As a none USian …solidarity with LGBTQ+/queer communities, I can’t imagine how they feel and that’s the only statement that matters at the minute.

Absolutely terrified and abandoned

[-] hovercat 9 points 1 week ago

I live in an area that's listed as one of the top 10 friendliest places to be trans, and I'm still absolutely fucking terrified. The election was basically the point of reckoning for me recognizing I was trans, solely due to the sheer sense of dread I felt towards the potential hatred and violence I might be facing, without explicitly recognizing why I was feeling that way until I put 2 and 2 together.

When Trump starts taking guns, they'll be the first people he goes after, though.

[-] SouthEndSunset@lemm.ee 42 points 1 week ago

Be interesting to see how that plays out cause the pro gun community says that won’t happen. I have no doubt it will happen though.

It will be conveniently ignored like Reagan's campaign against the black panthers,

[-] hovercat 4 points 1 week ago

Or the bump stock bans, or supporting red flag laws saying "Take the guns first, due process second".

The Melon Labia, Y'all Qaida Fudds never actually gave a fuck about gun rights at any point. The Trump admin was far harsher on gun rights than the Obama administration, despite the incessant wailing that gun owners were going to be rounded up any second and put into camps, and yet never said jack shit about it. They're all cowards who just want to kowtow to Cheeto Mussolini, and have never for a moment cared about the rights of anyone.

There are groups whos whole MO is advocacy for exactly these types of gun owners, places like the SRA if you've ever heard of them. I won't claim they're massive, but they organize. Since trans folk suffer some of the highest rates of 'random' violence, and Trans POCs have the absolute highest rate of 'random' violence against them, they focus big on those group in addition to any group made to feel othered by 'traditional' gun culture.

I won’t lie, I don’t like your gun policies, but especially in this case, they’re absolutely necessary. It’s also good these groups exist. Must be absolutely terrifying for these groups at the minute. As a Brit I can’t understand it. I’ll have to look them up.

It's from fascism 101. They don't want the population to be armed for obvious reasons.

[-] futatorius@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago

When they disarmed the population, they didn't disarm the fascist street gangs. Remember that part too.

[-] futatorius@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago

We should be giving guns to undocumented people too.

America, you're not well, are you?

[-] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 7 points 1 week ago

What gave it away?

[-] ATDA@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Half of this country wanted a violent revolution. Seems the other half is happy to give it to them.

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

What gave you that impression?

[-] Shardikprime@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

So.... The maga crowd was right all this time? No way

Well no, the MAGA crowd wants to disarm everyone that smokes weed, is a "pedo" (i.e., just a normal trans person), or is otherwise different from them in any way, so basically the opposite of MAGA.
