking indeed. Whatever could he have meant by it?

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Odd-looking salute.
